Book excerpt: Through the examples of successful people in history who all battled their demons and failures, Orison Swett Marden inspires readers to overcome their difficulties too by cultivating positive attitude. Spread over eighteen chapters and a conversational way of writing, this book would surely interest those who are looking to achieve self-confidence, power and success. Excerpt: "Believe in yourself; feel that you are to dominate your surroundings. Resolve that you will be the master and not the slave of circumstances. This very assertion of superiority; this assumption of power; this affirmation of your ability to succeed,—the attitude that claims success as an inalienable birthright,—will strengthen the whole man and give great added power to the combination of faculties which doubt, fear and lack of confidence undermine. Self-confidence marshals all one's faculties and twists their united strength into one mighty achievement cable. It carries conviction. It makes other people believe in us. What has not been accomplished through its miraculous power!" Dr. Orison Swett Marden (1848-1924) was an American inspirational author who wrote about achieving success in life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eBook edition of "The Theory of Business Enterprise" has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. The Theory of Business Enterprise is a political economy book that looks at the growing corporate domination of culture and the economy. At its heart The Theory of Business Enterprise is an analysis of two intertwined but clashing motivations; that of business and that of industry. Business is the making of profits. Industry is the making of goods. "The captains of industry" curtailed production in order to keep prices and profits high. The worst fears of businessmen was a "free run of production" which would essentially collapse all profits. In this book, which was published in 1904 during the height of American concern with the growth of business combinations and trusts, Veblen employed his evolutionary analysis to explain these new forms. He saw them as a consequence of the growth of industrial processes in a context of small business firms that had evolved earlier to organize craft production. Thorstein Veblen (1857-1929) was an American economist and sociologist. He is well known as a witty critic of capitalism. Veblen is famous for the idea of "conspicuous consumption." Conspicuous consumption, along with "conspicuous leisure," is performed to demonstrate wealth or mark social status. Veblen explains the concept in his best-known book, The Theory of the Leisure Class. Within the history of economic thought, Veblen is considered the leader of the institutional economics movement. Veblen's distinction between "institutions" and "technology" is still called the Veblenian dichotomy by contemporary economists.

As the train stops for a while, she asks for a place to stay, but gets sent to Bill Quade, one of the most crooked guys in that part of the back woods. Fortunately she meets a well known writer John Aldous who becomes her guardian, ready to step up when a lady is in danger. James Oliver Curwood (1878-1927) was an American action-adventure writer and conservationist. His adventure writing followed in the tradition of Jack London. Like London, Curwood set many of his works in the wilds of the Great White North. He often took trips to the Canadian northwest which provided the inspiration for his wilderness adventure stories. At least eighteen movies have been based on or inspired by Curwood's novels and short stories.

They are the thoughts of our families, our culture, our religious teachings, and those of our peers. Consequently, none of us has attained the full life we desired for ourselves. Modern science has proved that intelligence is not confined to the brain cells, but that we think as a whole, and that all the cell life takes part in the thinking process. Every thought, every impression made on the mind, every mental attitude, affects all of the cells of the body. For that reason, this classic text by Orison Swett Marden and updated by David H. Morgan may be the most important book you will ever read. If our thoughts are our destiny, in reading this book, you will discover: • Thought, Our Incredible Life-Force • The Power of Thought In Creating Self-Confidence • The Power of Thought in Creating Health • The Power of Thought in Creating Happiness • The Power of Thought in Creating Prosperity • The Power of Thought to Prevent Aging These ideas and techniques will enable you to create a life where you control your own destiny...your ideals, your dreams, your hopes. OUR THOUGHTS AND IMAGINATION ARE THE ONLY REAL LIMITS TO OUR POSSIBILITIES. — Orison Swett Marden
