Book excerpt: Culled From JEM's acclaimed My Encounter with the Rebbe interviews, Seeds of Wisdom is a heartwarming collection of short stories and encounters between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and people who sought his counsel on a wide array of life's questions and challenges. Contained within these exchanges are profound life-lessons in relationships, parenting, leadership, faith, and personal well-being. This little book of wisdom has the power to enrich your life and help effect personal growth and meaningful living. "In Seeds of Wisdom Rabbi Mendel Kalmenson has assembled a wonderful series of stories about the Lubavitcher Rebbe, one of the great leaders and holy men of our time. Read it and you will be enthralled. This is true food for the soul." -Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks "I can't recall the last time I was as inspired by a 'Jewish' book as I was by Seeds Of Wisdom. The genius of it lies in its reduction, its distillation of complex ideas into immediate and potent language. Several of the vignettes gave me goose bumps, others brought me to tears. As with my own personal encounters with the Rebbe, I take away a greater sense of mission and purpose." -Peter Himmelman - Award winning musician and artist "Seeds of Wisdom is a valuable resource that makes many important points in a brief, memorable way." -Joseph Teluskin - Lecturer and author of Jewish Literacy and the Book of Jewish Values

Book excerpt: If it wasn't for dogs, some people would never go for a walk. --anonymous Gotham Chopra considers himself a pretty average guy. He devours pizza, lives and dies by his hometown teams, and watches Kung Fu Panda with his son--daily. But his childhood wasn't quite so average. Growing up, Gotham was exposed to the deepest reservoirs of knowledge that his famous father, Deepak, could find; his childhood was part spiritual, part scientific, and totally unique. Now a newly minted father himself, he's contemplating the influences he wants to draw on for his own son. The first was no surprise: his father. The second was unexpected: his dogs. From Nicholas, the blaze of energy and anarchy who turned the family upside down, to Cleo, a rescue mutt with food issues, the Chopra dogs taught the family about curiosity and wisdom, open-mindedness and passion, not to mention loyalty and pig's ears. But what else, Gotham wondered? And how did these lessons compare to the ones that Deepak himself imparted? Gotham would soon find out. When his mother took an unexpected trip to India and leaves instructions to look after Papa, father and son have an opportunity for male bonding on a big scale. That this bonding takes place on their daily walks seems almost natural. After all, Gotham also had in his care a nervous dog and an exuberant toddler, both with an insatiable need for exercise and exploration. So Gotham and Deepak walk and talk, discussing the laughs and licks that come with having a dog, along with the contradictions, complexities, and consequences of having children. They soon realize the qualities they observe and admire most in their pets are values we humans would do well to nurture within ourselves. They discover that our best friends have a lot to teach us. Gotham and Deepak's message may seem simple, but therein lies its brilliance. Heartfelt, endearing, and above all down to earth, Walking Wisdom offers readers both enlightenment and comfort, with a little bit of mayhem thrown in for good measure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, these two works attributed to the great Jesse Livermore are presented together in one volume with a new foreword by Juliette Rogers. Both contain interesting insights into Livermore's life and times as well as the reasons for his success. They remain classics and must reads for every new aspirant in the world of speculation. The two books in this volume were written in the early 1920s, when Livermore was already famous but still ascending to the peak of his wealth. The nightmare of World War I was fading, and the United States had successfully transitioned from a wartime economy into a peacetime powerhouse. Americans became enamored of cars, telephones, radios, and movies. A newfound fascination with celebrities extended beyond film stars and athletes to the rich and powerful. People wanted to know how Wall Street wizards like Jesse Livermore spun their magic. The first book, Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefèvre, offers keen insight while at the same time adding to the Livermore enigma. Reminiscences is the first-person narrative of a fictional speculator named Larry Livingston, whose life events happen to match precisely those of Jesse Livermore. As a financial journalist, biographer, and novelist, Edwin Lefèvre gave his readers their much-desired glimpse into the lofty world of Wall Street elites. He wrote eight other books, but none matched the success of Reminiscences, which has remained in print since 1923 and been translated into numerous languages. Even the understated former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan once called it "a font of investing wisdom." In true Livermore fashion, the book itself remains something of a mystery. Specifically, over the decades many readers have wondered if the book's author was not Lefèvre, but none other than Jesse Livermore. The two men were long acquainted and may have traded useful information over the years. A 1967 biography claims that Livermore, shortly before his death, acknowledged writing Reminiscences with guidance from Lefèvre, who served as "editor and coach." This revelation came to the biographer secondhand and without confirmation, so the mystery continues. However, attentive readers may note the narrator's especially gleeful tone whenever windfalls are made or old scores are settled, suggesting a connection more personal than professional. In the years following these publications, Livermore continued to burnish his legend. A 1924 run-up in wheat prices squeezed him out of $3 million, but the following year he recovered his losses and added tremendous profit when the wheat market collapsed. Of course, in this era of modest regulation, markets were vulnerable to manipulation and Livermore--by now nicknamed the "Great Bear of Wall Street"--did not eschew such tactics.

