Book Synopsis Hug Someone You Love Today by : Michael A. Pickles
Download or read book Hug Someone You Love Today written by Michael A. Pickles and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my fourth year of teaching, I had the great privilege of working with an amazing educator by the name of Miss Bezanson. She taught a grade four class to whom I taught Physical Education. Therefore, I had the opportunity to socialize with her on a daily basis. About six months into the school year, Miss Bezanson gave me something that would forever change my teaching techniques and my life, although I did not realize it at that moment. One afternoon, I was in Miss Bezanson's class discussing a student who was displaying increasing behavioural problems in my Physical Education class. Sensing that I was experiencing tremendous stress as a result of this student, she gave me something that touched my heart and reinforced an important life lesson. She handed me a small paper card entitled "Hug Someone You Love Today". That was it! No preachy sermon or fancy teaching strategies. At that moment, I realized that maybe all that child needed was a simple hug. A sign of affection which he may or may not have been receiving at home. So the next day, I gave him a "Hug Someone You Love Today" card. From that day forward, I never had another major problem with that student. It was absolutely amazing. In this book, I will share with you some of the heart-felt, true stories that I have accumulated over the years as a result of passing out these "Hug Someone You Love Today" cards along to those in need. These are stories about normal folks like you and I, whose lives have been positively changed as a result of receiving this simple card. As you read these stories, hopefully you will begin to feel more peaceful and loving yourself.

Book Synopsis Howard Elman's Farewell by : Ernest Hebert
Download or read book Howard Elman's Farewell written by Ernest Hebert and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part Falstaff, part King Lear, but all American, Howard Elman was a fifty-something workingman when he burst onto the literary scene in The Dogs of March, the first novel of the Darby Chronicles. Now in this, its seventh installment, the Darby constable is an eighty-something widower who wants to do "a great thing" before he motors off into the sunset. Maybe Howard achieves this goal, but he manages it in strange, wonderful, and dangerous ways. On his quest he's aided, abetted, hindered, and befuddled by his middle-aged children, his hundred-year-old hermit friend Cooty Patterson, a voice in his head, and the person he loves most, his grandson, Birch Latour. At 24, Birch has returned to Darby with his friends to take over the stewardship of the Salmon Trust and to launch a video game, Darby Doomsday. At stake is the fate of Darby. And the world? Maybe. Howard Elman's Farewell begins as a coming of (old) age story, morphs into a murder mystery, expands into a family saga, and in the end might just follow Howard Elman into the spirit world. This is a novel for people who like New England fiction with humor, pathos, and just a touch of magical realism. Howard Elman's Farewell establishes Howard Elman—mill worker, trash man, town cop—as the most fully developed working class character in American fiction.
