Egged on by the promise of freedom, the animals unite and drive the Joneses out of the farm. Under the tutelage of the pigs, all the farm animals build a world where they are free and equal. Until some become more equal than others. Does the dream of freedom become a nightmare of slavery? Book excerpt: 1984 AND ANIMAL FARM GEORGE ORWELL 1984: 1984 is a popular novel authored by British writer George Orwell and published in year 1949. The story of 1984 is set in an imaginary place called Airstrip One. This Airstrip One is actually the Britain. The system of governance in this territory is one oligarchy by inert elites of dictator government. This kind of social-scientific socialism is known by the name of Ingsoc in a language invented and patronized by the totalitarianist government. However, this new invented language is pretty much off the regular or popular one's still its name sounds logically right being simply called newspeak. Airstrip One which is a territory of greater state of Oceania offers similar living conditions (personal and Social) to the one offered by the greater Oceania or rest of the world. Personal thinking has been made a crime and omnipresent government surveillance, thought manipulation, and perpetual war are common traits found in a territory. ANIMAL FARM: A highly claimed novel penned by George Orwell that largely focuses on the Russian revolution and the consequences followed thereafter. Animal Farm's success can be understood by the facts that the book has been placed at the highest spots once and again throughout the later 20th century and also in the early 21st.

Book excerpt: THE BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU Written in 1948, 1984 was George Orwell's chilling prophecy about the future. And while 1984 has come and gone, his dystopian vision of a government that will do anything to control the narrative is timelier than ever... Winston Smith toes the Party line, rewriting history to satisfy the demands of the Ministry of Truth. With each lie he writes, Winston grows to hate the Party that seeks power for its own sake and persecutes those who dare to commit thoughtcrimes. But as he starts to think for himself, Winston can't escape the fact that Big Brother is always watching... A startling and haunting vision of the world, 1984 is so powerful that it is completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the influence of this novel, its hold on the imaginations of multiple generations of readers, or the resiliency of its admonitions—a legacy that seems only to grow with the passage of time.

He was a man of strong opinions who addressed some of the major political movements of his times, including imperialism, fascism and communism. Animal Farm was published in 1945 when Orwell, a democratic socialist, was angered at Joseph Stalin for betraying the ideas of the Russian Revolution. In fact, that is the basis of Orwell's book. The characters in Animal Farm resemble significant people that impacted the Russian Revolution. These characters act similarly to the real people and actions that were done in the past. Through this book, George Orwell exposes Stalin's true nature and evils using a corrupt pig named Napoleon that eventually dictates the farm. Animal Farm is one of the most influential political texts ever written.

Book excerpt: George Orwell’s 1984, which tells us about the dangers of totalitarianism, has become one of the most famous dystopias of the 20th century, along with Mikhail Zamyatin’s Us, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. What would happen if the establishment became obsessed with ideas of fascism and dictatorship? What would society look like if the government demanded absolute submission from its citizens? What disaster could unfold in a world like this? The fable-parable Animal Farm is full of bitter sarcasm and political satire. Those living on the farm represent the worst human vices, and the farm itself becomes the symbol of totalitarian society. How will they survive – the animals, being prepared for the slaughter?

Book excerpt: "Animal Farm" is the most famous by far of all twentieth-century political allegories. Its account of a group of barnyard animals who revolt against their vicious human master, only to submit to a tyranny erected by their own kind, can fairly be said to have become a universal drama. Orwell is one of the very few modern satirists comparable to Jonathan Swift in power, artistry, and moral authority; in animal farm his spare prose and the logic of his dark comedy brilliantly highlight his stark message. Taking as his starting point the betrayed promise of the Russian Revolution, Orwell lays out a vision that, in its bitter wisdom, gives us the clearest understanding we possess of the possible consequences of our social and political acts.
