Der größte Unterschied besteht darin, dass Bieri davon ausgeht, dass Freiheit und Determinismus miteinander vereinbar sind, während Schopenhauer meint, Determinismus schließe Freiheit aus. Dies ist eine Folge ihrer unterschiedlichen Freiheitsbegriffe. Bieri meint, dass Freiheit Determiniertheit oder Bedingtheit voraussetzt, da eine unbedingte Freiheit zufällig wäre und kein Handelnder sich als Urheber seiner Handlungen fühlen könnte, wenn sie ihm zufällig zustößt. Deshalb wäre eine unbedingte, zufällige Freiheit gar keine Freiheit. Bieri lehnt nicht nur die Existenz, sondern auch die Idee einer unbedingten Freiheit ab. Schopenhauer dagegen kann sich nur eine unbedingte Willensfreiheit vorstellen. Determinismus ist bei ihm gleichbedeutend mit Unfreiheit. Da es aber in der Welt der Erscheinung nichts geben kann, das ohne Ursache ist, weil unser Erkenntnisvermögen so beschaffen ist, dass es nur im Rahmen von Raum, Zeit und Kausalität funktioniert, kann es diese Freiheit in der Welt der Erscheinung nicht geben. Bieri meint, dass wir uns unsere Freiheit aneignen können, indem wir unseren Willen verstehen, ihn artikulieren und gutheißen. Ein wichtiges Kriterium der Freiheit ist bei ihm die Identifikation mit dem eigenen Willen. Dies geschieht, indem wir Wünsche zweiter Stufe ausbilden, die Urteile über die Wünsche erster Stufe oder Selbstbilder sind. Im Lichte dieses Selbstbildes identifizieren wir uns entweder mit unserem Willen oder lehnen ihn ab. Ein Wille wird dabei als handlungswirksamer Wunsch verstanden. Es ist auch möglich, dass wir etwas wollen und tun, das wir verurteilen. In diesem Fall würde Bieri uns als unfrei bezeichnen. Zum Kriterium der Identifikation kommt hinzu, dass das Nachdenken nicht übergangen wird und dass wir unsere Phantasie dazu gebrauchen, uns andere Alternativen vorzustellen, bevor wir eine Entscheidung treffen. Bei der Suche nach passender Literatur stieß ich auf die Preisschrift Arthur Schopenhauers mit dem Titel "Über die Freiheit des menschlichen Willens", in der ich viele meiner eigenen Gedanken beeindruckend klar und eindeutig formuliert und weitergeführt fand, was mich überzeugte, diese als Grundlage für meine Arbeit zu verwenden. Ein weiterer Aspekt, der mein Interesse weckte, ist die Frage, warum die Ablehnung der Willensfreiheit, die mir nach einiger Beschäftigung sehr logisch und einleuchtend erschien, in unserer Gesellschaft kaum eine Rolle spielt. Ich werde daher im Verlauf dieser Arbeit versuchen, Schopenhauers Lösungsansatz anhand der bereits erwähnten Preisschrift vorzustellen und seine Relevanz in Bezug auf unsere Gesellschaft zu bewerten. Dabei werden sich Ubereinstimmungen der beiden Autoren ergeben, die klar die Aktualitat Schopenhauers belegen, wobei der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit auf Schopenhauers Freiheitsbegriff liegt. Im Teil II zeige ich Schopenhauers Entwicklung der Freiheit aus dem Selbstbewusstsein, um dann in Teil III den Willen naher zu bestimmen. Teil IV wird sich dann intensiv mit dem Charakter des Menschen befassen, bevor im Teil V Rowe zu Wort kommen soll und den Kontrast zum Denken Schopenhauers bildet. Teil VI gibt das Ergebnis von Schopenhauers Analyse der Freiheit wider. Letzten Endes bezieht sich die Frage auf die generelle Willensfreiheit des Menschen. Viele Philosophen haben sich schon z. T., lange bevor Schopenhauer es getan hat, mit diesem Thema beschaftigt, einige davon zitiert Schopenhauer und/oder setzt an ihren Systemen an. So z. B. Book excerpt: Schumpeter first reviews the basic economic concepts that describe the recurring economic processes of a commercially organized state in which private property, division of labor, and free competition prevail. These constitute what Schumpeter calls "the circular flow of economic life," such as consumption, factors and means of production, labor, value, prices, cost, exchange, money as a circulating medium, and exchange value of money. The principal focus of the book is advancing the idea that change (economic development) is the key to explaining the features of a modern economy. Schumpeter emphasizes that his work deals with economic dynamics or economic development, not with theories of equilibrium or "circular flow" of a static economy, which have formed the basis of traditional economics. Interest, profit, productive interest, and business fluctuations, capital, credit, and entrepreneurs can better be explained by reference to processes of development. A static economy would know no productive interest, which has its source in the profits that arise from the process of development (successful execution of new combinations). The principal changes in a dynamic economy are due to technical innovations in the production process. Schumpeter elaborates on the role of credit in economic development; credit expansion affects the distribution of income and capital formation. Bank credit detaches productive resources from their place in circular flow to new productive combinations and innovations. Capitalism inherently depends upon economic progress, development, innovation, and expansive activity, which would be suppressed by inflexible monetary policy. The essence of development consists in the introduction of innovations into the system of production. This period of incorporation or adsorption is a period of readjustment, which is the essence of depression. Both profits of booms and losses from depression are part of the process of development. There is a distinction between the processes of creating a new productive apparatus and the process of merely operating it once it is created. Development is effected by the entrepreneur, who guides the diversion of the factors of production into new combinations for better use; by recasting the productive process, including the introduction of new machinery, and producing products at less expense, the entrepreneur creates a surplus, which he claims as profit. The entrepreneur requires capital, which is found in the money market, and for which the entrepreneur pays interest. The entrepreneur creates a model for others to follow, and the appearance of numerous new entrepreneurs causes depressions as the system struggles to achieve a new equilibrium. The entrepreneurial profit then vanishes in the vortex of competition; the stage is set for new combinations. Risk is not part of the entrepreneurial function; risk falls on the provider of capital. The way leading to this aim is a dialogue between Islamic and Western Philosophy. Our project is motivated by the observation that the historical roots of Islamic and of Western Philosophy are very similar. Thus some of the articles in this volume are dedicated to the history of philosophy, in Islamic thinking as well as in Western traditions. But the dialogue between Islamic and Western Philosophy is not only an historical issue, it also has systematic relevance for actual philosophical questions. The topic Substance and Attribute particularly has an important history in both traditions; and it has systematic relevance for the actual ontological debate. The volume includes contributions (among others) by Hans Burkhardt, Hans Kraml, Muhammad Legenhausen, Michal Loux, Pedro Schmechtig, Muhammad Shomali, Erwin Tegtmeier, and Daniel von Wachter.
