Download or read book 1 John written by Wendy Blight and published by HarperChristian Resources. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons from the letter of 1 John: understand the fullness of God's love and how it's meant to be lived out. More than any other New Testament writer, John wrote about love. He was one of Jesus' closest disciples, and his first letter is both challenging and comforting—but, ultimately, it's about living out (and living into) God's unconditional, extravagant, lavish love. In this Bible study, Wendy Blight walks you through 1 John, taking you deeper into an understanding of God's love and what that love means for you, daily... "I always knew in my head God loved me. But it wasn't until I opened the pages of 1 John that I truly experienced His love down to the depths of my soul. Exposing my heart to God's love through John's eyes transformed my heart and life in ways I could never have imagined." —Wendy. This study will help you: Develop a more intimate understanding of God's love. Transform your attitude and actions into reflections of God. Identify and discern God's truth from false teaching. Confront barriers keeping you from experiencing God's complete love. Boldly and confidently walk as a woman loved. Study guide includes biblical and historical background insights, practical application, group discussion questions, and a memory verse for each chapter. Perfect for both individuals or small groups. Inscribed is a collection of studies that lead women to not just survive but thrive by encouraging them to immerse themselves in the Word of God.

Book Synopsis 1, 2, and 3 John by : Karen H. Jobes
Download or read book 1, 2, and 3 John written by Karen H. Jobes and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2014-02-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concentrate on the biblical author's message as it unfolds. Designed to assist the pastor and Bible teacher in conveying the significance of God's Word, the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament series treats the literary context and structure of every passage of the New Testament book in the original Greek. With a unique layout designed to help you comprehend the form and flow of each passage, the ZECNT unpacks: The key message. The author's original translation. An exegetical outline. Verse-by-verse commentary. Theology in application. While primarily designed for those with a basic knowledge of biblical Greek, all who strive to understand and teach the New Testament will benefit from the depth, format, and scholarship of these volumes. 1-3 John In her commentary on John's letters, Karen H. Jobes writes to bridge the distance between academic biblical studies and pastors, students, and laypeople who are looking for an in-depth treatment of the issues raised by these New Testament books. She approaches the three letters of John as part of the corpus that includes John’s gospel, while rejecting an elaborate redactional history of that gospel that implicates the letters. Jobes treats three major themes of the letters under the larger rubric of who has the authority to interpret the true significance of Jesus, an issue that is pressing in our religiously pluralistic society today with its many voices claiming truth about God.

Download or read book That You May Know written by Christopher David Bass and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2008 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth book of the New American Commentary Studies in Bible & Theology series, That You May Know closely examines the theme of eternal salvation in 1 John. No other New Testament book speaks as frequently and explicitly to the believer's confidence in everlasting life. The epistle writer grounds his reader's assurance of salvation on the person and work of Jesus Christ and demonstrates that the believer's lifestyle serves as a vital corroborating support for that assurance. This gives the commentary's author Christopher Bass an opening to further discuss John's emphasis on living righteously and what it truly means to be born of God. Users will find this an excellent extension of the long-respected New American Commentary series.

Book Synopsis Atonement and Ethics in 1 John by : Christopher Armitage
Download or read book Atonement and Ethics in 1 John written by Christopher Armitage and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-06-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Armitage considers previous theological perception of 1 John as a text advocating that God abhors violence, contrasted with biblical scholarship analysis that focuses upon the text's birth from hostile theological conflict between 'insiders' and 'outsiders', with immensely hostile rhetoric directed towards 'antichrists' and those who have left the community. Armitage argues that a peace-oriented reading of 1 John is still viable, but questions if the commandment that the community loves each other is intended to include their opponents, and whether the text can be of hermeneutic use to advocate non-violence and love of one's neighbour. This book examines five key words from 1 John, hilasmos, sfazo, anthropoktonos, agape and adelphos, looking at their background and use in the Old Testament in both Hebrew and the LXX, arguing that these central themes presuppose a God whose engagement with the world is not assuaging divine anger, nor ferocious defence of truth at the expense of love, but rather peace and avoidance of hatred that inevitably leads to violence and death. Armitage concludes that a peacemaking hermeneutic is not only viable, but integral to reading the epistle.
