Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story could very well have happened while hunting elk in Colorado. When I approached two men dressed in street clothes and oxfords. It was strange to see them in 14 inches of fresh snow but there big smiling faces left me to believe every thing was OK. They told me that they had been stuck for four days and I offered to help them out. They apparently had no money to pay for the damaged chains on my vehicle. Later that night I had a terrible dream that they took me prisoner and held me against my will for 72 hours in a poorly constructed 16x20 cabin on Elliot Ridge. The drug runners had a plantation up there, and a clearing big enough to land a helicopter. The last two chapters of the book are fictional, my dream, in thirty years I've had a lot of strange and ironic events during elk hunting, but not tragic. But it could have been when 3 men took my bull elk at gun point in 1973. They threatened me to step out of my truck. I did not provoke them, I said that "If I come out it won't be empty handed".

Book excerpt: Drawing on his years of experience, Judd Cooney, one of America’s most prominent outdoor writers and photographers, offers practical information on bowhunting big and small game across North America. Cooney shares his unique wealth of hunting information with tips and tactics for pursuing whitetail and Coues deer, elk, caribou, moose, bears, antelopes, mule and blacktail deer, and cougars. He offers sage advice on how to bowhunt for turkeys, javelina, hogs, game birds, and waterfowl and first-rate advice on bowfishing. With Cooney’s own practical field experience of over fifty years, you’ll find useful suggestions on what to do after the hit and steps for preparing your trophy when afield. This manual also includes a listing of Game and Fish departments throughout North America. With crisp, honest, understandable language, this invaluable reference will teach everything a bowhunter needs to know when he sets out. For those who dream of hunting trips to far-away places or those who simply wish to improve their backyard hunting skills, Bowhunter’s Field Manual offers on-target assistance and comprehensible instructions. With the multitude of game that Cooney discusses, this guide is the ideal package—“good reading and generous information offered by an outdoorsman who has lived the words he chooses to share,” in the words of M. R. James, author of the book’s foreword.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank's new book "Hunt for Survival" is a thrilling story of survival by two combat veterans of the Gulf war who have become avid archery hunters. Pursuing the majestic bull elk in the northwest region of Montana was the dream hunt of a life time. Massive bull elk thrived in this region's beautiful landscape. Delivery by helicopter to the remote mountains of the Kootenai forest brings challenges they never imagined. Survival would depend on the ability to draw upon their Special Forces training during the Gulf War. It is the dream hunt that becomes a nightmare. Twenty years have passed since Hank and Ted encountered each other during the Gulf War. They discover each other share a passion for archery hunting. Although Ted has only hunted deer he is invited to hunt elk with Hank. Hank and his wife, Sara, have adopted a black son, Lamont, who is now a senior in college. Lamont has also become an avid archery elk hunter. Ted, Hank and Lamont have a brief hunt in the Colorado Rockies to introduce Ted to elk hunting. The story continues with Ted and Hank deciding to engage a guide service to hunt elk in the remote mountains of northwest Montana. Ted invites his nephew, Sam, who is Jewish. A helicopter is needed to reach the remote hunting area. Little did they know a Neo-Nazi training camp is just a few miles away. Sam and Lamont are captured by men from the Neo-Nazi camp. Hank and Ted search for Lamont and Sam where upon they discover them in the Nazi camp. The veil of their Special Forces training descends upon Ted and Hank as they plan the rescue of Sam and Lamont.
