Book Synopsis The Kingdom according to Luke and Acts by : Karl Allen Kuhn
Download or read book The Kingdom according to Luke and Acts written by Karl Allen Kuhn and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This substantial, reliable introduction examines the character and purpose of Luke and Acts and provides a thorough yet economical treatment of Luke's social, historical, and literary context. Karl Allen Kuhn presents Luke's narrative as a "kingdom story" that both announces the arrival of God's reign in Jesus and describes the ministry of the early church, revealing the character of the kingdom as dramatically at odds with the kingdom of Rome. Kuhn explores the background, literary features, plotting, and themes of Luke and Acts but also offers significant, fresh insights into the persuasive force of Luke's impressively crafted and rhetorically charged narrative.

The seed for Transforming Moments with God sprouts in the soil of the Scriptures. As the author notes, “... as we behold the Lord’s glory—as reflected in the Scriptures—we are progressively transformed into the likeness of that same glory by the work of the Holy Spirit!” By using the entries in Transforming Moments with God: Ninety Devotions to Strengthen Your Relationship with God, you will enter into His awesome presence, enjoy fellowship with Him, and bolster your relationship with Him. The discipline of committing at least ten minutes to daily communion with God will provide you with a habit to help you overcome the day’s demands and withstand the distractions that life’s busyness places in your path of discipleship.
Book Synopsis Hans Urs von Balthasar and the Critical Appropriation of Russian Religious Thought by : Jennifer Newsome Martin
Download or read book Hans Urs von Balthasar and the Critical Appropriation of Russian Religious Thought written by Jennifer Newsome Martin and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Hans Urs von Balthasar and the Critical Appropriation of Russian Religious Thought, Jennifer Newsome Martin offers the first systematic treatment and evaluation of the Swiss Catholic theologian’s complex relation to modern speculative Russian religious philosophy. Her constructive analysis proceeds through Balthasar’s critical reception of Vladimir Soloviev, Nicholai Berdyaev, and Sergei Bulgakov with respect to theological aesthetics, myth, eschatology, and Trinitarian discourse and examines how Balthasar adjudicates both the possibilities and the limits of theological appropriation, especially considering the degree to which these Russian thinkers have been influenced by German Idealism and Romanticism. Martin argues that Balthasar’s creative reception and modulation of the thought of these Russian philosophers is indicative of a broad speculative tendency in his work that deserves further attention. In this respect, Martin consciously challenges the prevailing view of Balthasar as a fundamentally conservative or nostalgic thinker. In her discussion of the relation between tradition and theological speculation, Martin also draws upon the understudied relation between Balthasar and F. W. J. Schelling, especially as Schelling's form of Idealism was passed down through the Russian thinkers. In doing so, she persuasively recasts Balthasar as an ecumenical, creatively anti-nostalgic theologian hospitable to the richness of contributions from extra-magisterial and non-Catholic sources.
