Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hey, Noah, Wait for Me! is a zany satiric fantasy involving an out-of-control animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex turned loose on young Prudence's field trip by an evil secular humanist. The results are quite devastating. In the very human "Lov [sic] Story" we meet a philosophical New York cop, a foolish young man and an equally foolish young woman who meet in Times Square on a freezing day and manage, as the cop warned might happen, to blow a potential relationship by telling lies to impress each other. "Ménage à Trois" involves a lovers' triangle consisting of a smug but unwise husband, a phony lover from long ago, and a timid, self-effacing wife/lover whose brains and memory outclass both husband and former lover when the three rendezvous in New York City. "Mirror Mirror..." offers a cautionary lesson in interpersonal dynamics: we should beware of what we wish for, especially if we consider our family normal. A sweet, highly moral middle-class mother, a gentle but eBay-addicted father, and a slightly goofy teenage daughter make wishes before an altogether effective magic mirror. In "A Tuber Melanosporum Affair" France and an American backwoods county join spritual hands in the noble cause of truffle cultivation. However, love-struck Miranda, is fed up with her family and anything related to truffles, including her sweetheart's devotion to his French-inspired hot-air balloon and its tie-in to the truffle industry. A mystery develops when sabotage by pig occurs.

Book excerpt: "As the poetics is based on the texts (not derived by deduction or theoretical extension from some principle of poetics), so it is applied as a tool of analysis to the texts and used in conjunction with evaluation. The underlying assumption is that the task of poetics is instrumental, and that its usefulness has to be demonstrated and verified in practice. Hence, the division of the book into two parts. As Part I formulates a poetics on the basis of the texts, so Part II applies the poetics to the major texts - always within the dynamics of the multiple-plot and multi-layered perspective on a play. Part II focuses in detail on The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Merchant of Venice, and Twelfth Night, analyzing the agons and placing them in relation to the comedy of love and the perspective of folly."--Jacket.

Book excerpt: This is the latest edition of Garry Landreth’s comprehensive text on creating therapeutic relationships with children through play. This book details Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based model, which stresses the importance of understanding the child’s world. Professors who have taught a course based on the previous editions will be pleased to find the core message intact but updated with a comprehensive review of rigorous contemporary research demonstrating the strong evidence base for CCPT across cultural groups and presenting issues. Expanded to cover additional topics of interest, this new edition includes a model of the change process in CCPT and 13 new Rules of Thumb that help clarify the CCPT relationship, and discusses deeper issues in CCPT, such as recognizing emotional blocks in play therapy, being culturally responsive, discovering meaning when there seems to be no meaning, and more. This new edition offers essential help to play therapists who respond to sensitive issues at every stage of the therapeutic process.

This fountainhead of its kind inspires a new way of seeing and saying. Its a journey for students to theater kingdom with themes that are topical the world over. A string of eight plays is categorized for each age group comprising of 811, 1214, and 1517 years. This helps the theater person to put in minimum efforts for selection and presentation of the play with the appropriate age group of children. Hence plays for the first group focus on their curiosity and imagination (i.e., thinking skills) and being able to communicate. The most sensitive age group, 1214, interacts with the world around. They are given enough space to create and construct the script and also to innovate on the stage. With their collaborative skills, they confidently initiate smooth changes without disturbing the theme. In the third group, the young adult Naturals to the core are allowed to own interactive ability. The young adult is ready to execute in an eloquent voice and commanding stage presence. They learn from each other while analyzing characters and story elements that focus on social causes, thereby creating and shaping relationships that are therapeutic.

Book excerpt: Philip and Sophie Nibs are a young couple singled out by their friends for the apparent bliss of their marriage, although they aren't convinced themselves that their union is quite as idyllic as others may think. While having coffee at a cafe they are joined by a friend, Leonard Joy. He, like the others, rhapsodises on the Nibs' happy state while lamenting his own inability to establish a solid, lasting relationship with a member of the opposite sex. Urged on by his friends, Leonard makes a halting approach toward a very attractive young lady, Debra Scattergood, who is enjoying her newspaper at an adjacent table. But when his overtures are positively received poor Leonard is suddenly flustered and unsure of what to do next until Philip and Sophie, good friends to the last, come to his rescue. When Debra and Leonard go off together, Philip and Sophie at first share a sense of pleasant anticipation as to what might lie ahead of them until they realise that they may have witnessed the creation of another relationship similar to their own, in which others will cluck over an envied felicity which may be more hoped for than real.

Book excerpt: A STANDALONE TO HELP YOU START THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING RANDOM SERIES: I guzzled another flute of Champagne and froze, the liquid in my throat, waiting to be swallowed. Tyler was here. We’d met a few times before, in passing. He was the substitute bass player for the band; I was the lead guitar player’s girlfriend’s best friend. In that weird sort of social circle thing where Venn diagrams get laid over different groups, Tyler and I were bound to be in the crossover once in a while. He looked so hot. Short brown hair. A few days of beard. Bright green eyes that were more guarded than a Russian mobster’s. He was sleeved, the colorful tattoos a tapestry, but every time I met him I couldn’t quite see them. We only saw each other in dark concert halls, or tonight, under the stars. He gave Sam a rare smile and a hearty handshake, forearm muscles bulging. I wondered what it would be like to have those hands on me. My fingers tracing those tats. Listening to him tell me the story of his body while he forgave mine. Forgave it for failing me. I shook my head fast to banish the thoughts that drew me into places so dark they became black holes of the soul. The gravity of trauma had a way of sucking all the good into it, and tonight I wasn’t going to let that happen. The opposite, in fact. Tonight I was going to sleep with Tyler. He didn’t know it yet, but that was okay. He would. Soon. * * * Random Acts of LA is the 7th book in the New York Times bestselling Random series, the ongoing story of the up-and-coming rock band, Random Acts of Crazy. When the band's bass player, Joe Ross, gets injured in an unfortunate sex act that gains nationwide coverage, it's tatted-up Tyler (aka "Frown") to the rescue for their first big concert. There's only one problem: the morning of his flight to L.A. he wakes up to find someone's stolen all his money, his bass, his ID, and his pride. When he shows up at Maggie's doorstep to ask her to drive him from their hometown of St. Louis all the way to L.A., these two damaged people learn quickly that being independent doesn't always mean being free... Warning: This book deals with the very difficult topic of sexual assault and rape, and I’ve taken great care to address this with the sensitivity and respect it deserves. None of the scenes in the book contain sexual violence, though the characters do tell their stories of past sexual violence. None of those descriptions is graphic or gratuitous. This book is about hope and healing, but the characters do have past trauma that they discuss. Topics: contemporary romance, romantic comedy, new adult romance, rockstar romance, rock star romance, coming of age romance, erotic romance, seductive story, hot romance, women's fiction, women's romance, roadtrip romance, road trip romance, los angeles romance, bbw romance, tattoo, tattooed guy, college romance, contemporary woman julia kent, julia kent romance
