Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gift of a Child is an easy-to-read book that gives clear and non-technical information about childlessness caused by male infertility and how this childlessness can be resolved through the use of donor insemination (DI). The book is written in a question-and-answer form and covers the issues raised by those seeking or undergoing DI treatment. It draws on the experience of couples whose own children were conceived by donor insemination and makes the knowledge gained by their experiences available to other childless couples. The questions answered include: What is DI? How common is DI treatment? How successful is DI? How much does DI cost? What happens at the time of treatment? Who is responsible if the baby is handicapped at birth? Does keeping DI hidden cause any problems? How do family and friends react when told about DI? What rights does the child have concerning knowledge of DI? Will the same donor be used for a second baby? Does the donor have any legal rights concerning the child? How many times is a donor used? What records are kept of treatment?

Book excerpt: The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians covers everything you need to make the thrilling and challenging journey to motherhood: from choosing a donor to tracking fertility to signing the right papers on the dotted lines. Rachel Pepper's lively, easy-to-read guide is the first place to go for up-to-date information and sage advice on everything from sex in the sixth month to negotiating family roles. Why a second edition? When the acclaimed first edition appeared, the author's daughter was only a few months old. This new edition takes into account the parenting know-how Pepper has developed over the intervening six years, as well as the evolving legal status of lesbian parents, and the increasing importance of the Internet for information on fertility, sperm banks, and donors. The resource section is greatly expanded, as are the sections on each trimester of pregnancy, on childbirth, and on life with a newborn. And Pepper provides more insight into preconception planning for both single lesbians and couples. An indispensable resource, The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians is now bigger and better.

Book excerpt: Helping the Stork The sourcebook for all the information parents-to-be need to know about the choices and challenges of donor insemination Each year donor insemination (DI) offers a pathway to parenthood for the hundreds of thousands who turn to family-building alternatives. Although DI is considered as often as adoption, couples facing male infertility, as well as single women and lesbian couples, have had few places to turn for information about this method, which has been shrouded in secrecy. In Helping the Stork, parents-to-be, as well as friends and family, doctors, and counselors, can explore the choices and challenges raised by this alternative to overcoming childlessness. This comprehensive handbook moves through each step of the process: reaching a solid decision about whether donor insemination is the best choice for a family's future; handling the difficult issue of privacy; selecting a donor and getting started; and learning to thrive as a family meeting DI's added challenges. Full of wisdom from medical and mental health experts, Helping the Stork is also enriched with stories from many families who share their insights and experiences. This book is a reassuring, supportive, and helpful guide that no one considering or going through the process of donor insemination should be without. Visit us online at http://www.mcp.com/mgr

This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will guide you in choosing a sperm donor based on Mendelian Inheritance. It will give you the chance to get the best start for your new family. From reading this book you will understand why it is not enough just to know who your sperm donor is, but also his ancestry as far back as his great grandparents, not just in health, but in intelligence, morals and looks. Ywill understand that most clinics, the NHS, and 'private social network' donors are committing a grave error. AUTHORS: C.W. SALEEBY P. POPENOE M.G.V. TYSON Sperm Donation & Mendelian Inheritance It is important when starting a family under the circumstances relating to a sperm donor to consider Mendelian inheritance . As by using a sperm donor, one does not have to give any share to feeling and is at liberty to only give the entire share to thought. One should ask questions as: What looks will my child inherit from the sperm donor? What base intelligence will my child inherit from the sperm donor? What strength, physical and mental will my child inherit from the sperm donor? Will my child inherit a long youthful life from the sperm donor? Will my child inherit blonde hair and blue eyes from the sperm donor? Is that what I want? It is the duty of anyone seeking to start a family via sperm donation to determine the Mendelian fitness of the donor and to estimate the prospect of the future child's life. To ask whether nature in general contributes more to a man than nurture is futile; but it is not at all futile to ask whether the differences in a given human trait are more affected by differences in nature than by differences in nurture. It is easy to see that a verdict may be sometimes given to one side, sometimes to the other. Albinism in animals, for instance, is a trait which is known to be inherited, and which is very slightly affected by differences of climate, food supply, etc. The limited effect of nurture in changing nature is in some fields a matter of common observation. The man who works in the gymnasium knows that exercise increases the strength of a given group of muscles for a while, but not indefinitely. There comes a time when the limit of a man's hereditary potentiality is reached, and no amount of exercise will add another milli-meter to the circumference of his arm. Similarly the handball or tennis player someday reaches his highest point, as do runners or race horses. A parallel case is found in the students who take a college examination. Half a dozen of them may have devoted the same amount of time to it--may have crammed to the limit--but they will still receive widely different marks. These commonplace cases show that nurture has seemingly some power to mold the individual, by giving his inborn possibilities a chance to express themselves, but that nature says the first and last word. Francis Galton hit on an ingenious and more convincing illustration by studying the history of twins.

Book excerpt: How a journey of self-discovery unearthed the scandalous evolution of artificial insemination By his forties, Peter J. Boni was an accomplished CEO, with a specialty in navigating high-tech companies out of hot water. Just before his fiftieth birthday, Peter’s seventy-five-year-old mother unveiled a bombshell: His deceased father was not biological. Peter was conceived in 1945 via an anonymous sperm donor. The emotional upheaval upon learning that he was “misattributed” rekindled traumas long past and fueled his relentless research to find his genealogy. Over two decades, he gained an encyclopedic knowledge of the scientific, legal, and sociological history of reproductive technology as well as its practices, advances, and consequences. Through twenty-first century DNA analysis, Peter finally quenched his thirst for his origin. In Uprooted, Peter J. Boni intimately shares his personal odyssey and acquired expertise to spotlight the free market methods of gamete distribution that conceives dozens, sometimes hundreds, of unknowing half-siblings from a single donor. This thought-provoking book reveals the inner workings—and secrets—of the multibillion-dollar fertility industry, resulting in a richly detailed account of an ethical aspect of reproductive science that, until now, has not been so thoroughly explored.
