Book Synopsis Biological Shape Analysis - Proceedings Of The 1st International Symposium by : Pete E Lestrel
Download or read book Biological Shape Analysis - Proceedings Of The 1st International Symposium written by Pete E Lestrel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011-06-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings describe the current state of research dealing with biological shape analysis. The quantitative analysis of the shape of biological organisms represents a challenge that has now seen breakthroughs with new methodologies such as elliptical Fourier analysis, quantitative trait loci analysis (QTLs), chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs), thin plate splines, etc. The Proceedings also illustrate the diversity of disciplines that are actively involved in the characterization and analysis of biological shape. Moreover, many of the papers focus on the relationship of the shape to the processes that determine the biological form, an issue of major continuing concern in biology.

Download or read book Biological Shape Analysis - Proceedings Of The 4th International Symposium written by Pete E Lestrel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents an ongoing series entitled Biological Shape Analysis, of which this is the 4th Edition. These proceedings represent state-of-the-art research in the field of biology, broadly-based, that deal with the quantitative analysis of the shape of the biological form. These numerical analyses include Fourier analytic methods, wavelets, neural networks, machine vision, machine learning, median axis transforms, spectral clustering, genome-wide association studies, 3D surface mapping, as well as more traditional morphometric approaches. Studies included are drawn from research in agricultural genetics, anatomy, anthropology, botany, dentistry, entomology, forensics, human evolution, paleontology, primatology, to name a few.The shape of forms can be considered of central importance in terms of identification, comparison, and classification of biological organisms. These proceedings, of which this is the fourth one, are unique in that they deal extensively with a wide range of organisms in biology, including both fauna and flora. They bring together diverse practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines. This represents a major departure from the current emphasis on specialization in the biological sciences. It is of particular importance to note that these issues dealing with shape analysis of biological structures are found to be common across very diverse disciplines and these proceedings are the first ones to highlight this. There are no volumes currently available that are as broadly-based as these proceedings in dealing with the quantification of shape analysis. (1) These volumes are unique in their diversity in covering the biological disciplines; (2) The emphasis on numerical approaches; and (3) the numerous state-of-the-art research papers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because the properties of objects are largely determined by their geometric features, shape analysis and classification are essential to almost every applied scientific and technological area. A detailed understanding of the geometrical features of real-world entities (e.g., molecules, organs, materials and components) can provide important clues about their origin and function. When properly and carefully applied, shape analysis offers an exceedingly rich potential to yield useful applications in diverse areas ranging from material sciences to biology and neuroscience. Book Synopsis Document and Image Compression by : Mauro Barni
Download or read book Document and Image Compression written by Mauro Barni and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it's true that image compression research is a mature field, continued improvements in computing power and image representation tools keep the field spry. Faster processors enable previously intractable compression algorithms and schemes, and certainly the demand for highly portable high-quality images will not abate. Document and Image Compression highlights the current state of the field along with the most probable and promising future research directions for image coding. Organized into three broad sections, the book examines the currently available techniques, future directions, and techniques for specific classes of images. It begins with an introduction to multiresolution image representation, advanced coding and modeling techniques, and the basics of perceptual image coding. This leads to discussions of the JPEG 2000 and JPEG-LS standards, lossless coding, and fractal image compression. New directions are highlighted that involve image coding and representation paradigms beyond the wavelet-based framework, the use of redundant dictionaries, the distributed source coding paradigm, and novel data-hiding techniques. The book concludes with techniques developed for classes of images where the general-purpose algorithms fail, such as for binary images and shapes, compound documents, remote sensing images, medical images, and VLSI layout image data. Contributed by international experts, Document and Image Compression gathers the latest and most important developments in image coding into a single, convenient, and authoritative source.

Book Synopsis Phenomics in Crop Plants: Trends, Options and Limitations by : Jitendra Kumar
Download or read book Phenomics in Crop Plants: Trends, Options and Limitations written by Jitendra Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Identification of desirable genotypes with traits of interest is discernible for making genetic improvement of crop plants. In this direction, screening of a large number of germplasm for desirable traits and transfer of identified traits into agronomic backgrounds through recombination breeding is the common breeding approach. Although visual screening is easier for qualitative traits, its use is not much effective for quantitative traits and also for those, which are difficult to score visually. Therefore, it is imperative to phenotype the germplasm accessions and breeding materials precisely using high throughput phenomics tools for challenging and complex traits under natural, controlled and harsh environmental conditions. Realizing the importance of phenotyping data towards identification and utilization of a germplasm as donors, global scientific community has exerted increased focus on advancing phenomics in crop plants leading to development of a number of techniques and methodologies for screening of agronomic, physiological, and biochemical traits. These technologies have now become much advanced and entered the era of digital science. This book provides exhaustive information on various aspects related to phenotyping of crop plants and offers a most comprehensive reference on the developments made in traditional and high throughput phenotyping of agricultural crops.

Book Synopsis Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns by : Franc Solina
Download or read book Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns written by Franc Solina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the articles accepted for the 8th International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns (CAIP’99), held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1{3 September 1999. The CAIP series of conferences started 14 years ago in Berlin. The series served initially as a forum for meetings between sci- tists from Western and Eastern-bloc countries. Political circumstances have changed dramatically since the inception of the conference and such contacts are fortunately no longer subject to abstrade. While CAIP conferences are still rooted in Central Europe, they now attract participants from all over the world. We received 120 submissions, which went through a thorough double blind review process by the program committee members who, had the option of - signing additional reviewers. The nal program consists of 47 oral and 27 poster presentations, with authors from 25 di erent countries. The proceedings also include 2 of the 5 invited lectures given at the conference. In the name of the steering committee we would like to thank the program committee members and the additional reviewers for their time and e orts. Our thanks also go to the authors for their cooperation and meeting of all deadlines.
