For over ten years the foundation has been hosting our core programs for males, in addition to providing one on one support and ongoing programming in middle and high schools throughout the academic year. The Foundation’s core programs include: • boys2MEN Leadership Summit • boys2MEN Fall Workshop • Relationship Series • Career Exploration Workshops • One-to-One & Group Mentoring Our foundation has served over 4,500 males over the last ten years. The young men who participate in our programs become positive role models in their communities. They graduate from high school and go to college. Our class of 2017 achieved 100% high school graduation rates and 100% college acceptance rates. The foundation and individual leadership has received both national and local recognition as a part of the national ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ Initiative. We strive to create opportunities for mentorship for our participants. We connect participants with community mentors that become extensions of support in the lives of the young men. Additionally, our former participants become ambassadors and return to become mentors to the next generation, which has created a powerful pipeline of resources and success. It is our goal to expand this programming to a larger segment of our population. The needs in our communities are overwhelming. Your gifts help us provide valuable services and programming to low income, underrepresented and underserved males leading to the creation of sustainable growth for the future. We hope that you will become our partner in transforming lives. Please consider donating to this amazing cause: 2065 Uinta St Denver, Co 80238 https://crowleycollegeprep.com/donate/

Book Synopsis Five Points Neighborhood of Denver by : Laura M. Mauck
Download or read book Five Points Neighborhood of Denver written by Laura M. Mauck and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the 1870s, the word was out about Colorado. East coast and Midwest prospectors, European immigrants, and African Americans newly freed from slavery, rushed to Denver to find work and their fortune in silver and gold. Captured here in almost 200 vintage images is the story of the African Americans who escaped the oppression and racism of the post Civil War South, and created a city within a city: the Five Points neighborhood of Denver. Named in 1881 for a bustling five-way intersection, the Five Points area became the commercial and social sector for African American churches, businesses, clubs, and homes, and the heart of Denver's black community. Showcased here are the photographs of once thriving Five Points businesses in the Welton Street business district, such as Otha Rice's Tap Room and Oven and the Rossonian Hotel, as well as the familiar faces of the Cosmopolitan Club, Madame CJ Walker, and Dr. Justina Ford, Denver's first African-American female doctor.

Book excerpt: Imagine walking to the same place every day, to meet your best friend. Imagine watching hundreds of people pass by every morning and every afternoon. Imagine waiting, and waiting, and waiting. For ten years. This is what Hachiko did. Hachiko was a real dog who lived in Tokyo, a dog who faithfully waited for his owner at the Shibuya train station long after his owner could not come to meet him. He became famous for his loyalty and was adored by scores of people who passed through the station every day. This is Hachiko’s story through the eyes of Kentaro, a young boy whose life is changed forever by his friendship with this very special dog. Simply told, and illustrated with Yan Nascimbene’s lush watercolors, the legend of Hachiko will touch your heart and inspire you as it has inspired thousands all over the world.

Book excerpt: #1 BESTSELLER • The apocalyptic vision of a world blasted by plague and tangled in an elemental struggle between good and evil remains as riveting—and eerily plausible—as when it was first published. • The tie-in edition of the nine-part CBS All Access series starring Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgard, and James Marsden. A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge—Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious “Dark Man,” who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them—and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.

Book excerpt: The evidence is overwhelming: sports help girls grow into strong women. Both scientific studies and anecdotal evidence confirm that athletic girls not only grow up to be healthier; they learn teamwork, gain inner confidence, and grow into society's leaders. Sports help preteen and teenage girls make the right choices in a society that is sending them incredibly mixed messages about who they are supposed to be. Yet no one is speaking directly to these girls. Jennie fills the role of girlfriend, big sister, team captain, and mentor. A smart, credible, and accomplished voice from an athlete who is strong and feminine, fiercely competitive, and fashionably cool, Jennie is someone young women will listen to and take to heart. Jennie's message: Believe in yourself. Go for it, girls.
