I hope that it enhances your study and your growth in relationship to God and the Church. I've noticed that some teachers and preachers do not use an Old Testament story in their presentation; instead they use only New Testament verses of Scripture. Perhaps the Old Testament stories appear too long or difficult for hearers to understand. But in this book, I have made it easy to read about the Old Testament stories. Like in my first book written in 2014 entitled, All the Miracles of Jesus, from the New Testament, each story in this collection of Old Testament stories is short and written in easy language for the reader to understand. In reading this book, you will find that God has given us lots of interesting stories in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible! It is my hope that you will discover a new love for the written Word of God in the Old Testament, and that you will always have a collection of the Old Testament stories in your possession. God Bless You, Elder McKinley Wells

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Stories: Old Testament Kings and Prophets, The Exile and Return.* Each period is represented by its most important stories; the purpose of the introduction and notes to each section is to weave all together by indicating briefly the bearing of each story on the general history. Thus it is hoped that the whole volume may leave on a young mind an impression of Old Testament history, in outline complete (however scanty), but with outline supplemented by the most vivid picturing of important points. With the selection of stories no one will be satisfied, least of all the editor. But those who may be inclined to be censorious on this subject should try the experiment of making a selection themselves, and they will see how an editor has to sacrifice his own favour ites to stern limitations of space and suitability. Hundreds of years before they were written down at all they were told over and over again to 'the children of Israel by their parents. You may be sure that the things about their forefathers which were remembered for so long were the things that made the people of long ago most real to the children of Israel. And they are real to us too, for we see that these men of the old world were not unlike ourselves: the good people then loved obedience and patience, kindness and truth and the evil things they had to fight against were dis obedience, bad temper, and deceit. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Stories From the Old Testament The stories in this book are those which were told and retold by the Hebrew people a long time ago, and are found in that part Of the Bible called the Old Testament. It is good for us to know what they in that far-oe time thought about the things which we still think about and won der over, - the earth, the people and creatures upon it, and the God who made it. We must keep in mind the fact that we are not reading histories, but stories which give us thoughts about things instead of facts about them. We are not to think that all they tell us is true, but read the stories for the truth that is in them. In them God walks on the earth, and talks with men as if He were Himself a man. Sometimes He sends angels to speak for Him and to do what He wants to have done. This was the Old-time way of thinking and speaking; but we may be lieve that God spoke in the past as He speaks to-day, - that is, in the thought and conscience of those who love Him. Who ever brings to us a word Of truth and life is His angel, or mes senger. Sometimes He and His servants do impossible things and things which do not seem to us right or good. This is be cause the stories come to us from a time when people did not have schools and churches and the same thoughts of what is good and true that we have today. But in each story there is a lesson that is as good for us as it was for them of olden time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Stories From the Old Testament I N preparing this book of Bible stories the writer has had but one purpose above all others, to present to the childish mind the old Biblical tales without the sense of injustice and cruelty Which were unfortunately impressed upon her own mind in the days when she pored over the family Bible, studying the pictures of Adam and Eve being driven out of Eden, of Cain being chastised by God, of the flood, of Abraham ready to plunge the knife into Isaac's innocent body, and spelling out a sentence here and there which, to her untaught, unguided mind, seemed to speak only of God's anger, God's vengeance, God's wrath, God's jealousy. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Old Testament Legends: Being Stories Out of Some of the Less-Known Apocryphal Books of the Old Testament Let us keep the old name for them and call them the Apocrypha. It will be convenient to do so, because I have now to speak of other apocryphal books, which have never been bound up in our Bibles, but in older times, before Bibles were printed, were (some of them at least) read in churches and thought to be sacred books. There are a great many of these: perhaps, if they were all put together, they would make up a volume as large as the Old Testament itself; but at present there is no book in which they are all printed to gether. Some are stories, others are visions like those in the Revelation of St. John, others are psalms and prophecies. But all of them, I think, may fairly be called either fabulous or spurious, or both. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Old Testament Manuscripts in the Freer Collection In the publication of the manuscript of the Psalms the chief task has been to separate and read the badly decayed and black ened leaves. No pains have been spared in making the work as complete and accurate as possible, yet in all too many cases these decayed fragments of a manuscript have no evidence on most interesting passages. All decayed or lost lines and parts of lines have been filled out in the text publication from the Swete text, except where the amount of space in the manuscript proved the existence of a variant. The first fifteen Psalms are so fragmen tary, that it seemed best to give those lines only of which some part is preserved. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each of the 30 essays here delves into a topic that gives us much food for thought: the Bible as interpreted through ancient Near-Eastern creation myths, flood myths, and goddess myths; gender in the Bible; the feminist approach to Jewish law; comparative Jewish and Christian perspectives on the Hebrew Bible; biblical perspectives on ecology; creating a theology of healing; feminine God-talk. The volume concludes with the author's own original prayers in the form of poetic meditations on pregnancy and birthing. This book is unique, not only because it is the only volume in the JPS Scholar of Distinction series written by a woman, but also because Frymer-Kensky's personal and forthright voice resonates so clearly throughout each piece. Scholars and students of Bible, Jewish studies, and women's studies will surely find this to be a one-of-a kind collection.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Books of the Old Testament: A Short Introduction The following pages are designed for those readers who are interested in the Old Testament, not only as a storehouse of devotion and doctrine, but also as a collection of ancient writings presenting many literary and historical problems. In the space at the writer's disposal, it will be obvious that only the more important of these problems could be discussed. For convenience of reference, the order of books in the English Version has been followed. How little this is a guide to the origin of the books may be illustrated by the ct that the account of Creation on the first page of the Old Testament and the prophecy of 'Malachi' on the last were published at practically the same time. The chronological tables will assist the reader to fix the succession of the different writings. The writer may be allowed to suggest here that the critical analyses of the historical books, on which so much of their interpretation depends, can be appreciated only if some means be taken to represent them to the eye. For the Hexateuch, the works mentioned in the text do this by means of variations of type, and so far as issued the parts of the Polychrome Bible fey die more expensive but clearer method of colours. In the following pages, however, sufficiently detailed notes of analysis have been included to enable the student to construct a PolyduDome Bible for himself if he takes the trouble to washin the text of the various sources by means of water-colours. The thanks of the author are due and are hereby offered to the Rev. J. Estlin Carpenter for many helpful suggestions and criticisms.
