Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a dark departure from our standard picture of whistleblowers, C. Fred Alford offers a chilling account of the world of people who have come forward to protest organizational malfeasance in government agencies and in the private sector. The conventional story—high-minded individual fights soulless organization, is persecuted, yet triumphs in the end—is seductive and pervasive. In speaking with whistleblowers and their families, lawyers, and therapists, Alford discovers that the reality of whistleblowing is grim. Few whistleblowers succeed in effecting change; even fewer are regarded as heroes or martyrs.Alford mixes narrative analysis with political insight to offer a frank picture of whistleblowing and a controversial view of organizations. According to Alford, the organization as an institution is dedicated to the destruction of the moral individualist. Frequently, he claims, the organization succeeds, which means that the whistleblowers are broken, unable to reconcile their actions and beliefs with the responses they receive from others. In addition to being mistreated by organizations, whistleblowers often do not receive support from their families and communities. In order to make sense of their stories, Alford claims, some whistleblowers must set aside the things they have always believed: that loyalty is larger than the herd instinct, that someone in charge will do the right thing, that the family is a haven from a heartless world. Alford argues that few whistleblowers recover from their experience, and that, even then, they live in a world very different from the one they knew before their confrontation with the organization.

Across the city, gangster Sean Rafferty is preparing to exploit the corrupt city council through a multi-million-pound leisure development known as Riverside. The project will be good for Glasgow. Book excerpt: "Mel Goodman has spent the last few decades telling us what's gone wrong with American intelligence and the American military . . . he is also telling us how to save ourselves."--Seymour M. Hersh, The New Yorker "Whistleblower at the CIA offers a fascinating glimpse into the secret, behind-the-scenes world of U.S. intelligence. Melvin A. Goodman's first-person account of the systematic manipulation of intelligence at the CIA underscores why whistleblowing is so important, and why the institutional obstacles to it are so intense. . . . At its core it's an invaluable historical expose, a testimony to integrity and conscience, and a call for the U.S. intelligence community to keep its top leaders in check. Urgent, timely, and deeply recommended."--Daniel Ellsberg "Mel Goodman shines a critical whistleblower light into the dark recesses of the CIA as a former insider. His book serves in the public interest as a warning and wake-up call for what's at stake and why we cannot trust the CIA or the intelligence establishment to do the right thing."—Thomas Drake, former NSA senior executive and whistleblower "Mel Goodman's Whistleblower at the CIA is not just an insider's look at politics at the highest levels of government. It's also a personal account of the political odyssey Goodman had to negotiate for telling the truth. The CIA likes for its employees to believe that everything is a shade of grey. But some things are black or white, right or wrong. Mel Goodman did what was right. He may have paid with his career, but he's on the right side of history."—John Kiriakou, former CIA Counterterrorism Officer and former Senior Investigator, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Melvin Goodman's long career as a respected intelligence analyst at the CIA, specializing in US/Soviet relations, ended abruptly. In 1990, after twenty-four years of service, Goodman resigned when he could no longer tolerate the corruption he witnessed at the highest levels of the Agency. In 1991 he went public, blowing the whistle on top-level officials and leading the opposition against the appointment of Robert Gates as CIA director. In the widely covered Senate hearings, Goodman charged that Gates and others had subverted "the process and the ethics of intelligence" by deliberately misinforming the White House about major world events and covert operations. In this breathtaking expose, Goodman tells the whole story. Retracing his career with the Central Intelligence Agency, he presents a rare insider's account of the inner workings of America's intelligence community, and the corruption, intimidation, and misinformation that lead to disastrous foreign interventions. An invaluable and historic look into one of the most secretive and influential agencies of US government--and a wake-up call for the need to reform its practices. Melvin A. Goodman served as a senior analyst and Division Chief at the CIA from 1966 to 1990. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Harper's, and many others. He is author of six books on US intelligence and international security.

Book excerpt: This book sets out the history of "The American Experiment" in self-government focusing on its original legal documents, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. It discusses how and why such a 'Total Heresy' as self-government ever arose and has survived for nearly 250 years. One focus is on the original genius of the 'Separation of Powers' that has become so muddled since the Framers created the Constitution. The horror of the World Wars and key aspects of the Presidents from Eisenhower through Carter and the two Bushes are summarized. Presidents Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and Trump are discussed in increasing levels of detail. The failures of the Federal Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation beginning with the Enron prosecution are summarized. The issues of the appointment of Supreme Court Justices, immigration, and the rise of socialism/communism in America are discussed in some detail. The failed bloodless coup d'etat and impeachment attempts to remove President Trump from office are discussed in depth as are the climate change debate and the Green New Deal. The geopolitical world from Europe, to Russia, the Middle East, China and North Korea are discussed as they are directly affecting future American freedom. One of the last chapters discusses why western man and specifically America arrived at the pinnacle of civilization while others did not. Finally, the author closes with, "The Only Thing That Matters at the End of the Trail" - a summary of his wishes for not only his descendants, but all the World.

It's time for everyone to get in line and join in the new unity and spirit of uni-partisanship-or else! The first step in knowing what's expected of you is to understand the language of ditto-headedness, neo-conformism, neo-speak and good old ass kissing of the properly imposed authorities. You might as well join up because if you don't, you're against it and that makes you a terrorist. The smart thing to do is to go meekly with the flow, for the meek shall inherit the earth! That's right-it's time to forget everything you thought you knew and submit to the current rewrite of history, the new logic and the proper way to think. Do as you're told and everything you do will glorify the New American Century and the heroic, fearless leaders who shall guide us through endless war for peace, evermore prosperity for the rich and a righteous submission of state to Church!

