This book was released on 2015 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treating obesity and its consequences is currently estimated to cost the NHS £5.1bn every year. It is one of the risk factors for type 2 diabetes, which accounts for spending of £8.8 billion a year, almost 9% of the NHS budget. The wider costs of obesity to society are estimated to be around three times this amount. By contrast, the UK spends only around £638 million on obesity prevention programmes. The evidence shows that information campaigns aimed at promoting healthier choices generally tend to help those who are already engaged with health, and may therefore only serve to widen health inequalities. Recommendations were made in nine different areas. No one single area offers a solution in itself, but there is a strong case for implementing changes in all of these areas. They are: strong controls on price promotions of unhealthy food and drink; tougher controls on marketing and advertising of unhealthy food and drink; a centrally led reformulation programme to reduce sugar in food and drink; a sugary drinks tax on full sugar soft drinks with all proceeds targeted to help those children at greatest risk of obesity; labelling of single portions of products with added sugar to show sugar content in teaspoons; improved education and information about diet; universal school food standards; greater powers for local authorities to tackle the environment leading to obesity; early intervention and further research into the most effective interventions. If the Government fails to act, the problem will become far worse

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Heart of ACT, renowned acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) trainer Robyn Walser explores ACT as a process-based therapy incorporating interpersonal, intrapersonal, and overarching and ongoing processes, as well as the integration of six core components of psychological flexibility to connect clinicians to the dynamic and relational implementation of ACT. Engaging clinical scenarios, therapeutic insights, and supervision dialogues are offered to help clinicians move beyond their conceptual understanding of ACT principles to master the nuances of the therapeutic relationship at the heart of ACT. Using the tips and strategies in this professional guide, you’ll develop a flexible, grounded, and client-centered practice. With this comprehensive resource, you’ll learn to cultivate an organic, process-driven practice, grounded in the heart of the therapeutic relationship and responsive to clients in the moment. The Heart of ACT is designed to mimic the supervision experience by presenting material in thought-provoking chapters grounded in real-life clinical situations and challenges. In the book, you’ll also find supervision dialogues inspired by Walser's work with her supervisees, Carlton Coulter and Manuela O’Connell. Carlton and Manuela comment and ask questions related to the material in the book and their own ACT learning process. These are then addressed by Walser in a dialogue designed to assist clinicians in connecting to the material. These sections mimic the helpful mentoring process of one-on-one training and supervision, and offer insights into specific therapeutic challenges that can unfold in structured conversation. As the applications of ACT grow, so does the need for up-to-date professional resources. Unlike many advanced ACT books that focus on procedures and techniques, The Heart of ACT focuses on the heart of the therapeutic relationship, as well as the “soft skills” that are difficult to describe, but which often mark the difference between a merely good clinician and an excellent one. If you’re looking to take your ACT delivery to a new, exciting level, this book is a must-have addition to your professional library.

Book excerpt: An essential roadmap to help you feel more confident, clear, and intentional in your goals—at every stage of your career and life Early in her career, Shanna Hocking tried to do everything “right”: She spoke up in meetings, supported colleagues' strategies, and raised her hand for new projects. Though her enthusiasm helped her get ahead in some ways, pushback from others nearly derailed her: Who did she think she was? She shouldn't be so "out there." She should "take it down a bit." What happened next is a situation all too many professional women will recognize: Shanna began to internalize the comments, second-guessing herself and holding herself back to make others comfortable. It took a long time—years, in fact—before she was able to see what she was doing and regain the power of being her best self. In One Bold Move a Day, Shanna reveals the transformative mindsets that helped her regain that power, and offers a practical, hands-on roadmap to achieving your own goals with intention and joy. More than just a career guide, One Bold Move a Day shows you how a single, measurable act each day will help you fulfill your potential, both personally and professionally. Shanna offers hard-won advice and insights gleaned from 20 years as a successful manager leading large teams in billion-dollar non-profit organizations and a leadership consultant to universities and companies, in chapters that include: Bold Mindset Shifts Achieving Your Goals The Power of Uplifting Others Lead from Where You Are Be the Boss Everyone Wants to Work For Your Bold Move Community Putting Your Bold Move Mindset to the Test No matter how small or inconsequential they may seem to others, the Bold Moves you choose bring you closer to your goals every day—and have the power to change the trajectory of your personal life and career. In the pages of this book, you'll find the support you need, and see that the best time to start making Bold Moves is right here, right now.

Book excerpt: NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE NEW YORKER, AND VOGUE “Bennett writes like no one else. She is a rare talent, and Checkout 19 is a masterful novel.” –Karl Ove Knausgaard From the author of the “dazzling. . . . and daring” Pond (O magazine), the adventures of a young woman discovering her own genius, through the people she meets–and dreams up–along the way. In a working-class town in a county west of London, a schoolgirl scribbles stories in the back pages of her exercise book, intoxicated by the first sparks of her imagination. As she grows, everything and everyone she encounters become fuel for a burning talent. The large Russian man in the ancient maroon car who careens around the grocery store where she works as a checkout clerk, and slips her a copy of Beyond Good and Evil. The growing heaps of other books in which she loses–and finds–herself. Even the derailing of a friendship, in a devastating violation. The thrill of learning to conjure characters and scenarios in her head is matched by the exhilaration of forging her own way in the world, the two kinds of ingenuity kindling to a brilliant conflagration. Exceeding the extraordinary promise of Bennett’s mold-shattering debut, Checkout 19 is a radical affirmation of the power of the imagination and the magic escape those who master it open to us all.

Book excerpt: The Right to Food Guidelines provide practical guidance on ways to implement the right to adequate food in a wide range of policy and programmes areas through a human rights-based approach. Since the adoption of the Right to Food Guidelines, FAO and its partners have produced a wealth of tools, strengthened capacity, and facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogues worldwide. But the goal of realizing the right to food of everyone is not accomplished yet- over 820 million people are currently suffering from chronic hunger. This fifteen-Year Retrospective on the Right to Food Guidelines helps us look back and understand what has worked and why, where the bottlenecks lie, and how governments and their partners can be most effective in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
