Book Synopsis Like Angels on Jacob's Ladder by : Harvey J. Hames
Download or read book Like Angels on Jacob's Ladder written by Harvey J. Hames and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the career of Abraham Abulafia (ca. 1240–1291), self-proclaimed Messiah and founder of the school of ecstatic Kabbalah. Active in southern Italy and Sicily where Franciscans had adopted the apocalyptic teachings of Joachim of Fiore, Abulafia believed the end of days was approaching and saw himself as chosen by God to reveal the Divine truth. He appropriated Joachite ideas, fusing them with his own revelations, to create an apocalyptic and messianic scenario that he was certain would attract his Jewish contemporaries and hoped would also convince Christians. From his focus on the centrality of the Tetragrammaton (the four letter ineffable Divine name) to the date of the expected redemption in 1290 and the coming together of Jews and Gentiles in the inclusiveness of the new age, Abulafia's engagement with the apocalyptic teachings of some of his Franciscan contemporaries enriched his own worldview. Though his messianic claims were a result of his revelatory experiences and hermeneutical reading of the Torah, they were, to no small extent, dependent on his historical circumstances and acculturation.
Book Synopsis Injection Mold Design Engineering by : David O. Kazmer
Download or read book Injection Mold Design Engineering written by David O. Kazmer and published by Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH Co KG. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a vision and structure to finally synergize all the engineering disciplines that converge in the mold design process. The book provides very pragmatic analysis with worked examples that can be readily adapted to "real world" mold design applications. It should help students and practitioners to understand the inner workings of injection molds and encourage them to think "outside the box" in developing innovative and highly functional mold designs. Contents: · Introduction to mold functions, types, and components · Review of design for injection molding · Cost estimation and optimization · Mold layout design including cavity layout, sizing, and materials selection · Cavity, runner system, and gating analysis and design · Cooling system analysis and design · Venting, shrinkage, and warpage analysis and strategies · Ejection force analysis and ejection system designs · Stress and deflection analysis with structural system designs · A survey of advanced mold designs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1980s, metaphor has received much attention in linguistics in general. Within Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) the area of 'grammatical metaphor' has become increasingly more important. This volume aims to raise and debate problematic issues in the study of lexico-grammatical metaphor, and to foreground the potential of further study in the field. There is a need to highlight the SFL perspective on metaphor; other traditions focus on lexical aspects, and from cognitive perspectives, while SFL focuses on the grammatical dimension, and socio-functional aspects in the explanation of this phenomenon.

Book Synopsis Lifestyle Migration by : Michaela Benson
Download or read book Lifestyle Migration written by Michaela Benson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relatively affluent individuals from various corners of the globe are increasingly choosing to migrate, spurred on by the promise of a better and more fulfilling way of life within their destination. Despite its increasing scale, migration academics have yet to consolidate and establish lifestyle migration as a subfield of theoretical enquiry, until now. This volume offers a dynamic and holistic analysis of contemporary lifestyle migrations, exploring the expectations and aspirations which inform and drive migration alongside the realities of life within the destination. It also recognizes the structural conditions (and constraints) which frame lifestyle migration, laying the groundwork for further intellectual enquiry. Through rich empirical case studies this volume addresses this important and increasingly common form of migration in a manner that will interest scholars of mobility, migration, lifestyle and culture across the social sciences.

Book Synopsis The Mathematics of Marriage by : John M. Gottman
Download or read book The Mathematics of Marriage written by John M. Gottman and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2005-01-14 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divorce rates are at an all-time high. But without a theoretical understanding of the processes related to marital stability and dissolution, it is difficult to design and evaluate new marriage interventions. The Mathematics of Marriage provides the foundation for a scientific theory of marital relations. The book does not rely on metaphors, but develops and applies a mathematical model using difference equations. The work is the fulfillment of the goal to build a mathematical framework for the general system theory of families first suggested by Ludwig Von Bertalanffy in the 1960s.The book also presents a complete introduction to the mathematics involved in theory building and testing, and details the development of experiments and models. In one "marriage experiment," for example, the authors explored the effects of lowering or raising a couple's heart rates. Armed with their mathematical model, they were able to do real experiments to determine which processes were affected by their interventions. Applying ideas such as phase space, null clines, influence functions, inertia, and uninfluenced and influenced stable steady states (attractors), the authors show how other researchers can use the methods to weigh their own data with positive and negative weights. While the focus is on modeling marriage, the techniques can be applied to other types of psychological phenomena as well.
