Download or read book The Common Man written by Maurice Manning and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2010-04-09 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Common Man, Maurice Manning’s fourth collection, is a series of ballad-like narratives, set down in loose, unrhymed iambic tetrameter, that honors the strange beauty of the Kentucky mountain country he knew as a child, as well as the idiosyncratic adventures and personalities of the oldtimers who were his neighbors, friends, and family. Playing off the book’s title, Manning demonstrates that no one is common or simple. Instead, he creates a detailed, complex, and poignant portrait—by turns serious and hilarious, philosophical and speculative, but ultimately tragic—of a fast-disappearing aspect of American culture. The Common Man’s accessibility and its enthusiastic and sincere charms make it the perfect antidote to the glib ironies that characterize much contemporary American verse. It will also help to strengthen Manning’s reputation as one of his generation’s most important and original voices.

I AM, I AM, his name thundered through the infinite void. Demons stirred. Ancient gods of the earth, and angels of heaven awoke to peer through misty veils of eternity. The time of reaping had come to God's last creation, to man on earth, to the blue-white world of water, to the Garden planet. Shining angels shook moist, golden wings. Demons rattled dry curses from leathery throats. Giants, sylphs and avatars all wanted in the game. The time has come again for the Host. From the white-haired Old Man flowed a joyous song for all to hear, "Let the Play of Life begin. Let the Play of Life begin."
Download or read book Merle Haggard written by Merle Haggard and published by Hal Leonard Corporation. This book was released on 2002 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merle Haggard is known as "the poet of the common man." His songs are some of the most important and influential in the history of country music, on par with the likes of those by Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams. Through a life as tumultuous as his music, scarred by struggles with inner demons, incarceration and addiction - all of which he has brutally and directly confronted through his lyrics - Haggard has emerged with an American songbook that captures the rough side of life with an unblinking eye gazing on the workings of the human heart. This collection comes on the heels of his acclaimed album If I Could Only Fly, his first new studio album in four years, which finds the former wildman coping with aging, taking on familial responsibilities, and learning to appreciate the wonders of home life versus the pitfalls of the highway. Haggard's lyrics demonstrate why this acclaimed member of the Country Music Hall of Fame is a legend who will live forever.

Mr. Hodge has written The Autobiography of a Common Man with the idea that everyone has significance. It shows how he was raised, decisions made along the way, and the personality that developed. His story tells how he lived, worked, played, and raised a family, all in a state of ignorance concerning real connection with people. His life was based on the Old West macho ideal, aI can ride off into the sunset any time I please.a At first, Mr. Hodge just wanted to get his life down on paper for the edification of his children. However, as the story took shape he came to realize others might have an interest also. He thought it would make good reading for anyone wanting to know how someone else has survived the trials and tribulations of everyday life.

His letter to the church titled “First John” convincingly shows us that ordinary people who walk with God know the truth, live right, and love completely—three characteristics of a true follower of Christ. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present the topic of Chaos Theory and Fractal Geometry to the laymen. As such, this book does not talk down to the reader, nor, does it treat the reader as though they are stupid. I have been told by several reviewers of this book that this book has made the highly abstract and difficult to comprehend arena of mathematics extremely understandable. The reader should note that the computer generated images found within this book were generated via the use of an Artificial Intelligence programming environment called MATHEMATICA. In particular, version 8.2 of Wolfram Research’s MATHEMATICA program that was designed to run on a sixteen processor MACH based UNIX workstation. Consequently, most of the code for the generation of the fractal graphics presented within this book can be gotten upon request. However, for those that don’t have the rather expensive Wolfram Research based MATHEMATICA environment, they can go to YOUTUBE and view a fractamation version of the geometric shapes described in this book. The name of the YOUTUBE based fractal music video is “Mathematical Art-Works Four”.
Book Synopsis The Ten Commandments, a Common Man's Opinion by : P. L. Reynolds
Download or read book The Ten Commandments, a Common Man's Opinion written by P. L. Reynolds and published by August Press. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ten Commandments, A Common Man's Opinion This opinion was written as a straight up analysis of one of the most important documents ever given to, and recorded by, Man. The Ten Commandments is not only key to all of western civilization, but is also key to each individual life. It is about the relationship of God to Mankind and the relationship of man to man. It is about the relationship of God to each of us. "To each of us" is the key. The ten commandments were given to Moses after Moses and his people had left Egypt, a country that had been ruled by kings and tyrants for several thousand years. All countries were ruled by kings and tyrants at this time. The individual was not important except to serve at the kings disposal during this time frame. God is addressing the individual with the Ten Commandments. This was the first time in recorded history the people and the individual were directly addressed. This book was purposely written from a simple perspective, a common sense perspective that we all can understand, to help show that what God wants from us, and for us, is not exclusive to the privileged. I did not preconceive or plan to write about such an important reality, an event, a communication between God and Man, I am just compelled to do so - for better or worse. The writing itself was a discovery mission. There have been other opinions written in the past, and today, by scholars and intellectuals and clergy. This opinion is written by a layman who likes to think and contemplate realities that have come into our lives. I think that, in the Commandments, God is speaking directly to us, the individual. Each of us. I feel God wants our direct communication and our direct love. No one is our representative. This is between God and each of us. And so, God gave us the Ten Commandments to contemplate and act on. Men have named - these words of God - Commandments. While working on this Opinion, I began to feel that these are not commandments as we would normally think that a commandment is, but wishes that God has for us. Each statement is a wish, a want, that God has for each of us. God could stomp it into our heads ...but He doesn't. There is a reason for that. The fact that He could but doesn't is really part of the understanding that we must come to. I know this, the message is simple and straight forward so that all people, each of us, can achieve an understanding, a relationship, a revelation in and with God, our Creator. He talks to us in a way that He knows we can understand. He asks us to live and act in ways that He knows we can do. I find in the words - of the Commandments - that God gave us a certain revelation of HIM. A reflection of His reality. Each word can be contemplated - to find its own truth. Each word-relation to each other, can be contemplated to find a certain revelation. All of the words written, are about understanding, and relationship and revelation, that are dependent on the words and beyond the words. I feel that there are revelations about God and revelations about what God hopes for us in the Commandments. The Commandments, it seems to me, are a crack in the hard wired evolutionary circular paths that make changes constantly, but still remain the same, as they progress through time. The Commandments are the first step in the ascendancy of Man to more than just animal. Love beyond the meager understanding of Man is confronting us in the Commandments. Even so, as a unit, it is telling us that we can understand. God is challenging us to answer the call. If only we will hear. I hope that you enjoy reading this and thinking about the Ten Commandments as much as I enjoyed writing and discovering ideas in it. P.L. Reynolds, A Common Man
