This easy to read and fun to use book explores it all. Includes coding conventions (e.g., surgical package, modifiers, editorial notations), hints (e.g., how to use HCPCS correctly and how to use it with CPT codes), secrets and tricks of the trade (e.g., special services and reports, number of follow-up days considered standard for each surgical service) and much more. This textbook is probably the most comprehensive of its kind in providing information on how to use the CPT coding book. More pages are dedicated to specific information on Evaluation and Management coding (e.g., office visits, consultations), surgical packages, HCPCS, modifiers and what to do and not to do than any other text. This textbook will significantly build your confidence, ability to code, and alleviate many tensions about taking any coding exam! All chapters are summarized . New for 2008 are Anesthesia and Test Taking Tips chapters. cpTeach is the oldest book in the industry, updated every year and developed by a former editor of the CPT book.

Imaging Informatics Professionals (IIPs) have come to play an indispensable role in modern medicine, and the scope of this profession has grown far beyond the boundaries of the PACS. A successful IIP must not only understand the PACS itself, but also have knowledge of clinical workflow, a base in several medical specialties, and a solid IT capability regarding software interactions and networking. With the introduction of a certification test for the IIP position, a single source was needed to explain the fundamentals of imaging informatics and to demonstrate how those fundamentals are applied in everyday practice. Practical Imaging Informatics describes the foundations of information technology and clinical image management, details typical daily operations, and discusses rarer complications and issues.

Book excerpt: One of the goals of artificial intelligence (AI) is creating autonomous agents that must make decisions based on uncertain and incomplete information. The goal is to design rational agents that must take the best action given the information available and their goals. Decision Theory Models for Applications in Artificial Intelligence: Concepts and Solutions provides an introduction to different types of decision theory techniques, including MDPs, POMDPs, Influence Diagrams, and Reinforcement Learning, and illustrates their application in artificial intelligence. This book provides insights into the advantages and challenges of using decision theory models for developing intelligent systems.

This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Failures at runtime in complex software systems are inevitable because these systems usually contain a large number of components. Having all components working perfectly at the same time is, if at all possible, very difficult. Hardware components can fail and software components can still have hidden faults waiting to be triggered at runtime and cause the system to fail. This dissertation proposes an architecture-aware online failure prediction approach, called Hora. The Hora approach improves online failure prediction by combining the results of failure prediction with the architectural knowledge about the system. The task of failure prediction is split into predicting the failure of each individual component, in contrast to predicting the whole system failure. Suitable prediction techniques can be employed for different types of components. The architectural knowledge is used to deduce the dependencies between components which can reflect how a failure of one component can affect the others. The failure prediction and the component dependencies are combined into one model which employs Bayesian network theory to represent failure propagation. The combined model is continuously updated at runtime and makes predictions for individual components, as well as inferring their effects on other components and the whole system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bayesian Networks in R with Applications in Systems Biology is unique as it introduces the reader to the essential concepts in Bayesian network modeling and inference in conjunction with examples in the open-source statistical environment R. The level of sophistication is also gradually increased across the chapters with exercises and solutions for enhanced understanding for hands-on experimentation of the theory and concepts. The application focuses on systems biology with emphasis on modeling pathways and signaling mechanisms from high-throughput molecular data. Bayesian networks have proven to be especially useful abstractions in this regard. Their usefulness is especially exemplified by their ability to discover new associations in addition to validating known ones across the molecules of interest. It is also expected that the prevalence of publicly available high-throughput biological data sets may encourage the audience to explore investigating novel paradigms using the approaches presented in the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing inter-disciplinary field with a long and distinguished history that involves many countries and considerably pre-dates the development of computers. It can be traced back at least as far as Ancient Greece and has evolved over time to become a major subfield of computer science in general. This state-of-the-art survey not only serves as a "position paper" on the field from the viewpoint of expert members of the IFIP Technical Committee 12, its Working Groups and their colleagues, but also presents overviews of current work in different countries. The chapters describe important relatively new or emerging areas of work in which the authors are personally involved, including text and hypertext categorization; autonomous systems; affective intelligence; AI in electronic healthcare systems; artifact-mediated society and social intelligence design; multilingual knowledge management; agents, intelligence and tools; intelligent user profiling; and supply chain business intelligence. They provide an interesting international perspective on where this significant field is going at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century.

The purpose is to provide speech pathologists and other health professionals with a comprehensive resource to improve the conversational skills of communication partners of people with TBI, and also to provide conversational skills training for people with TBI directly to improve everyday communication skills. The manual is divided into four sections:Section 1 outlines the background of the manuals, research and training programs. Section 2 contains information on preparation required for the two programs. Section 3 contains the program for Everyday Communication Partners (ECP) which is divided into seven modules over 10 sessions. Each module is divided into pre-session preparation (aims, resources to bring, what to do before, during and after the session), and appendices including participant and home work handouts). Section 4 contains the program for people with TBI who attend treatment without a communication partner and is also divided into seven modules over 10 sessions. It is also divided into pre-session preparation (aims, resources to bring, what to do before, during and after the session), and appendices (participant and home work handouts).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Socio-Economic Approach to Management (SEAM) is a management methodology for developing the sustainable performance of organizations. It finds its roots in a socially responsible vision of capitalism and its originality is to offer a unique management model useful for sustainably managing people and providing socially responsible consulting, as well as for carrying out research-interventions and creating knowledge. This book is the first to present in a synthetic way and illustrate with case studies the political, managerial and scientific dimensions of SEAM. This methodology has been successfully tested on thousands of companies and organizations from 48 different countries since 1974 and distinguished by prestigious French and American academies. It aims to convert the hidden costs of social dissatisfaction (absenteeism, excessive staff turnover, underproductivity) into economic value for the organization, which can be used to increase salaries, self-financed investments, master budgets or remunerate shareholders. It will be of great interest to students and scholars of management, as well as practitioners and consultants.
