Download or read book The Architect written by James Moore and published by Crown. This book was released on 2006-09-05 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: President George W. Bush dubbed Karl Rove “The Architect” for his skill in creating an unprecedented campaign and fund-raising machine. But Rove’s ambitions have always been far more sweeping—to build a right-wing dynasty that can dominate American politics for decades. Rove’s master plan imagines a political system so controlled by Republicans that it is resisted only by symbolic opposition. In The Architect, James Moore and Wayne Slater, the bestselling authors of Bush’s Brain, return with an even more penetrating examination of Rove, his sweeping agenda, and the price he may have to pay for his audacity. Drawing on their decades-long study of Rove, they provide a rarely seen view of the politics of absolute power in Washington—how it is acquired, expanded, and turned to startling ends. Specifically, they unveil how Rove: • Used lobbyist Jack Abramoff as a cat’s-paw to manage unruly legislators • Energetically led the antigay marriage movement while protecting a family secret that made his stance bizarrely cynical • Turned Christian churches into a gigantic vote delivery system, despite privately admitting to being a nonbeliever • Repeatedly leaked information to harm political opponents, making him the man investigators most wanted to talk to when they began probing the Plame affair • Was intimately involved in an international disinformation scheme to lead America to war The Architect is an eye-opening and frequently shocking report on the maneuverings of a brilliant but morally ambiguous political strategist, and the first-ever in-depth look at a political operative striving to absolutely control the future—even if he risks losing everything. Book Synopsis Justice Delayed by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee
Download or read book Justice Delayed written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008-12-15 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the Committee's views on the Ombudsman's report on the prudential regulation of Equitable Life throughout the 1990's until it was forced to close to new business in December 2000. Noting aswell that, now eight years later, the situation remains unresolved. The Committee feels that the Government should, without further delay, accept the Ombudsman's findings of maladministration on the part of the former Department of Trade and Industry, the Government Actuary's Department, and the Financial Services Authority. They support the Ombusman's recommendation for a full and unreserved apology from those public bodies concerned. There are valid arguments to be had about the means of providing redress, but there is concern that the Government may choose to act as judge on its own behalf by refusing to accept that maladministration took place. This would seroiusly undermine the Ombudsman;s office and the ability to learn lessons from the Equiable Life affair. The Committee also strongly supports the recommendation for a compensation scheme. Where regulators have been shown to fail so thoroughly, compensation should be a duty, not a matter of choice. While the aim should be restore individuals to the position they would have been had the maladministration not occurred, it is essential that the public purse benefits from an appropriate measure of protection. In particular, the emphasis must be on compensating individuals only for that loss that is fairly attributable to regulatory failure. Further, despite the basic presumption that loss must be accurately assessed, the main priority must be prompt resress. Policyholders have already been waiting almost a decade and substantial numbers have either died or are advancing in years. Justice delayed will mean justice denied to even more people.
Book Synopsis Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networks by : Aloizio Pereira da Silva
Download or read book Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networks written by Aloizio Pereira da Silva and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delay- and Disruption Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are networks subject to arbitrarily long-lived disruptions in connectivity and therefore cannot guarantee end-to-end connectivity at all times. Consequently DTNs called for novel core networking protocols since most existing Internet protocols rely on the network’s ability to maintain end-to-end communication between participating nodes. This book presents the fundamental principles that underline DTNs. It explains the state-of-the-art on DTNs, their architecture, protocols, and applications. It also explores DTN’s future technological trends and applications. Its main goal is to serve as a reference for researchers and practitioners.
Book Synopsis Designing Audio Effect Plugins in C++ by : Will C. Pirkle

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing Audio Effect Plugins in C++ presents everything you need to know about digital signal processing in an accessible way. Not just another theory-heavy digital signal processing book, nor another dull build-a-generic-database programming book, this book includes fully worked, downloadable code for dozens of professional audio effect plugins and practically presented algorithms. Sections include the basics of audio signal processing, the anatomy of a plugin, AAX, AU and VST3 programming guides; implementation details; and actual projects and code. More than 50 fully coded C++ audio signal-processing objects are included. Start with an intuitive and practical introduction to the digital signal processing (DSP) theory behind audio plug-ins, and quickly move on to plugin implementation, gain knowledge of algorithms on classical, virtual analog, and wave digital filters, delay, reverb, modulated effects, dynamics processing, pitch shifting, nonlinear processing, sample rate conversion and more. You will then be ready to design and implement your own unique plugins on any platform and within almost any host program. This new edition is fully updated and improved and presents a plugin core that allows readers to move freely between application programming interfaces and platforms. Readers are expected to have some knowledge of C++ and high school math.

Book Synopsis Left Behind and Loving It by : D. Mark Davis
Download or read book Left Behind and Loving It written by D. Mark Davis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-08-15 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Left Behind and Loving It is a cheeky critique of popular writings about the end times. Rather than presenting a steroid-buffed Jesus wrapped in an American flag and "coming again in clouds of gunfire," Left Behind and Loving It invites readers to approach some of the most controversial and scary portions of the Scriptures with the utter confidence that "God's steadfast love endures forever." Rather than asserting a hope premised on a few chosen ones escaping the world, Left Behind and Loving It argues that if it is Jesus who is to return (and not his evil twin), then the second coming has redemption written all over it. Many today cannot accept the escapist, violent, end-of-the-world scenario envisioned by "Left Behind" theology. Left Behind and Loving It invites readers not to fear but to trust in God's steadfast love and look at the finitude of the world with hope in an infinitely loving God.
