Great for the newcomer and a multifaceted pick-me-up for the more experienced practitioner. Buddhism has influenced Western thinking like no other Eastern religion. Even people who have no interest in adopting it wholeheartedly acknowledge the wisdom of its philosophical insights. 365 Ways to Live a Buddhist Life covers basic themes of universal relevance such as: the beauty of nature, good and bad karma, the importance of empathy, how to deal with stress and anxiety, how to meditate successfully, how to be happy, and the joy to be found in service to others. Alongside these "pearls" of practical advice there are "lanterns": lucid explanations of key Buddhist concepts that illuminate Buddhist belief and practice, and enlightening accounts of key moments, such as the Buddha's sermon in the Deer Park. The book itself is compact, attractive and beautifully illustrated. Full of accessible Eastern wisdom, this book will help you to find the road to inner peace and happiness.

Book excerpt: What if everything which we've always wanted are already inside of us?Think about it.Why do we want the expensive cars, houses, bags and watches? Why do we want the perfect relationship with the people we love? Why do we want to be healthy?Emotion. We want what we want because of what we think achieving it will make us feel. It is not the car(s) that matters... it is the feeling we think having that car will give us.Gautama Buddha was born a Prince. However, upon seeing the sufferings of people outside of his palace, he decided to seek answers. After a long spiritual search, discovered the state of enlightenment... or otherwise known as Buddhahood. This book is not about the life story of Buddha. It is, however, about the life teachings of Buddha. Quotes are so special because they provide us a foundation for teaching, analyzing and relating... and yet... they do not tell us what to think and how to think. It is absolutely up to our own will on what each quote means to us.

A daily reminder that you have exactly same potential for achieving enlightenment as the Buddha did. An increase in your level of love, compassion, and patience, even for those who would do you harm. Who was the Buddha? Siddhartha Gautama, a prince born in Nepal more than 2500 years ago, gave up all of his worldly possessions at the age of 29 and went on a journey to understand the true nature of human existence. After almost seven years of intense concentration and self-deprivation, Gautama found the answers while sitting in deep meditation beneath a Bodhi tree. At that moment, Gautama became "The Enlightened One" - the Buddha. He spent the next 45 years traveling throughout northern India and Nepal, teaching thousands upon thousands of disciples the way to end suffering and to achieve enlightenment. Importantly, the Buddha insisted that the Truth led away from him, and instead towards our inner selves. This is why the Buddha is not worshipped like a god. Rather, he is revered as a great teacher. He was just a man who became enlightened, and who showed the world that each of us could become enlightened too. Today, over 500 million people in every corner of the world call themselves Buddhists. Why? Because millions of people have discovered for themselves how the Buddha's teachings can bring relief from suffering and fill their beings with joy. This is the beauty and simplicity of Buddhism: The keys to unlocking unbounded happiness and joy are inside of you right now, and there is a simple but powerful way to access these keys and begin to live a more fulfilling, loving, and compassionate life immediately. Start each day with wisdom from one of history's greatest teachers - the Buddha himself. Let his words inspire action so that every day becomes better than the last. With 365 days worth of wisdom at your fingertips, it's never been easier to start becoming who you were meant to be all along. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a great modern Nyingma master, Dudjom Rinpoche's The Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism covers in detail and depth both the fundamental teachings and the history of Tibetan Buddhism's oldest school. This, the first English translation of His Holiness' masterwork, constitutes the most complete work of its type in the West. An absolute treasure for students of the tradition, it is also an indispensable reference for anyone with an interest in Buddhism. The book includes chronologies and glossaries that elucidate Buddhist doctrine, and it provides fascinating insights into the Buddhist history of Tibet. Two treatises form the present volume, namely the Fundamentals of the Nyingma School and the History of the Nyingma School. Among the most widely read of all His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche's works, these treatises were composed during the years immediately following his arrival in India as a refugee. His intention in writing them was to preserve the precise structure of the Nyingma philosophical view within its own historical and cultural context. This is the first time this text has been available in a trade edition. Beautifully presented, this single-volume edition represents a truly wonderful gift, and features illustrations in black and white and in color, plus maps, bibliographic information, and useful annotations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tathagatagarbha — Buddha Nature — is a central concept of Mahayana Buddhism crucial to all the living practice traditions of Tibetan and Zen Buddhism. Its relationship to the concept of emptiness has been a subject of controversy for seven hundred years. Dr. Hookam's work investigates the divergent interpretations of these concepts and the way the Tibetan tradition is resolving them. In particular she does this with reference to the only surviving Indian commentary on the Tathagatagarbha doctrine, the Ratnagotravibhaga. This text addresses itself directly to the issue of how to relate the doctrine of emptiness (the illusory nature of the world) to that of the truly existing, changeless Absolute (the Buddha Nature). This is the first work by a Western writer to present an analysis of the Shentong tradition based on previously untranslated sources. The Shentong view rests on meditative experience that is inaccessible to the conceptualizing mind. It is deeply rooted in the sutra tradition of Indian Buddhism and is central to an understanding of the Mahamudra and Dzogchen traditions and Tantric practice among Kagyupas and Hyingmapas.
