Book Synopsis Compilation of Tensile Properties of High-strength Alloys by : J. E. Campbell
Download or read book Compilation of Tensile Properties of High-strength Alloys written by J. E. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tensile properties that may be obtained in highstrength alloys for use from -423 to 4000 F are presented. Representative properties are given for high-strength alloys of the common base metals having melting points from that of Mg to that of W. The primary purpose is to illustrate the upper limits of the yield strength to density ratios for these alloys within the range of possible service temperatures. The temperature and time effects are combined in the LarsonMiller parameter for 0.2% offset yield strength or 0.2% plastic creep strain for limited creep data. The time for 0.2% offset yield strength determination is assumed as 0.01 hr. This permits use of yield-strength data from tensile tests and 0.2% plastic-creep-strain data from creep tests in the same charts. The LarsonMiller parameter may not be strictly applicable for certain alloys. In some instances, the data are for current production alloys with standard heat treatments. (Author).

Book Synopsis Effects of Interstitial Impurities on the Low-temperature Tensile Properties of Tungsten by : Joseph R. Stephens
Download or read book Effects of Interstitial Impurities on the Low-temperature Tensile Properties of Tungsten written by Joseph R. Stephens and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was undertaken to determine the effects of the interstitial impurities oxygen and carbon on the mechanical properties of polycrystalline tungsten and high-purity tungsten single crystals. Results of tensile tests showed that additions of both oxygen and carbon to polycrystalline tungsten produced a marked increase in the ductile to brittle transition temperature. Oxygen and carbon produced a much smaller increase in the transition temperature of the single-crystal specimens compared with equivalent amounts of impurities in the polycrystalline specimens. Addition of oxygen to polycrystalline tungsten lowered both the ultimate tensile strength and the yield strength, but had no measurable effect on the strength properties of single-crystal specimens. Carbon additions to both polycrystalline and single-crystal specimens did not affect the ultimate tensile strength; however, a large increase in the yield strength resulted. The results suggest that oxygen embrittlement in tungsten is caused by grain-boundary segregation, while carbon embrittlement results from an interaction between carbon atoms and dislocations within the tungsten lattice.

Book Synopsis Tungsten and Its Compounds by : G. D. Rieck
Download or read book Tungsten and Its Compounds written by G. D. Rieck and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tungsten and Its Compounds is a three-chapter text that explores the history, properties, production, and use of tungsten and its related compounds. The first chapter deals with the discovery, applications, ore occurrence, and production of tungsten. The second chapter describes the physico-chemical properties of elemental tungsten, including the structural, thermal, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties, as well as its preparation, production, reactivity, adsorption, electrochemical properties, and analytical aspects. This chapter also examines tungsten's metallographic properties, such as melting, powder metallurgy, singe crystals, and polycrystallinity. The third chapter reviews the properties of tungsten with other metals, metalloids, acids, and salts. This book is of value to inorganic, organic, and analytical chemists, as well as chemistry teachers and students.
