Its purpose is to share the love, pain and growth that so many have lived through and to inspire healing by all who grieve. This book lets mourners know that they are not alone and they are not going crazy, they are grieving and they can heal. It was written over a 22 year period by a mother after the death of her 24 year old son by suicide in 1986. Many of the poems have been previously published in newsletters, brochures and on the internet. They have proven to be very encouraging to those who grieve by helping them to deal with and understand their grieving journey. The book offers a clear explanation of the grief journey and grief process as experienced from the perspective of all family members, friends and fellow grievers in fourteen chapters. The chapters are divided by the stages and the friend or family member's perspective. The poems and commentary offer suggestions and information about helpful methods and modalities that a grieving person can use to better negotiate the different stages of grief. The author uses her experiences and education as the Executive Director/CEO of the Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention, Inc. and a member of the Florida State Suicide Prevention Coordinating Council to explain and share the experiences of thousands of grieving individuals which she has come in contact with over the last 22 years. The commentary and poems express the perspective of both the author and survivors with which she has worked and describes their pain and ultimate healing. This book is a useful tool for anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one including those dealing with a death by suicide.

Butterflies have been her favorite insect ever since she can remember. She loves clothing, pictures, and other things with butterflies on them. Butterflies are a symbol of new beginnings, so writing a book with butterflies in it just made sense to her. One night sitting in the quiet, she asked for guidance. "What is her purpose? What is going to make her happier and successful in life?" All of a sudden, the book came rushing into her head; she couldn't write it down fast enough! She's never written a book before, so it was all new to her. Later, when the book was more than half written, she started typing it onto the computer, again, she couldn't type fast enough because the words were still flowing like water. The book was finished in a month; editing and tweaking took a while longer. Now, it's ready for you to read: six little bedtime stories. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.

Finished singing, Khalil Khoury notices her sitting alone, joins her, then notices no one else. Georgetown University's 1964 summer program opens; Salzburg's magic begins. "The Butterfly & The Snail" interweaves several heartfelt encounters, creating a fabric of love and intimacy that transforms their lives forever. On one outing, Rebecca loses her footing and tumbles down Untersberg Mountain. Khalil risks his life-and almost loses it-to save Rebecca from falling off the peak. Two days later, Rebecca discovers a newborn butterfly and then spies a snail picking its way up the path. These creatures come to symbolize this couple's extraordinary relationship. Relaxing on Gaisberg's hillside, Rebecca reveals the turmoil she's had to overcome to gain inner peace. Yet, she confesses, her heart's desire-love-has eluded her. When Khalil reacts with sympathy and compassion, she desires that powerful, mystical love radiating from within him. She asks, "How can I love like you?" His answer binds them together forever. Six weeks later, the program ends. As Rebecca says good-bye, Khalil hands her an envelope: "Not to be opened until out of Salzburg." Is this his auf Wiedersehen or the beginning of a deeper relationship? Discover if their magic continues beyond Salzburg. "I personally wanted to congratulate you for submitting one of the top proposals in the contest ... this is no small feat given more than 300 proposals were received and yours rose to the top." Christine Kloser, 2012 Transformational Author Writing Contest Sponsor "I am reading your book and I love it. I really cried on the chapter about your father. My mother died from cervical cancer and had a lot of agony and pain also. So, I really connected with you and your family. It was beautifully written. You are really good!" A sixteen-year-old black boy, Willy Hamilton, lives in the Colored House with Carol, his fifteen-year-old pretty sister. She is a superb artist and suffers from congenital illness that often weaken her so that she must rest. Willy is the only black boy in Freddy’s class at Hunts Point High School. Despite fearing ridicule by his friends and strong disapproval from his father for associating with blacks, Freddy becomes friendly with Willy and Carol. He is enthralled with her beauty and the magnificence of her paintings. Freddy and Carol like each other. Since Carol doesn’t go to school and must remain home all the time, she feels alone. But because of Freddy’s interest in her, she doesn’t feel alone anymore.

Book excerpt: Giacomo Puccini, composer of some of the world's most popular operas, including La Boheme, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly, was also a highly literary person who based his librettos on existing works of literature. This work explores that literary inheritance in an effort to enhance the listener's appreciation of the operatic experience. The author argues that the majority of Puccini's operas compose a grand cycle that finds its roots in the romance genre of 12th century France, serving to celebrate the strong, independent heroine. Via a close examination of the source works, the librettos, and the scores, this book offers fresh perspective on Puccini's legacy.

Her cousin Olga is enlisted as an accomplice in clumsy, youthful, romantic escapades. When America enters the conflict, the young men in the Long Island town where the girls live set aside their educations and eagerly enlist to serve the country. While Lenore bemoans the loss of most of her admirers, Olga does all she can to serve on the home front. The patriotism of the men sends them off with the certainty that they will quickly defeat the madman ravaging Europe. They fight tirelessly and eventually succeed in destroying the aggressor. Mature men return home to pick up the threads of the peaceful lives they had expected would be theirs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anita Endrezze has deep memories. Her father was a Yaqui Indian. Her mother traced her heritage to Slovenia, Germany, Romania, and Italy. And her stories seem to bubble up from this ancestral cauldron. Butterfly Moon is a collection of short stories based on folk tales from around the world. But its stories are set in the contemporary, everyday world. Or are they? Endrezze tells these stories in a distinctive and poetic voice. Fantasy often intrudes into reality. Alternate “realities” and shifting perspectives lead us to question our own perceptions. Endrezze is especially interested in how humans hide feelings or repress thoughts by developing shadow selves. In “Raven’s Moon,” she introduces the shadow concept with a Black Moon, the “unseen reflection of the known.” (Of course the story is about a witch couple who seem very much in love.) The title character in “The Wife Who Lived on Wind” is an ogress who lives in a world somewhat similar to our own, but only somewhat. “The Vampire and the Moth Woman” reveals shape-shifters living among us. Not surprisingly, Trickster appears in these tales. As in Native American stories, Trickster might be a fox or a coyote or a raven or a human—or something in between. “White Butterflies” and “Where the Bones Are” both deal with devastating diseases that swept through Yaqui country in the 1530s. Underneath their surfaces are old Yaqui folktales that feature the greatest Trickster of all: Death (and his little brother Fate). Enjoyably disturbing, these stories linger—deep in our memory.

Book excerpt: A Butterfly’s Revolution is a powerful memoir in which the narrator paints a searing portrait of life for Indian indentured laborers in colonial South Africa, while providing a devastatingly honest account of the inhumanity of Hindu caste hierarchy. Above all, however, it is a startling celebration of the gritty strength of the human spirit. As children, Leo, the son of a British plantation owner, and Ram, the son of an Indian indentured laborer, become close intimate friends. As young adults, the two become attracted to humanitarian work. They travel to a Hindu village called Sugarbush—“a place,” Mohandas Gandhi tells them, “in desperate need of human development at its most basic level.” Upon their arrival, they discover that although the laborers have earned their freedom from their British and Dutch owners, a new class of master has taken their place—the land-owning men belonging to the Hindu forward castes—and so little has changed for the masses. They embark on a fi ve-year struggle to bring progress to Sugarbush and to instill the concepts of human dignity and equality. Will these two young men succeed in realizing their noble intentions? Readers will find themselves engrossed in this riveting story as they uncover more revelations and witness a surprising end.
