Book Synopsis Comparative Analysis of Traffic Assignment Techniques with Actual Highway Use by : Matthew J. Huber
Download or read book Comparative Analysis of Traffic Assignment Techniques with Actual Highway Use written by Matthew J. Huber and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in use to forecast and assign traffic in planning of major highway facilities are reviewed. Traffic assignments were computed based on both travel time and distance parameters using various diversion curves. Network traffic assignment methods were reviewed with regard to highway capacity restraint functions. These results were compared with the actual travel data. an analysis is presented of errors related to origin-destination input with regard to individual links of the network. Further analysis was conducted to relate link assignments to changes in the origin-destination patterns and to network changes.

Book Synopsis The Traffic Assignment Problem by : Michael Patriksson
Download or read book The Traffic Assignment Problem written by Michael Patriksson and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2015-01-19 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides both a unified account of the development of models and methods for the problem of estimating equilibrium traffic flows in urban areas and a survey of the scope and limitations of present traffic models. The development is described and analyzed by the use of the powerful instruments of nonlinear optimization and mathematical programming within the field of operations research. The first part is devoted to mathematical models for the analysis of transportation network equilibria; the second deals with methods for traffic equilibrium problems. This title will interest readers wishing to extend their knowledge of equilibrium modeling and analysis and of the foundations of efficient optimization methods adapted for the solution of large-scale models. In addition to its value to researchers, the treatment is suitable for advanced graduate courses in transportation, operations research, and quantitative economics.

This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One aspect of the new economy is a transition to a networked society, and the emergence of a highly interconnected, interdependent and complex system of networks to move people, goods and information. An example of this is the in creasing reliance of networked systems (e. g. , air transportation networks, electric power grid, maritime transport, etc. ) on telecommunications and information in frastructure. Many of the networks that evolved today have an added complexity in that they have both a spatial structure – i. e. , they are located in physical space but also an a spatial dimension brought on largely by their dependence on infor mation technology. They are also often just one component of a larger system of geographically integrated and overlapping networks operating at different spatial levels. An understanding of these complexities is imperative for the design of plans and policies that can be used to optimize the efficiency, performance and safety of transportation, telecommunications and other networked systems. In one sense, technological advances along with economic forces that encourage the clustering of activities in space to reduce transaction costs have led to more efficient network structures. At the same time the very properties that make these networks more ef ficient have also put them at a greater risk for becoming disconnected or signifi cantly disruptedwh en super connected nodes are removed either intentionally or through a targeted attack.