Wu Wei has added his enlightened comments to these sayings to help us apply the practical, timeless wisdom of the I Ching to our lives. The wisdom of the I Ching reveals the universal laws that govern us all, and I Ching Wisdom shows us how to live in harmony with those laws to live a life of peace, love, happiness, prosperity, and success. The I Ching’s invaluable insights, says Wu Wei, help us steer a safer, clearer course through the uncharted journey of our lives, teach us to recognize and avoid the pitfalls that beset the path of the unenlightened, and show us how to “soar to the heights of success and good fortune." Each saying is accompanied by a delightful Chinese ink drawing done in the Zen style by the author.

This volume, packed with his enlightened wisdom, covers topics that are generally more metaphysical than in Book One, so expect to be a little surprised and delighted. Moryas words are preparing us for a new world and a new way of being. Subjects range from understanding magic, the nature of the universe and other dimensions, to understanding the nature of our emotions and how blockages and resistance prevent us from manifesting our dreams and our ideal world. Morya has a mesmerising way with words, and his presence is powerfully felt as we ponder on his messages and how they apply to ourselves. His warm and fatherly humour touches our heart, providing new understanding and support for our, sometimes lonely, journey. Master El Morya is always spot on in helping us move out of limiting old ways of thinking and being and towards a more harmonious, fulfilling, and loving life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been blessed tremendously from your column in the online newspaper Nigeriaworld.com. Your piece has often been rich and scripturally authentic. I also have this bias the moment I found out you are a Nigerian. Rev. Israel - Ghana, West Africa Your ministry blessed my life when you spoke in our class at Westside Church on Feb. 3rd. I want to say thank you, for sharing with us about the tripartite nature of man. I look forward to visiting your website and getting your resources online. Shelly - Omaha NE USA I just read another thought provoking article from you today. I saw one of your articles around 2009 on Nigeriaworld.com and I got stuck. You've been able to explain what I could not explain in words. Most of what you write about I perceive in my environment, but could articulate and dissect it well. I got invited to an Exegetical Church around that time, you and a combination of other factors have greatly influence my re-orientation. Thanks for taking time to teach us and expose the truth. Seun - Phoenix USA A very good morning from warm and humid Lagos, Nigeria. I am a management consultant (hospitality industry) and want to let you know that your articles are of immense blessing to me, they not only inspire, motivate and bless me, most importantly it keeps one focused as we journey through life. Henry - Lagos, Nigeria Your article on the hybrid worldview of African Christians is very enriching. You actually make any serious minded Christian reader, understand the real theme of religiosity. Thank you for the writing and I look forward to meeting someday. Caster - Paris, France I just want to say a big thank you for all your articles. I came across your website at a low point in my life, I am very educated and married early and now with 3 children. My spouse recently converted from Christianity because he believes "we" are all hypocrites. I'm focusing on the kids and God, and look forward to what God has in store. Again, thank you for your articles, they've given me inner strength. Liz - England, UK William Femi Awodele is the executive director of Christian Couples Fellowship International, Inc., a marriage ministry based in Omaha, Nebraska, in the United States. He is married to Olatokunbo (a family physician), and they are blessed with two boys, Ibukunoluwa and Fiyinfoluwa and a daughter Ebunoluwa.
