The threat posed by most dangerous weapons of mass destruction where the earth's environment is concerned are probably fossil fuels and their indiscriminate use. Renewable energy resources need to be commercially developed on a scale competitive with conventional sources; which when so described, designate the definition of renewable as unconventional. This should not be acceptable. Renewable should be the first choice and the sheer demand and investment in refining these technologies like sun and wind should bring this about. Also, wind and sun are some of the areas which are the answer to the heretofore electricity denied or deficient for underdeveloped areas of the world where it is difficult for conventional grids to be erected or to reach. Issues that need to be resolved are the lack of wind resource data, remote habitat utility policies, sovereignty, perceived developer risk, limited loads, investment capital, technical expertise, and transmission to markets. The book attempts to look at the economic, technological and environmental aspects of wind harnessing to give a picture of how the wind energy sector has developed and its potential for the future.
