Purchasers get access to a companion website where they can download and print these materials in a convenient 8 ½" x 11" size. Book excerpt: ULTIMATE PURPOSE This book is a collection of stories, which are fictitious, however like stories Beyond Belief book one, some of the characters are real and some situations can be believable. I will leave it to your own imagination which parts are factual and where I got most of the characters for my books, needless to say a lot of people I have either worked with or met over the years. The idea of 'Blood Trail' is to follow the life of a vampire who desires to be human again, after years of taking blood to survive she asks God to help her become a human and live a normal life once more. To achieve this she has to accomplish tasks and defeat the vampire that made her a vampire. The next story called Cracked Porcelain - Broken Wing and Lost Souls' follows the career and life of a psychiatric nurse called Ruth, her journey of life involves being involved with a murderous psychopath and finding her own comfort zone after childhood abuse. She is also discovering her own sexuality in an ever changing world where same sex relationships are just being excepted, with this and the shock of her friend Kathy discovering that she has cancer. Amidst all the dilemma her dead girl friend Pamela lurks in the shadows as a ghost watching over Ruth. The third story is about a guardian angel called Faith who in her efforts, helps a number of people in their life to survive many problems. Faith has to learn to understand humans in order to help them and so she lives amongst them for a while. But her adversary Dawn attempts to prevent from helping people and causes her harm, she eventually destroys Dawn and her wicked demons and is attacked by her sister Sonia in a desperate attempt to take over the earth. Now after the failed efforts to invade the earth, the demons try a more subtle approach to conquering the earth with a more intense style of evil warfare. Fiona is the latest demon to be sent to a prison to capture souls and recruit an army of demons that will rule the earth. A girl called Jodie has been chosen as the main target, she is in prison for murder and considered ideal to join Satan's army. Faith has to enter the prison in order to save her and prove that she can be a true guardian angel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reasoning About Actions and Plans discusses approaches to a number of the more challenging problems in reasoning about the future and forming plans of action to achieve their goals. Reasoning about actions and plans can be seen as fundamental to the development of intelligent machines that are capable of dealing effectively with real-world problems. This book comprises 17 chapters, with the first delving into the semantics of STRIPS. The following chapters then discuss a theory of plans; formulating multiagent, dynamic-world problems in the classical planning framework; and a representation of parallel activity based on events, structure, and causality. Other chapters cover branching regular expressions and multi-agent plans; a representation of action and belief for automatic planning systems; possible worlds planning; and intractability and time-dependent planning. The remaining chapters discuss goal structure, holding periods and "clouds"; a model of plan inference that distinguishes between the beliefs of actors and observers; persistence, intention, and commitment; the context-sensitivity of belief and desire; the doxastic theory of intention; an architecture for intelligent reactive systems; and abstract reasoning as emergent from concrete activity. This book will be of interest to practitioners in the fields of cognition and artificial intelligence.

My wife of three months less than fifty years was capable of accomplishing the extraordinary. She did so by finding the substance in the simple every day. Her quiet attention to the person, place, and event embraced and elevated those around her. Kathy's way of doing this was to know the person and let them shine. She did this by participating in their lives, dreams, and goals. What was important to another was important to her. Her story is worth knowing. We can learn from her, and we should learn from her as did I, a way of living that is a way of loving. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

Book excerpt: About the Book Will your life click away as a montage before your eyes when Death comes? Will it be a car wreck or cancer? Will Death appear to you as a skull-faced ghoul or avuncular guide? Rest assured, you will certainly meet him. Since humans became human, Death has harvested. Over the millennia, he has occasionally revealed himself to mortals. Nick, as a pre-teen, meets the specter after surviving a near miss. Throughout Nick’s life, Death appears on no set schedule, their conversations a mix of reveal and closely held answers to Nick’s questions: Is there a God? Is there any kind of life after death? How do you maintain such a nice tan? Nick’s search for answers continues throughout his life, at times an accepted reality, at others causing Nick debilitating pain and anger. As years tick away, Nick realizes the many cultural and spiritual differences in dealing with and accepting Death, leading him to a personal understanding that helps him cope. Nick’s story will bring hope to some, peace to many, and acceptance to most, as we all must ultimately face our own last goal. About the Author Michael O’Neal’s interest in death and dying has been there since childhood. As a teacher, he continued education in classes focused on suicide intervention, philosophy, cultural studies, and death and dying. An enlightening experience happened when he presented a salon class on death and dying at a women’s prison. A Native American woman confided in O’Neal that she’d had the Kubler-Ross experience of seeing the light. A master’s degree in multicultural education, international travel, and years of living overseas gave O’Neal adjusted perceptions of Death. Being run over as a kid, two close friends committing suicide, and assisting his brother with a dignified death, motivated O’Neal to write The Last Goal.

