Download or read book Finite Element Solution of Boundary Value Problems written by O. Axelsson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Solution of Boundary Value Problems: Theory and Computation provides an introduction to both the theoretical and computational aspects of the finite element method for solving boundary value problems for partial differential equations. This book is composed of seven chapters and begins with surveys of the two kinds of preconditioning techniques, one based on the symmetric successive overrelaxation iterative method for solving a system of equations and a form of incomplete factorization. The subsequent chapters deal with the concepts from functional analysis of boundary value problems. These topics are followed by discussions of the Ritz method, which minimizes the quadratic functional associated with a given boundary value problem over some finite-dimensional subspace of the original space of functions. Other chapters are devoted to direct methods, including Gaussian elimination and related methods, for solving a system of linear algebraic equations. The final chapter continues the analysis of preconditioned conjugate gradient methods, concentrating on applications to finite element problems. This chapter also looks into the techniques for reducing rounding errors in the iterative solution of finite element equations. This book will be of value to advanced undergraduates and graduates in the areas of numerical analysis, mathematics, and computer science, as well as for theoretically inclined workers in engineering and the physical sciences.

Book Synopsis Proceedings of the 15th International Meshing Roundtable by : Philippe P. Pebay
Download or read book Proceedings of the 15th International Meshing Roundtable written by Philippe P. Pebay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-20 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were selected for presentation at the 15th International Meshing Roundtable, held September 17–20, 2006 in Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A.. The conference was started by Sandia National Laboratories in 1992 as a small meeting of organizations striving to establish a common focus for research and development in the field of mesh generation. Now after 15 consecutive years, the International Meshing Roundtable has become recognized as an international focal point annually attended by researchers and developers from dozens of countries around the world. The 15th International Meshing Roundtable consists of technical presentations from contributed papers, keynote and invited talks, short course presentations, and a poster session and competition. The Program Committee would like to express its appreciation to all who participate to make the IMR a successful and enriching experience. The papers in these proceedings were selected from among 42 submissions by the Program Committee. Based on input from peer reviews, the committee selected these papers for their perceived quality, originality, and appropriateness to the theme of the International Meshing Roundtable. The Program Committee would like to thank all who submitted papers. We would also like to thank the colleagues who provided reviews of the submitted papers. The names of the reviewers are acknowledged in the following pages. As Program Chair, I would like to extend special thanks to the Program Committee and to the Conference Coordinators for their time and effort to make the 15th IMR another outstanding conference.
Book Synopsis Solid Modeling by Computers by : Mary S. Pickett
Download or read book Solid Modeling by Computers written by Mary S. Pickett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers presented at the international research sympo sium "Solid Modeling by Computers: From Theory to Applications," held at the General Motors Research Laboratories on September 25-27, 1983. This was the 28th syposium in aseries which the Research Laboratories began sponsor ing in 1957. Each symposium has focused on a topic that is both under active study at the Research Laboratories and is also of interest to the larger technical community. Solid modeling is still a very young research area, young even when com pared with other computer-related research fields. Ten years ago, few people recognized the importance of being able to create complete and unambiguous computer models of mechanical parts. Today there is wide recognition that computer representations of solids are aprerequisite for the automation of many engineering analyses and manufacturing applications. In September 1983, the time was ripe for a symposium on this subject. Re search had already demonstrated the efficacy of solid modeling as a tool in computer automated design and manufacturing, and there were significant re suIts wh ich could be presented at the symposium. Yet the field was still young enough that we could bring together theorists in solid modeling and practition ers applying solid modeling to other research areas in a group sm all enough to allow a stimulating exchange of ideas.
Book Synopsis Precursors of Isogeometric Analysis by : Christopher G. Provatidis
Download or read book Precursors of Isogeometric Analysis written by Christopher G. Provatidis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained book addresses the three most popular computational methods in CAE (finite elements, boundary elements, collocation methods) in a unified way, bridging the gap between CAD and CAE. It includes applications to a broad spectrum of engineering (benchmark) application problems, such as elasto-statics/dynamics and potential problems (thermal, acoustics, electrostatics). It also provides a large number of test cases, with full documentation of original sources, making it a valuable resource for any student or researcher in FEA-related areas. The book, which assumes readers have a basic knowledge of FEA, can be used as additional reading for engineering courses as well as for other interdepartmental MSc courses.
Book Synopsis Modelling of Metal Forming Processes by : J.L. Chenot
Download or read book Modelling of Metal Forming Processes written by J.L. Chenot and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physical modelling of metal forming processes has been widely used both in University and in Industry for many years. Relatively simple numerical models, such as the Slab Method and the Upper Bound Method, were first used and many such models are implemented in the industry for practical design or regulation of forming processes. These are also under investigation in the University, mainly for treat models ments which require low cost calculations or very fast answers for on-line integration. More recently, sophisticated numerical methods have been used for the simulation of metal flow during forming operations. Since the early works in 1973 and 1974, mainly in U. K. and U. S. A. , the applications of the finite element method to metal processing have been developed in many laboratories all over the world. Now the numerical approach seems to be widely re cognized as a powerful tool for comprehension oriented studies, for predic ting the main technological parameters, and for the design and the optlmi zation of new forming sequences. There is also a very recent trend for the introduction of physical laws in the thermo-mechanical models, in order to predict the local evolution of internal variable representing the micro structure of the metal. To day more and more practicians of the Industry are asking for compu ter models for design of their forming processes.
