Book Synopsis A History of New England, Volume 1 by : Isaac Backus
Download or read book A History of New England, Volume 1 written by Isaac Backus and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-03 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A historian who has been an actor in the events which he narrates, has peculiar advantages and disadvantages. He can write with more minuteness of detail, and with a fresher and more life-like coloring. He can write with more confidence, and, drawing from his own experience and observation, is in this respect more trustworthy. On the other hand, he is more liable to be warped by prejudice, to see only the excellences and none of the defects of those with whom he has been identified, and only the defects and none of the excellences of those to whom he has been opposed, to be a partizan rather than a judge, and to make his narration little more than the reflection of his personal opinions or his personal sympathy and affection, hostility and spite. "The Church History of Isaac Backus has all the above-named excellences. To a large extent he was an eye-witness of that which he describes; and where not an eye-witness, he placed himself in closest possible connection with it by personal acquaintance with the actors, and by immediate and most diligent and thorough examination of records and other evidence. While it may be too much to say that he absolutely avoided the defects above named, yet his sound judgment, his natural candor and honesty and his elevated Christian principle, have made him as nearly free from them as perhaps any author who has written in similar circumstances." --from the Editor's Preface

Book Synopsis Divine Love by : Jeanne de la Mothe Guyon
Download or read book Divine Love written by Jeanne de la Mothe Guyon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, visual and poetic emblems of God's love, created by Otto van Veen and Jeanne Guyon, symbolically represent spiritual meaning and, as such, offer a gift of revealed strength and purpose to the aware reader. In our age, when love seems almost forgotten, this emblem book uniting Guyon's poetry and D'Othon Vaenius's illustrations give us a faithful look into what might be. What if Divine love becomes part of the human endeavor and joins to human souls? Otto van Veen and Jeanne de la Mothe Guyon internalized this hope and here reveal to us their vision of the love of God bonding and becoming one with the human soul. Translated into English for the first time here, these emblems of divine love become available to postmodern readers.

Book Synopsis Little Girl Black by : Cassandra Hudson
Download or read book Little Girl Black written by Cassandra Hudson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-05-25 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a work of fiction. Places, events, and situations in this story are purely fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is coincidental. Little Girl Black confronts colorism and the black sheep syndrome and the many shades it comes in. That old saying don’t judge a book by its cover—I say open the book up and slowly read the literature in side, cover to cover, before forming an opinion. You may be pleasantly surprised on what you read. Bump what you hear, boss up, and form your own opinions. This book and all my Little Girl Black poetry books volumes 1 to 6 celebrate and confront dreams, religion, marriage, unfairness, sex, friendship, racism, strength, judgments, fantasy, love, education, families, power, and death, as well as many other situations. Life will sometimes come to you whether you’re looking for it or not. Here comes life kicking down your doors; it just walks in and puts its filthy feet up on your clean glass table, getting extremely comfortable, and you say to yourself, “What the hell is going on?” This is a good time to get down on your knees and give it all to the Lord, like in the play Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God. Please let him do his job, but take notes. Ding, ding! The school of life is in session. The black sheep syndrome is not because you’re an African American or black or brown. Yes, being racist or racism plays a big part when a whole race is condemned because of the pigment in their skin, but there are little girl blacks and little boy blacks in every race that lives in every family. No one can stop you from dreaming. Your dreams live in your heart, mind, body, and soul; so every time you close your eyes to dream a little dream, hum a little tune, or recite a little poem, stop and introduce yourself to your destiny and say, “Hello, I’m so please to finally meet you. I have been waiting for you.” Yes, colorism. Racism within our own race—we all play a part. I say no matter what shade of chocolate you may be, love yourself, live to be mature, and dream to succeed and achieve everything your little heart desires. Unfairness or jealousy and looking down upon someone for whatever reasons and sometimes no reasons at all, just because who you look like or who you belong to—this syndrome is taught and learned and follows that little girl black or little boy black for generations. I say to all of you bullies and dream-stealers, shame on you. You need to check yourself!
