Book excerpt: Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy documents the proceedings of the second International Conference held at the University of Sheffield, U.K between July 14 and 18, 1969. This compilation deals with all aspects of atomic absorption spectroscopy, focusing on fundamental developments, metallurgical and biological applications of atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic fluorescence spectroscopy, developments in instrumentation, theoretical aspects, and chemical and physical interference effects. The analytical flame atomic emission spectroscopy and development of non-flame sample cells for atomic spectroscopy are also considered. Other topics include the behavior of certain elements in the absorption tube and progress in atomic absorption spectroscopy employing flame and graphite cuvette techniques. This book is a good source for students, specialists, and researchers conducting work on atomic absorption spectroscopy.

Book Synopsis Developments in Applied Spectroscopy by : E. L. Grove
Download or read book Developments in Applied Spectroscopy written by E. L. Grove and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 7 of Developments in Applied Spectroscopy is a collection of forty-two papers selected from those that were presented at the 7th National Meeting of the Society of Applied Spectroscopy, held (in place of the 19th Mid-America Symposium on Spectroscopy) in Chicago, May 13-17, 1968. These papers, selected by the editors and reviewed by persons knowledgeable in the field, are those of the symposium type and not those pertaining to specific research topics that one would expect to be submitted to a journal. It is the opinion of the committee that this type of publication has an important place in the literature. The relatively large number of papers would result in quite a sizable volume if bound in one set of covers. For this reason, and to present the material in areas of more specific mterest, Volume 7 was divided into two parts, Part A, Physical-Inorganic, and Part B, Physical-Organic Developments. The 7th National Meeting was sponsored by the Chicago Section as host in cooperation with the St. Louis, New England, Penn York, Niagara-Frontier, Cincinnati, Ohio Valley, New York, Baltimore-Washington, North Texas, Rocky Mountain, and Southeastern Sections of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and the Chicago Gas Chromatography Group. The editors wish to express their appreciation to the authors and to those who helped with the reviewing. The latter include Dr. Elma Lanterman, Mr. John E. Forrette, Dr. Carl Moore, Dr. B. Jaselskis, Mr. H. G. Zelinski, Mr.
Book Synopsis Analytical Chemistry in Space by : Richard E. Wainerdi
Download or read book Analytical Chemistry in Space written by Richard E. Wainerdi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Chemistry in Space presents an analysis of the chemical constitution of space, particularly the particles in the solar wind, of the planetary atmospheres, and the surfaces of the moon and planets. Topics range from space engineering considerations to solar system atmospheres and recovered extraterrestrial materials. Mass spectroscopy in space exploration is also discussed, along with lunar and planetary surface analysis using neutron inelastic scattering. This book is comprised of seven chapters and opens with a discussion on the possibilities for exploration of the solar system by mass spectroscopy, with particular reference to analysis of compositional data on solar system objects such as the Earth and meteorites, asteroids, comets, and interplanetary dust. The reader is then introduced to the project administration, instrument design, and spacecraft integration problems that must be solved to successfully fly a space experiment. The following chapters focus on the atmospheres of the sun and planets; the use of mass spectroscopy in solar system exploration and of neutron inelastic scattering in lunar and planetary surface analysis; and extraterrestrial in situ 14 MeV neutron activation analysis. The final chapter is devoted to the advantages and applications of thermal neutron activation to the analysis of certain samples of geological interest. This monograph will be a useful resource for analytical chemists and space scientists.

Book Synopsis Some Aspects of Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation Physics by : Nicole Damany
Download or read book Some Aspects of Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation Physics written by Nicole Damany and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some Aspects of Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation Physics presents some data on the state of research in vacuum ultraviolet radiation in association with areas of physics. Organized into four parts, this book begins by elucidating the optical properties of solids in the vacuum ultraviolet region (v.u.v.), particularly the specific methods of determination of optical constants in v.u.v., the properties of metals, and those of ionic insulators. Part II deals with molecular spectroscopy, with emphasis on the spectra of diatomic and simple polyatomic molecules, paraffins, and condensed phases. Part III focuses on some aspects of emission spectroscopy in the v.u.v. in relation to laboratory plasmas. The last part describes the image formation by concave gratings, spectrophotometry, and diffusion by surfaces. This book will be very valuable to physicist and graduate students inclined to this field of interest.
