Book Synopsis Who Cares About Wildlife? by : Michael J. Manfredo
Download or read book Who Cares About Wildlife? written by Michael J. Manfredo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who Cares About Wildlife? integrates social science theory in order to provide a conceptual structure for understanding and studying human interaction with wildlife. A thorough review of the current literature in conceptual areas, including norms, values, attitudes, emotions, wildlife value orientations, cultural change, and evolutionary forces/inherited tendencies is provided, and the importance of these areas in studying human-wildlife relationships is highlighted. No other book both considers the human relationship with wildlife and provides a theoretical framework for understanding this relationship on the individual, as well as cultural level. Who Cares About Wildlife? will be valuable both to students and to practitioners in wildlife management and conservation, as well those interested in the human relationship with wildlife, natural resources, and the environment.
Book Synopsis Wildlife and People by : Gary G. Gray
Download or read book Wildlife and People written by Gary G. Gray and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wildlife and People focuses on the human aspect of the animal-habitat-human triad, providing an introduction to virtually every discipline - from anthropology and history to socioeconomics - included in the human dimensions of wildlife ecology. Gary Gray maintains that the most fruitful approach to wildlife ecology grants coequality to wild animal population biology, the ecology and management of wildlife habitats, and the disciplines that consider wildlife in relation to human culture. He concentrates on socioeconomic aspects of habitat-animal-human interactions in a broad time-space-species perspective, examining topics ranging from aboriginal human-wildlife relationships to consumptive uses of wildlife and wildlife law, policy, and administration.

Download or read book Native Trees of the Midwest written by Sally S. Weeks and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-07 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Native Trees of the Midwest is a definitive guide to identifying trees in Indiana and surrounding states, written by three leading forestry experts. Descriptive text explains how to identify every species in any season and color photographs show all important characteristics. Not only does the book allow the user to identify trees and learn of their ecological and distributional attributes, but it also presents an evaluation of each species relative to its potential ornamental value for those interested in landscaping. Since tree species have diverse values to wildlife, an evaluation of wildlife uses is presented with a degree of detail available nowhere else. The revised and expanded second edition contains a chapter on introduced species that have become naturalized and invasive throughout the region. All accounts have been reviewed and modifications made when necessary to reflect changes in taxonomy, status, or wildlife uses. Keys have been modified to incorporate introduced species.

Book Synopsis Wildlife Conservation Evaluation by : Michael B. Usher
Download or read book Wildlife Conservation Evaluation written by Michael B. Usher and published by Springer. This book was released on 1986-06-19 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mid 1970s two events led me to get to know the Yorkshire Dales better than I had previously. Since 1964 I had been to the Malham Tarn Field Centre with groups of students, first from the University of Edinburgh and then from the University of York, and my family very much enjoyed the summer days we spent amid this magnificent hill scenery. In 1976, the British Ecological Society and the National Trust jointly worked on a survey of the biological interest of the National Trust properties of the Kent, East Anglian and Yorkshire Regions. Malham Tarn itself, and the surrounding farms, formed one of the twenty properties of the Yorkshire Region. I spent the bank holiday, that commemorated the Queen's Silver Jubilee, at Malham, looking fairly closely at the National Trust's landholding there. Miss Sarah Priest, who also looked at the National Trust properties, and I produced a report in late 1977, attempting both to describe and to evaluate the nature resources of the National Trust in Yorkshire. In the following year, 1978, the Nature Conservancy Council wanted to survey the whole of the upland area that was known as the Malhaml Arncliffe SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). A contract to look at such an exciting area, considering where boundaries should go, and looking to see if there were important areas of habitat that should be brought within the SSSI, was a superb practical antidote to an office in the University.