Book excerpt: Aiden’s lifelong struggle against Seven, a deceptive demonic being that has sought to control him ever since he was a child, reaches a new level when Aiden teams up with his son, Gael, who has formed a group called the Whistleblowers. They are dedicated to fighting against the evil Lamia and her army of followers, who are trying to take over the city. Lamia is growing desperate, leading her to open a portal imbued with her own blood: a gateway to a place where no Paragon agent dares travel. Only one person other than Lamia and her children may open the door, and that person is Aiden. Therefore, he must locate the gateway and banish it from the earthly plane before it’s too late. But nothing in this epic battle is ever easy, especially when family is involved. Although Gael saved Aiden from becoming the dragon, he still doesn’t trust him, and on his worst days, he might even hate him. But if Gael, Aiden, and the Whistleblowers are to be victorious, all of them must learn the true meaning of the word “sacrifice” and everything that it demands from themselves and each other. If Aiden makes it out the other side, he might just be able to break Seven’s stranglehold on his life forever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-first century witnessed a new age of whistleblowing in the United States. Disclosures by Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden, and others have stoked heated public debates about the ethics of exposing institutional secrets, with roots in a longer history of state insiders revealing privileged information. Bringing together contributors from a range of disciplines to consider political, legal, and cultural dimensions, Whistleblowing Nation is a pathbreaking history of national security disclosures and state secrecy from World War I to the present. The contributors explore the complex politics, motives, and ideologies behind the revelation of state secrets that threaten the status quo, challenging reductive characterizations of whistleblowers as heroes or traitors. They examine the dynamics of state retaliation, political backlash, and civic contests over the legitimacy and significance of the exposure and the whistleblower. The volume considers the growing power of the executive branch and its consequences for First Amendment rights, the protection and prosecution of whistleblowers, and the rise of vast classification and censorship regimes within the national-security state. Featuring analyses from leading historians, literary scholars, legal experts, and political scientists, Whistleblowing Nation sheds new light on the tension of secrecy and transparency, security and civil liberties, and the politics of truth and falsehood.

I thought that the grass was greener on the other side of the World... and it was. I was running towards the Sunshine; where everyone was happy, life was good...but it wasn’t. I wanted to be Famous! I wanted everyone to know Ms. Boss Lady! That was “my” plan...but it wasn’t God’s plan. I asked God for this Journey, but I wanted to do it my way; I wanted God to just, “get me to California”, and I would take it from there. I didn’t know “what was going to happen along the way”. Before I knew it, I began my Journey to beautiful sunny California! God brought me to a different world, that I knew nothing about; and since I wanted to do it “my way”, he released me amongst People, Places and Things that I never saw before, who I didn’t understand. The only “Armor”, God gave me to survive was Faith and Belief; along with what he had given me from Birth, which was “Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding; and that became a very important tool for my survival; the “Faith and Belief” was the Key. I had the Key, but I didn’t know it. My Journey would become my “Life Story”. If I wanted to be successful, in my Journey, I had to do it God’s way, I had to learn the “hard way”. What I went through was, not to “test” me, but to “challenge” my Faith and my Belief, and it was hard! The Trials, and Tribulations was horrific, I fought Giants that tried to stop me, the Storms just kept coming. I lost everything in those Storms, I wasn’t living, I was just existing. Where was God!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managing the Insider Threat: No Dark Corners and the Rising Tide Menace, Second Edition follows up on the success of – and insight provided by – the first edition, reframing the insider threat by distinguishing between sudden impact and slow onset (aka “rising tide”) insider attacks. This edition is fully updated with coverage from the previous edition having undergone extensive review and revision, including updating citations and publications that have been published in the last decade. Three new chapters drill down into the advanced exploration of rising tide threats, examining the nuanced complexities and presenting new tools such as the loyalty ledger (Chapter 10) and intensity scale (Chapter 11). New explorations of ambiguous situations and options for thwarting hostile insiders touch on examples that call for tolerance, friction, or radical turnaround (Chapter 11). Additionally, a more oblique discussion (Chapter 12) explores alternatives for bolstering organizational resilience in circumstances where internal threats show signs of gaining ascendancy over external ones, hence a need for defenders to promote clearer thinking as a means of enhancing resilience against hostile insiders. Coverage goes on to identify counters to such pitfalls, called lifelines, providing examples of questions rephrased to encourage clear thinking and reasoned debate without inviting emotional speech that derails both. The goal is to redirect hostile insiders, thereby offering alternatives to bolstering organizational resilience – particularly in circumstances where internal threats show signs of gaining ascendancy over external ones, hence a need for defenders to promote clearer thinking as a means of enhancing resilience against hostile insiders. Defenders of institutions and observers of human rascality will find, in Managing the Insider Threat, Second Edition, new tools and applications for the No Dark Corners approach to countering a vexing predicament that seems to be increasing in frequency, scope, and menace.

Her half-naked body was found in his Winnebago, parked at a local campground. Stratton is found next to her; unconscious, and with a head and hand injury his blood alcohol level off the scale. Stratton´s last memory is arriving unannounced at his Encino home, where he discovered his wife, Shiela, playing house with Gordon Heller his best friend, former law partner, and a co-participant in the insider-trading scheme that sent Stratton to prison. When C. J. Hagerty, the feisty and eccentric female attorney appointed to defend Stratton, wins a bail hearing, Stratton sets out to discover if he, or someone else, killed Diane Lawson. Her twin sister, Laura, stood to inherit a sizable estate. Her ex-husband, whom she dumped, was still in love with her. And then there is her boss, Martin Kolb, President and CEO of Quella Industries, a high-flying local defense contractor, who Diane threatened with a "whistleblower" lawsuit.
