Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book mostly deals with the poignancy of dreams and how transient they are. The poems also deal with the way the world appears to the eyes of the author describing the emotions and states of mind that he thinks in. In many ways this collection of poetry is more like a lyrical commentary of the author's take on what it takes to live in todays modern world of fast pace and fleeting dreams.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certain questions are basic to the human condition: how we imagine the world, and ourselves and others within it; how we confront the constraints of language and the limits of our own minds; and how we use imagination to give meaning to past experiences and to shape future ones. These are the questions James Boyd White addresses in The Edge of Meaning, exploring each through its application to great works of Western culture—Huckleberry Finn, the Odyssey, and the paintings of Vermeer among them. In doing so, White creates a deeply moving and insightful book and presents an inspiring conception of mind, language, and the essence of living.

In a clear-cut voice "as simple as ink," Mathias Svalina's THE WINE-DARK SEA vocalizes the urge to write oneself alive. Through this lyric journal of taut poems, each titled The Wine-Dark Sea, Svalina breathes life into overlooked places: the driveway a car turns into at the end of a workday, how a tree holds the dirt, the edge of a page on which "I'd always assumed / I'd die alone." Every poem is a baffled drop, a pulse trying not to be dead, and beneath the spine of each sentence, Svalina hides, carrying us, seeking an exit. It is impossible not to be stained by THE WINE-DARK SEA.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her poetry, the author attempts to create a view of the world through poetic lenses. Writing in several genres, she aims to stretch readers’ imaginations and challenge unsettled scores with nature, love, and man’s will. She accomplishes this through a frame that draws on insight and questions about this and other realms. The poet’s use of the narrative, free-verse, and rhyme stroke images imbedded in the readers’ mind and heart to coax them to the surface. Through a palette painted with joy, her poetry depicts the fragility of blossoms and the warmth that embraces spiritual awareness. In Wedged – The Poetic Edge, two short stories and one hundred and twenty five poems depicting life through humor, history, and culture, swinging from moods of happiness and sadness, are blended to create a unique reading experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An example of Poe’s melancholic and morbid poetic pieces, "A Dream Within a Dream" is a poem that pitifully mourns the passing of time. The poet’s own life, teeming with depression, alcoholism, and misery, cannot but exemplify the subject matter and tone of the poem. The constant dilution of reality and fantasy is detrimental to the poetic speaker’s ability to hold reality in his hands. The quiet contemplation of the speaker is contrasted with thunderous passing of time that waits for no man. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American poet, author, and literary critic. Most famous for his poetry, short stories, and tales of the supernatural, mysterious, and macabre, he is also regarded as the inventor of the detective genre and a contributor to the emergence of science fiction, dark romanticism, and weird fiction. His most famous works include "The Raven" (1945), "The Black Cat" (1943), and "The Gold-Bug" (1843).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry on Love, Lust & Loss is my poetry diary. In the moments when my emotions are the most intense and to the surface, writing them down like this is how I sort out what's happening with me. Putting pen to paper and noting what I'm feeling in the same moment that I'm experiencing it, I find, helps me to tap into elements of it, which I might not be able access in the same way again. Volume 2 delves into heartache and longing. It explores meeting a few Mr. Wrongs, longing for things I shouldn't and finding my way to the other end of the dark tunnel of these years. I hope that you'll be able to identify with the twenty-something girl I was here, who was trying to navigate and battle with the ebb and flow of LOVE, the pleasure and torment of LUST and the devastating impact of LOSS... (of love).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study consists of two parts. The first part offers an overview of feminism's theory of differences. The second part deals with the textual analysis of poems about 'mothering' by women from India, the Caribbean and Africa. Literary criticism has dealt with the representation of 'mothering' in prose texts. The exploration of lyrical texts has not yet come. Since the late 1970s, the acknowledgement of and the commitment to difference has been foundational for feminist theory and activism. This investigation promotes a differentiated, 'locational' feminism (Friedman). The comprehensive theoretical discussion of feminism's different concepts of 'gender', 'race', 'ethnicity' and 'mothering' builds the foundation for the main part: the presentation and analysis of the poems. The issue of 'mothering' foregrounds the communicative aspect of women's experience and wants to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This study, however, does not intend to specify 'mothering' as a universal and unique feminine characteristic. It underlines a metaphorical use and discusses the concepts of 'nurturing', 'maternal practice' and 'social parenthood'. Regarding the extensive material, this study understands itself as an explorative not concluding investigation placed at the intersections of gender studies, postcolonial and classical literary studies. Most of all, it aims at initiating a dialogue and interchange between scholars and students in the Western and the 'Third World'.

Book excerpt: "These poems hover in and out of dreams, follow the mind's wild wanderings, interrogate language, reveal the heart's ambitions, all the while remaining brilliantly anchored to the physicality of all things earthbound. This is a book that lives as much in the curious mind as it does in the undeniable weather of the real world..." Ada Limón.