He draws his gun...on a young woman scrubbing his shower. Kathy often wondered about the cop whose house she cleaned. She just hadn't imagined him naked or pointing a gun at her. But, when he offers her a job while he recovers from an injury, she accepts. Though the physical attraction is mutual, their life plans are incompatible. Jake wants a stay-at-home wife, Kathy wants a career and is dead-set against marriage. For Jake, persuading Kathy to marry him will require compromise, the one skill this street cop has never mastered. Lucky Lady Case Hardin didn't recognize the blonde. Clearly, she was no amateur pool player. So, what did she want from him? Joey Duval was twelve when she met "Hard-Case" in the back room of her parents' pool hall. Stricken with puppy-love, she taught him her secret trick-shot in exchange for a favor. Since then, the awkward girl became a beautiful woman and Case left the world of competitive pool behind. But Joey never forgot her interlude with the legendary shooter or his promise. And now, thirteen years later, she's ready to collect. Publisher Note: These two fun-filled, romantic comedies contain mild profanity and steamy sex that will be enjoyed by adult readers of sexy, humorous romance. "Splashes of humor in this sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy romance make for a fun, fast read." ~Book Nook "Marilyn Campbell stirs up a thoroughly entertaining, lighthearted story with plenty of steamy romance when she mixes the game of pool with a hot guy hiding from his past and an ambitious gal seeking revenge." ~Rendezvous Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year more than 2 million Americans get divorced, and most of them use a lawyer. In closed-door conversations between lawyers and their clients strategy is planned, tactics are devised, and the emotional climate of the divorce is established. Do lawyers contribute to the pain and emotional difficulty of divorce by escalating demands and encouraging unreasonable behavior? Do they take advantage of clients at a time of emotional difficulty? Can and should clients trust their lawyers to look out for their welfare and advance their long-term interests? Austin Sarat and William L. F. Felstiner's new book, based on a pioneering and intensive study of actual conferences between divorce lawyers and their clients, provides an unprecedented behind-the-scenes description of the lawyer-client relationship, and calls into question much of the conventional wisdom about what divorce lawyers actually do. Divorce Lawyers and Their Clients suggests that most divorces are marked less by a pattern of aggressive advocacy than by one of inaction and drift. It uncovers reasons why lawyers find divorce practice frustrating and difficult and why clients frequently feel dissatisfied with their lawyers. This new work provides a unique perspective on the dynamics of professionalism. It charts the complex and shifting ways lawyers and clients "negotiate" their relationship as they work out the strategy and tactics of divorce. Sarat and Felstiner show how both lawyers and clients are able to draw on resources of power to set the agenda of their interaction, while neither one is fully in charge. Rather, power shifts between the two parties; where it is achieved, power is found in the ability to have one's understandings of the social and legal worlds of divorce accepted. Power then works through the creation of shared meanings. Divorce Lawyers and Their Clients examines the effort to create such shared meanings about the nature of marriage and why marriages fail, the operation of the legal process, and the best way to bring divorces to closure. It will be fascinating reading for anyone who is going through a divorce, or has gone through one, as well as for lawyers, judges, and scholars of law and society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unheard Witness foregrounds a young woman’s experience of domestic abuse, resistance, and survival before the mass shooting at the University of Texas at Austin in 1966. In 1966, Kathy Leissner Whitman was a twenty-three-year-old teacher dreaming of a better future. She was an avid writer of letters, composing hundreds in the years before she was stabbed to death by her husband, Charles Whitman, who went on to commit a mass shooting from the tower at the University of Texas at Austin. Kathy’s writing provides a rare glimpse of how one woman described, and sought to change, her short life with a coercive, controlling, and violent partner. Unheard Witness provides a portrait of Kathy’s life, doing so at a time when Americans are slowly grasping the link between domestic abuse and mass shootings. Public violence often follows violence in the home, yet such private crimes continue to be treated separately and even erased in the public imagination. Jo Scott-Coe shows how Kathy's letters go against the grain of the official history, which ignored Kathy’s perspective. With its nuanced understanding of abuse and survival, Unheard Witness is an intimate, real-time account of trust and vulnerability—in its own way, a prologue to our age of atrocities.
