Army Engineer District, Portland, funded this research to evaluate possibilities for standardizing hydroacoustic methods for estimating fish passage through U. S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the lower Columbia River, Washington and Oregon. The effort included this standardization workshop involving experts with fixed-aspect hydroacoustics, statistics, or fish passage. The goal of the workshop was to increase the consistency and comparability of fish-passage estimates by different researchers among sites and years by identifying important considerations and guidelines for hydroacoustic sampling, data processing, and data analysis. The 2-day workshop was held in Cascade Locks, OR, on 16 and 17 September 1997.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As aquaculture continues to grow at a rapid pace, understanding the engineering behind aquatic production facilities is of increasing importance for all those working in the industry. Aquaculture engineering requires knowledge of the many general aspects of engineering such as material technology, building design and construction, mechanical engineering, and environmental engineering. In this comprehensive book now in its second edition, author Odd-Ivar Lekang introduces these principles and demonstrates how such technical knowledge can be applied to aquaculture systems. Review of the first edition: 'Fish farmers and other personnel involved in the aquaculture industry, suppliers to the fish farming business and designers and manufacturers will find this book an invaluable resource. The book will be an important addition to the shelves of all libraries in universities and research institutions where aquaculture, agriculture and environmental sciences are studied and taught.' Aquaculture Europe 'A useful book that, hopefully, will inspire successors that focus more on warm water aquaculture and on large-scale mariculture such as tuna farming.' Cision

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Conference on Fish Migration and Bypass Channels held in Vienna in September 1996. It covers the range of fish pass technologies currently in use throughout the world and attempts to develop a wider, more ecological perspective on this formerly engineering-orientated discipline. Emphasis is placed on enhancing an understanding of fish migration behaviour, and achieving optimum design to meet the behavioural requirements of all known migratory species. Additional attention is paid to comparing the European trend towards constructing nature-like bypass channels with the highly technical solutions dominant in North America.
