Book Synopsis Wellness Tourism by : Cornelia Voigt
Download or read book Wellness Tourism written by Cornelia Voigt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Core values of society, health and wellbeing impact today on all aspects of our lives, and have also increasingly influenced patterns of tourism consumption and production. In this context wellness has developed into a significant dimension of tourism in a number of new and long established destinations. However, although it is consistently referred to as one of the most rapidly growing forms of tourism worldwide there still remains a dearth of academic literature on this topic. This book uniquely focuses on the supply side of wellness tourism from a destination perspective in terms of the generation and delivery of products and services for tourists who seek to maintain and improve their health. This approach provides a better understanding of how wellness tourism destinations develop and explores the specific drivers of that growth in a destination context and how destinations successfully compete against each other in globalised market place. A range of wellness destination development and management issues are examined including the importance of authenticity, an appropriate policy framework, delivery of high quality goods and services, participation of a broad range of stakeholders and the development of networks and clusters as well as collaborative strategies essential for a successful development and management of a wellness tourism destination. International case studies and examples from established and new wellness tourism destinations are integrated throughout. This timely volume written by leaders in this sector will be of interest to tourism and hospitality students and academics internationally.
Download or read book Coronary Pressure written by N.H. Pijls and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiologists must answer three important questions when evaluating and treating patients with a coronary artery stenosis. As a physiologist: "What is the effect of this stenosis on coronary blood flow and myocardial function?"; as a clinician: " Is this lesion responsible for the patient's symptoms?"; and finally as an interventionalist: "Will revascularization of this artery improve the patient?" Fundamentally, the answer to these questions can be given to a large extent by measuring coronary pressure. That is the rationale of writing this book. 1. 1 Historical overview. Andreas Gruentzig and most interventional cardiologists in the early days of PTCA, had the intuitive feeling that pressure measurements could help to establish the severity of a coronary stenosis and to monitor the progress and result of a coronary intervention. At that time, measuring coronary pressure by the balloon catheter was part of a standard procedure. A residual transstenotic gradient of less than 15 mmHg was generally considered as a good result. Later, however, it turned out that measuring these (resting) gradients with balloon catheters was inaccurate an only had a limited prognostic value. Moreover, because there was no consistent theory to correlate pressure measurements to blood flow, the interest in measuring coronary pressures faded and disappeared almost completely with the introduction of new balloon catheters not intended for pressure measurement.

Book Synopsis Technology and Terrorism by : Paul Wilkinson
Download or read book Technology and Terrorism written by Paul Wilkinson and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does modern technology tilt the balance in favour of the terrorists in their constant battle to defeat the efforts of counter-terrorist agencies, or vice versa? How can we assess the feasibility and probability of terrorists in certain circumstances resorting to nuclear, chemical or biological weapons? Bearing in mind that terrorists have already resorted to mass murder in the form of sabotage bombing of airliners, tragically demonstrated in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, how effective have the aviation authorities been in using technology and other measures to combat this threat?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 5th edition of this best-selling textbook provides a systematic and comprehensive introduction to the main theoretical approaches in the study of international relations. While maintaining focus on the core theories and assessing the importance of theory in the study of International Relations, this edition has been updated throughout to take account of major events and developments, such as the Arab Spring and to reflect the developments in the field, including new material on neo-realism and neo-liberalism, post-colonialism and cosmopolitanism. Each chapter is written by a leading expert on the theory, elucidating the concepts and its application to field coverage whilst maintaining an objective perspective in their evaluations. This text can be used as reference work for particular theories, or as a tool to learn the use and importance of theory, as well as the particulars of each school of thought. This text is accessible to students on courses across the world, and it assumes no prior knowledge of any of the theories, making it the ideal companion as students begin studying theories of International Relations, whether at undergraduate or Master's level.
