Book excerpt: With a clear and fast-moving style, the Sixth Edition maintains its status as the foremost book on media relations in the corporate, nonprofit and government sectors. The authors retained the best and enduring aspects of media relations in the previous edition while skillfully integrating all current trends, such as the increased reliance on technology, complex legal rulings and concerns about credibility that have had an impact on how professionals work with the media. On Deadline is must-read for prospective and current media relations professionals dedicated to maximizing their organization’s results. As one reviewer remarked, On Deadline is “like having a professional mentor and media consultant on speed dial.” It presents all the tools necessary to plan and implement a successful media relations program, from relationships with reporters, crisis management and global media relations to spokesperson training, ethical and legal issues, news conferences and special events. New case studies illustrate the multiple roles of media relations professional as planner, crisis manager, communicator, counselor and strategist in a world that encounters ubiquitous messages dispersed at the speed of light.

Book Synopsis Just Schools (1979) by : Frank Adams
Download or read book Just Schools (1979) written by Frank Adams and published by The Institute for Southern Studies. This book was released on with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before it was over, they fired him from the little schoolhouse at which he had taught devotedly for ten years. And they fired his wife and two of his sisters and a niece. And they threatened him with bodily harm. And they sued him on trumped-up charges and convicted him in a kangaroo court and left him with a judgment that denied him credit from any bank. And they burned his house to the ground while the fire department stood around watching the flames consume the night. And they stoned the church at which he pastored. And fired shotguns at him out of the dark. But he was not Job, and so he fired back and called the police, who did not come and kept not coming. Then he fled, driving north at eighty-five miles an hour over country roads, until he was across the state line. Soon after, they burned his church to the ground and charged him, for having shot back that night, with felonious assault with a deadly weapon, and so he became an official fugitive from justice. In time, the governor of his state announced they would not pursue this minister who had caused all the trouble, and said of him: Good riddance.
Book Synopsis Protestant-Catholic Relations in America by : Lerond Curry
Download or read book Protestant-Catholic Relations in America written by Lerond Curry and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first general survey of relations between Protestants and Catholics in America during the past half century will be welcomed not only by social historians but by clergymen and laymen interested in the development of constructive interfaith relations. Lerond Curry has traced the major trends in this fifty-year period and analyzed the underlying factors that influenced them. Much of his account is based on correspondence and personal interviews with people who took part in the events and movements he describes. The rapid growth of Catholic population just before World War I, along with increasing urbanization and tensions related to the war itself, produced a period of intense religious conflict often expressed in violence. After the campaign of 1928, religious leaders made earnest efforts to ameliorate these conflicts, but with the appointment of a United States representative to the Vatican in 1939, hostilities again arose. Nevertheless, Curry finds that in the middle fifties more mature interfaith relationships began to appear, and after Vatican Council II, Protestant-Catholic dialogue developed a new depth.

Book Synopsis Americans in Occupied Belgium, 1914-1918 by : Ed Klekowski
Download or read book Americans in Occupied Belgium, 1914-1918 written by Ed Klekowski and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Belgium in the First World War--the first country invaded, the longest occupied, and when the war finally ended, the first forgotten. In 1914, Belgium was home to a large American colony which included representatives of American companies, artists, writers and diplomats with the American Legation. After the invasion, American journalists and adventurers flocked there to follow the action; military restrictions on travel were less stringent than in England or France. As the most industrialized country in Europe, Belgium depended upon trade and food imports to support its economy. The war isolated Belgium and wholesale starvation was imminent by the fall of 1914. Herbert Hoover and his Commission for Relief in Belgium raised funds to purchase and import food to sustain Belgium and, eventually, Occupied France as well. Idealistic American volunteers (including some Rhodes scholars) supervised food distribution in the occupation zone. Along the Western Front in Belgium, hundreds of Americans served (illegally) in the British and Canadian armies. This book tells the story of the German invasion, occupation and retreat from the perspective of Americans who were there.

Download or read book Paul Robeson written by Joseph Dorinson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-11-16 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Robeson was born April 9, 1898, in Princeton, New Jersey, the son of an escaped slave. He rose to unparalleled heights as an athlete, actor, singer, and activist, and was arguably the most prominent African American from the 1920s through the 1950s. This work is a compilation of 18 essays written by scholars and activists that were presented at a one-day conference held at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus on February 28, 1998, to honor Robeson's life and legacy. The essays discuss his significance as a singer, his political activism, his efforts to achieve solidarity between African Americans and Jews, the important role played by his wife, Eslanda Goode Robeson, in his struggles, his founding of the Freedom newspaper during the Korean War, his contemporary relevance, and the way conservative Americans turned against him, refused to discuss him in the press, and tried to silence his voice.
