Book excerpt: A. A. Milne called the character Winnie-the-Pooh after a teddy bear owned and operated by the boy of his, Christopher Robin Milne, on whom the character Christopher Robin was grounded. Shepard in turn based the illustrations of his of Pooh on his son's teddy bear called Growler, rather than Christopher Robin's bear. The majority of Christopher Milne's toys - Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, and Tigger - had been integrated into Milne's stories.[5][6] 2 more characters, Rabbit and Owl, were developed by Milne's creativity, while Gopher was included to the Disney version. Christopher Robin's plaything bear is actually on screen at the Main Branch of the brand new York Public Library in New York City. In 1921, Milne purchased his boy Christopher Robin the toy bear from Harrods division store.Christopher Robin had called his plaything bear after Winnie, a Canadian black bear he frequently discovered at London Zoo, and Pooh, a friend's pet swan they'd encountered while on vacation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winnie-the-Pooh, also known as Pooh Bear and Pooh, is a fictional anthropomorphic teddy bear developed by English writer A. A. Milne along with English artist E. H. Shepard. The book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) had been the very very first collection of stories about The character, followed by the home at Pooh Corner (1928). Milne published a poem about the bear in the children's poem collection Whenever we Were Very Young (1924) along with a lot more in Now We're 6 (1927). E. H. Shepard supplied the illustrations for the four volumes. The Pooh stories are transcribed into a number of languages, like Alexander Lenard's Latin translation, Winnie ille Pu, which launched in 1958 and became The 1st Latin book to be listed on the brand new York Times Best Seller list in 1960 . In 1961, Walt Disney Productions acquired part of the movie rights along with other rights to Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories from the estate of A. A. Milne and Stephen Slesinger, Inc., and changed the Pooh stories into a number of animated features under the unhyphenated name "Winnie the Pooh." the series will become among Disney's best selling franchises. For well known movie adaptations, Pooh is voiced by actors Sterling Holloway, Hal Smith, along with Jim Cummings in English, along with Yevgeny Leonov in Russian. A celebrated Children's classic filled with a collection of short stories that lives in an era of timeless distinction. This original 1926 illustrated first edition of Winnie-the-Pooh with E H Sheperd's original black drawings really is a true classic. Sneak Peak The Old Grey Donkey, Eeyore, stood by himself in a thistly corner of the forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?"--and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about. So when Winnie-the-Pooh came stumping along, Eeyore was very glad to be able to stop thinking for a little, in order to say, "How do you do?" in a gloomy manner to him. He named her Winnie, after his hometown of Winnipeg, and he took the bear to war. Milne was a gifted and mercurial writer who studied at Cambridge University on a mathematics scholarship. He was a noted playwright before the success of Winnie-The-Pooh eclipsed his previous work. Milne was a passionate cricket player and was a member of a cricket team called The Allahakbarries with fellow writers J.M. Barrie and Arthur Conan Doyle.Milne wrote the Winnie-The-Pooh books for his son, Christopher Robin Milne, and the characters were inspired by his son's collection of stuffed toy animals, notably his teddy bear Winnie-The-Pooh. Originally named Edward, he was re-named after a Canadian black bear named Winnie (short for Winnipeg) who was used as a military mascot in World War One before being left to London Zoo after the war. E.H. Shephard's illustrations of Winnie-The-Pooh were based on his own son's teddy bear, Growler.

Book excerpt: In It's Too Late Now: The Autobiography of a Writer, A. A Milne, with his characteristic self-deprecating humour, recalls a blissfully happy childhood in the company of his brothers and writes with touching affection about his father whom he adored. From Westminster School he won a scholarship to Cambridge University where he edited the university magazine, Granta. He then went out into the world, determined to be a writer. He was assistant editor at Punch Magazine and enjoyed great success with his novels, plays and stories. And of course he is best remembered for his children’s novels and verses featuring Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. This is both an account of how a writer was formed and a charming period piece on literary life – Milne met countless famous authors including H. G. Wells, J.M Barrie of Peter Pan fame and Rudyard Kipling.
