Research shows that student attitudes about reading are directly related to student achievement. Findings of this study show that one second grade classroom had a significant increase in attitudes about reading using the balanced literacy approach after exposure to traditional approach to reading. After collecting and reviewing the findings of this study, current research and literature, and the statistical data from one second grade classroom, it is found that there is an instructional approach to reading that results in increased student attitude.
