Book Synopsis The German Mittelweg by : Michael G. Lee
Download or read book The German Mittelweg written by Michael G. Lee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1790s, a close-knit group of German philosophers published several garden theory texts. These works are unique in that a close-knit group of philosophers had never before--and has not since--produced so many works on the topic of garden design. In essence, this cohort sought to imbue the most visionary concepts that had been inherited from the German garden tradition with the intellectual resources that were newly available through Kant’s critical philosophy. The most important of these concepts was the prescription for a new Mittelweg, or "middle path," garden that would mediate between the perceived excesses of French formalism and the English picturesque. In close analysis, the author demonstrates that Kant used similar "middle path" techniques in the design of his own "critical path" between dogmatism and skepticism. This similarity is most apparent when he uses topographical metaphors to describe the organizational principles of his system. By interpreting Kant’s topographical metaphors in relation to contemporary garden theories, this book offers new insights into the structural similarities between his "critical path" and the German garden’s "middle path" between French formalism and the English picturesque.

Download or read book Incense and the scent of roses written by Angela Bauer and published by novum publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julia is a Catholic theologian and is familiar with life in the Middle East. After a divorce and economic collapse, she earns her living as a tour guide. In the early 1990s, she sets off with a group to the great sandy desert in the south of the Arabian Peninsula. Wind and sand shape the journey and what animates the evening conversations: there is talk of a festival. Many things were planned that could not be realized because a grandson suddenly went into a monastery, because a daughter fell ill, because a wall was built overnight in Berlin ... Julia talks frankly about her mistakes, about the doubt about the church that determines her life, about the lust that drives her and her love, because someone she knows from her student days unexpectedly travels with her.

Download or read book Trauma and art written by Rut and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extraordinary book documents the therapeutic journey taken by Rut, a childhood victim of sexual abuse, from her suppressed childhood pain to her artistic expression of the trauma. Her pictorial work created during her psychotherapy enables her in her speechlessness and depression to recapture the story of her childhood, and, in dialogues with her psychotherapist, to integrate it into her everyday life. Rut's pictures and texts give direct evidence of the trauma of sexual abuse; they make it perceptible, arouse empathy, demonstrate its psychological consequences, and at the same time show a way to work through the trauma. In the second part of the book, the two co-authors, both psychotherapists, discuss the creative process and pictorial work in an art-therapeutic and scientific setting, thus establishing a theoretical background. This book delineates part of Rut's psychological healing process, and is of great interest to professionals and students in psychology, psychotherapy, psychiatry and medicine, as well as art therapy, education, social work and spiritual counseling.
