The book-template source for each book in the series is the published and copyrighted Appendix A, which specifies how to integrate the 63 public domain watercolor images created in the 1890’s by French artist James Tissot with 655 selected Bible verses recorded in the first century in the Greek language by the authors of the New Testament Gospels. The book template’s matrix format, “Gospels’ Comparative Text Alignment” [G’CTA], creates a single chronological story through the parallel alignment of the four Gospel authors’ narratives. This matrix format is often referred to as a Harmony of the Gospels. This first illustrated book in the series, KJV pilot version, is a derivative work compilation that presents the 655 Bible verses in English, using the KJV Bible translation commissioned by King James I of England in 1604 and completed in 1611; a significant upgrade to the translation occurred in 1769. The KJV translation is now considered public domain, except in the United Kingdom. The planned next book in the series will also be in English using the NLT Bible translation (New Living Translation.) A “fair use” permission for publication using this Bible translation has been granted by Tyndale House Publishers. Negotiations are also in process to produce other series books in English using the NABRE (Catholic), NIV (New International Version) and the NKJV (New King James Version) Bible translations.

Using a “Harmony of the Gospels” matrix format, the intent is to compile a single chronological story derived from the endings of the four gospels and the first two chapters of Acts. (See Table of Contents page showing the 655 selected Bible verses.) The four matrix columns contain the Bible verses from (1) Matthew, (2) Mark, (3) Luke, and (4) John, then Acts. Where the verses from multiple gospels are describing the same (sub)event, the narratives are placed in horizontal parallel alignment on the page ( “Gospels’ Comparative Text Alignment” [G’CTA] ). To produce a single chronological story, discrepancies in event sequences in the four gospels had to be resolved. After careful analysis, the publishing editor had to make a subjective decision as to the sequence the events would be ordered in the text. (Those column verses presented out of sequence are boxed in an orange double border.) A small number of the selected 655 Bible gospel verses are not present in the earliest surviving gospel manuscripts. The text of those passages are italicized and in green font. A suggestion to illustrate the books (to be created from this derivative work compilation book template) was implemented after finding the 365 public domain watercolor images created by James Tissot in the late 1800’s. We selected 63 images (from volumes III & IV of The Life of Our Saviour Jesus Christ published in the USA in 1899) to be placed adjacent to the corresponding Bible verses in the text. (Bible verses illustrated by the adjacent images are double-underlined in the matrix table.) The resulting chronological G’CTA matrix table was then subdivided into 78 “events” (with author/editor-generated event descriptions) under the six section headings identified in the Table of Contents.

Comprised of seven books, Josephus' account of the fraught and conflicted period of Judeo-Roman history is written with an urgency expected of a man who personally witnessed and lived through the tumultuous events he describes. Josephus commences his work with an overview of Jewish history from the Maccabees through to the Roman conquest. Rome's victory celebrations, and the temporary transition of the Roman military from a conquering to an occupying force, is detailed. The subsequent suppression of the Jewish revolt and the stages of the First Jewish-Roman war are detailed. The Emperor Vespasian oversaw the renewed conflict: his son Titus proved his personal capabilities as a military commander in the Judean theater. Subsequent to Josephus's history, Titus would succeed his father as Roman Emperor with a reputation of a decorated veteran. Having personally observed the shocking destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., Josephus felt moved to write his own interpretation of the conflicts which ultimately led to the temple's demise. Having traveled throughout the Middle East and to Rome personally, Josephus had a strong grasp of Jewish and Roman cultures. Rather than echo other historians of the era by condemning the Jews for agitating the Roman forces, Josephus instead asserts that the war and consequent damage were the result of fanatical zealots. Their charisma led to swathes of the masses lending their support, leaving the traditional Jewish aristocracy - of which Josephus was a member - unable to rein in the popular fury against Rome. This edition of The Wars of the Jews contains all seven books of Josephus' history in their entirety, together with complete sets of notes which clarify certain passages and terms used in the text, appended at the conclusion of each book. The translation to English is by the respected 18th century scholar, historian and theologian William Whiston.
