Morgan's Men reveals how the team became the most aggressive limited-overs side in the world, led by their inspirational captain Eoin Morgan, whose vision and determination to succeed captured the imagination of the nation. Hoult and James follow England's journey from Bangladesh to Barbados, from Melbourne to Manchester, to present the inside story of the team's rebirth. They tell us how players dealt with the Ben Stokes court case, the sacking of Alex Hales for a drugs ban, and reveal the innovative new strategies and tactics that helped them become the best in the world, culminating in a World Cup final that was arguably the greatest one-day match of all time.

Book excerpt: The year was 1983 and Team India was in its first-ever World Cup final. They were the minnows of the cricketing world – so much so that the bookmakers were offering 66:1 against India winning the title. Yet, despite the odds stacked against them, Kapil Dev’s inspirational captaincy took a bunch of no-hopers to World Cup glory. As Dev held the trophy in his hands on 25 June that year, India ushered in an era during which cricket would go on to dominate all sporting activity in the country and the men who played the winning innings would be venerated as demigods. Based on first-hand accounts of the days leading up to that historic win, Miracle Men brings alive some of the most glorious moments in Indian cricket. From dressing-room disagreements to selectorial intrigues to on-field strategies, this riveting account is as entertaining and full of unexpected turns as the best game of cricket.

Tournament has evolved since its inception in 1975. It started off with players wearing traditional white cloths and matches with 60 overs for each side. South Africa also played first time during 1992 edition after South Africa came out of international boycott, once miserable era of apartheid was over. In 1999, 2003 and 2007, there were three stages in the tournament with group stage, super six/eight and then knockout. In 1996 & 2011, there were only two stages but knock out match started from quarter-final (group of eight) thus winner had to play and win three knock-out matches. Book excerpt: This is a riveting read for a cricket lover, especially an India fan. A remarkable, eye-witness history of the Cricket World Cup from an Indian perspective the book details the little-known story of India's turning point in one-day cricket in Guyana, when Kapil Dev's team in March 1983 beat the previously unassailable West Indies in their backyard. It also reminds readers of the tremor that was felt in the cricketing world when India repeated the success at Manchester in the World Cup 10 weeks later, before defeating the same side in the final two weeks later. It relives India's forgotten triumph in the 1985 World Championship and the rekindling of hope when Sourav Ganguly's team finished as runners-up in the 2003 World Cup. The book further depicts how MS Dhoni planned victory, together with Sachin Tendulkar inspiring Yuvraj Singh to perform at his best, in the 2011 tournament. The book is embellished by illuminating reports and scores on each India match and every semi-final and final in the World Cup since its inception. Finally, it discusses India's prospects in the 2019 World Cup.

Their style of cricket has always been ideal for this type of game; exhilarating, stroke-making batsmen; penetrative, wicket-taking bowlers and dynamic, athletic fielders. For 15 years between 1976 and 1991, the West Indies ruled the cricket world in imperious style. This book will highlight the sad demise of West Indian cricket, as the accessibility of cable television has shown youngsters in the Caribbean other sports, ones which offer untold wealth to even those of moderate professional standard.
