Book Synopsis Adult Crying by : Ad J.J.M. Vingerhoets
Download or read book Adult Crying written by Ad J.J.M. Vingerhoets and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crying is a typical human expression of emotion. Surprisingly, until now little scientific attention has been devoted to this phenomenon. Many textbooks on emotion fail to pay attention to it, and in scientific journals there are hardly any contributions focusing on this behavior. In contrast, there is much interest from the lay public, allowing pseudo-scientists to formulate theories that have little or no scientific basis. Is there any evidence in support of statements that crying is healthy or that not crying may result in toxification? How do people react to the crying of others? Is crying important for the diagnosis of depression, and if so, how? This book aims to fill this gap in scientific literature. Crying is discussed from several perspectives and specific attention is given to methodological issues and assessment. Each chapter provides a review and a summary of the relevant scientific literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will help readers prepare their hearts in expectation, be watchful for the approaching move of God, and build a deeper relationship with Him. In this Spirit-inspired teaching respected scholar and theologian R. T. Kendall uses Jesus’s parable of the ten virgins to describe the condition of the church in the last days. Many Charismatics and Pentecostals assume that what we have seen in the one hundred years since Azusa Street is the final move of God before the Second Coming. Kendall explains that this is not so and reveals that a movement of the Holy Spirit, which is one hundred times greater than anything we have seen—indeed the greatest since Pentecost—is about to unfold. It’s time to wake up!

Book excerpt: A tragicomic story of bad dates, bad news, bad performances, and one girl's determination to find the funny in high school from the author of Denton Little's Deathdate. Winnie Friedman has been waiting for the world to catch on to what she already knows: she's hilarious. It might be a long wait, though. After bombing a stand-up set at her own bat mitzvah, Winnie has kept her jokes to herself. Well, to herself and her dad, a former comedian and her inspiration. Then, on the second day of tenth grade, the funniest guy in school actually laughs at a comment she makes in the lunch line and asks her to join the improv troupe. Maybe he's even . . . flirting? Just when Winnie's ready to say yes to comedy again, her father reveals that he's been diagnosed with ALS. That is . . . not funny. Her dad's still making jokes, though, which feels like a good thing. And Winnie's prepared to be his straight man if that's what he wants. But is it what he needs? Caught up in a spiral of epically bad dates, bad news, and bad performances, Winnie's struggling to see the humor in it all. But finding a way to laugh is exactly what will see her through. **A Junior Library Guild Selection**

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE CRUSADE OF THE CHILDREN is a fictionalized story about a young French shepherd boy who believed he was called by God to preach a crusade of children to free the Holy Land from the Moslems. The fever spread as he preached before thousands of people and he attracted a following of about 30,000 children, many under the age of twelve. This seething mass of children set out for Marseilles where they believed ships would carry them to the Holy Land, which was under control of the Moslems. After many days, many of the children deserted and returned to their homes. However, about five thousand sailed away in ships provided by two unsavory characters. Two ships were wrecked off the island of San Pietro, but the others reached a Mohammedan port and slave market.
