Book excerpt: This is a true story about how the system of justice works to protect America's children, with the essential support of thousands of volunteers, Guardian ad Litem (GALs), also known as Court Appointed Special Advocates. We call them "Guardians without Wings." We have found the lack of proper education, the influence of secularism, and especially, poor moral upbringing, represent the fundamental causes of child abandonment, neglect and abuse. More than 75% of Americans claim to be Judeo-Christians at the beginning of this century. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are based on Christian principles, yet many have discarded these values that are the foundation of our society. We believe that all children are born innocent and lovable! It is the parents, relatives, role models, peer group pressure, secular (and atheistic) teachers, and mainly the "culture of death", that have caused too many of these children to grow up to become dysfunctional adults, and in many cases, appalling parents. What do we mean by "culture of death" in western society? It is our growing divorce rates (over 52%); Abortion-On-Demand (50 million so far) and rise of Euthanasia; Unmarried Parents, who lack responsibility for their children; and the epidemic of illegal drug addiction problem. Some parents are clueless about the essentials of parenting. They are immature adults themselves. As one Judge said, "they are like rabbits that keep on reproducing." Should these "adults" have children, if they are morally, and psychologically unable to be loving, caring parents? You can't love, if you have not been loved as a child. The lack of spiritual formation (Jewish, Christian, among other faiths) was predominant in about 80-85% of our cases, and that represents one of the most important reasons for the breakdown of social order in our society. Conversely, we must be very careful to avoid extreme fundamentalists that will actually create further issues for our children. "If we have full employment and great economic growth ... but our children have not learned to walk in goodness, justice and mercy, then the American experiment ... will have failed." William Bennett

He often faced extraordinary circumstances of his own. Then one day he comes across a silver key with no idea of where it came from or what its for. Before he knows it, he and five of his peers are transported to an outer world called Kingdom Planet by a sorcerer name Ohuran. They learn what the silver key is for, to unlock great powers that once belonged to a group of warriors call Kingdom Guardians, and they were chosen to inherit it, for reasons they dont quite understand at first. They also learn that a ruthless Prince has wanted the powers for himself for some time. After an incident causes the good to meet with the evil, the Prince gets motivated and then declares war on these six teenagers. So Elijah has no choice but to lead five of his peers into the face of danger, in order to become the new Kingdom Guardians and fight against the Prince and his army. Along the way, strength and courage are discovered; a friendship builds from a journey that would change their lives forever.

Book excerpt: The Mayan symbol Hunab Ku represents movement and energy—the principle of life itself—in a spiraling design reminiscent of the Eastern yin-yang symbol. As an embodiment of harmony and balance, Hunab Ku invites us into the age of consciousness, which is predicted to begin on December 21, 2012.HUNAB KU prepares us for this cosmic awakening by presenting 77 sacred symbols that create an interactive system for learning, healing, and meditation. Beautifully illustrated and exhaustively researched, this virtual pilgrimage invites us to explore artifacts, earthworks, numerological patterns, and archetypes from diverse traditions the world over: ancient Greece, the Americas, Africa, the British Isles, Babylon, India, and beyond. Hunab Ku waits for you at the book’s center, the threshold between our present age and the coming age of enlightenment. Like runes, tarot, and other pathworking systems, the archetypes herein open doors, create bridges, and shed light on our past and our future. These spiritual signposts are all around us and within, waiting to be interpreted. Let HUNAB KU be your guide. A richly illustrated book that draws on cross-cultural ancient symbols, numerology, archetypes, and earthworks, and the chakras. Includes 77 vivid full-color illustrations placed within the framework and palette of the seven chakras. Builds on the growing popularity of José Arguelles’s The Mayan Factor and Carl Johan Calleman’s The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness.

With passionate heat scorching each living heart, fire burns wild like a work of art. The heavens and all whorling tempests transform wind blasting into an endless storm. Water. Wind. Fire. The three Arts. These have guided the Winged Guardians for ages, helping keep the Aeonian Realm defended from all manner of creatures. But now things are turning for the worse, and not even the Arts are enough to keep the animals at bay. As time passes, the Falcon Riders are forced to change their tactics. The animals that were once gentle and calm are turning wild. The ones that were already ferocious become savage and move toward the offensive against Realmfolk. Seven Folk must turn the tides of wildness, and find the key to all unknown. They must leave all that they know to discover the truth. Even when that means they may lose everything.

Book excerpt: This is a collection of metaphorical short stories created from bits of my life. When you have a negative experience, do you replay it over and over, allowing it to build upon itself, thereby magnifying those negative feelings? On the other hand, when you have a positive experience, do you replay that over and over, allowing it to build upon itself more and more feelings of joy? Do you find yourself attributing more aspects of good to the experience because of the uplifting feelings it brought to you? Couples who are in love often do this. In either case, the event is technically over with. Have you let those experiences go, or are you still living within them as if they were happening now? If the experience was negative, did you resolve it, or did you just bury it within the deep recesses of your mind, where it may be awakened from time to time in reaction to lifes continuing experiences? If it was positive, do you keep replaying it over and over as if there will be no more, thereby preventing yourself from creating and enjoying even better ones? Since the experiences, however you would describe them, have already happened, you can now rewrite the memory, or story, of any of them in a way that allows you to let them go using the information and understanding you have assimilated since then. If negative, you can take the bitter foods of those experiences, the spinach, turnips, and liver, then add spices and sauces of understanding, forgiveness, and love and let them pass out of your consciousness leaving you free to create a buffet of even more tasteful and delicious life experiences! The metaphorical foods that came my way may not have been ones I would have consciously chosen, yet I have now made them palatable adding value to my life and allowing me to let them go and move on. So can you. This is a portion of my buffet of stories. What are yours?

Book excerpt: Honorable Mention, 2021 Latinx Studies Section Outstanding Book Award, given by the Latin American Studies Association Winner, 2020 Latino Book Awards in the LGBTQ+ Themed Section Finalist, 2019 Lambda Literary Award in LGBTQ Studies Critically reimagines Chicanx art, unmasking its queer afterlife Emboldened by the boom in art, fashion, music, and retail culture in 1980s Los Angeles, the iconoclasts of queer Aztlán—as Robb Hernández terms the group of artists who emerged from East LA, Orange County, and other parts of Southern California during this period—developed a new vernacular with which to read the city in bloom. Tracing this important but understudied body of work, Archiving an Epidemic catalogs a queer retelling of the Chicana and Chicano art movement, from its origins in the 1960s, to the AIDS crisis and the destruction it wrought in the 1980s, and onto the remnants and legacies of these artists in the current moment. Hernández offers a vocabulary for this multi-modal avant-garde—one that contests the heteromasculinity and ocular surveillance visited upon it by the larger Chicanx community, as well as the formally straight conditions of traditional archive-building, museum institutions, and the art world writ large. With a focus on works by Mundo Meza (1955–85), Teddy Sandoval (1949–1995), and Joey Terrill (1955– ), and with appearances by Laura Aguilar, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe, and even Eddie Murphy, Archiving an Epidemic composes a complex picture of queer Chicanx avant-gardisms. With over sixty images—many of which are published here for the first time—Hernández’s work excavates this archive to question not what Chicanx art is, but what it could have been.
