It will take every supernatural power at her disposal to defend and protect her home and her people, but in doing so, Echo must relinquish the one thing she has held onto tightly since childhood: the truth about who and what she is. Echo and her supernatural family discover the truth behind the darkness... and the battle is on.
Book Synopsis Management of Multimedia on the Internet by : Ehab S. Al-Shaer
Download or read book Management of Multimedia on the Internet written by Ehab S. Al-Shaer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-10-10 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years we have witnessed the explosion of multimedia traffic on the Internet. The availability of high bandwidth connections together with the recent advances in high quality video and audio compression techniques have created a fertile ground for the growth of multimedia applications such as interactive video on demand, collaborative distance learning, and remote medical diagnosis. Furthermore, the availability of low bit rate video and audio applications (e.g., H.263 and G.728) and the proliferation of pervasive devices create a new demand for wireless multimedia communication systems. After a decade or more of research and development in multimedia networking, the research community has learned a number of lessons. First, increasing the capacity of the “best effort” networks and services does not provide an effective and permanent solution for offering a guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). Second, the integration of service and network management is a key element in providing end to end service management. Third, management techniques for Internet multimedia services must be scalable and adaptive to guarantee QoS and maintain fairness with optimal network resource.

Book Synopsis by United States. Introduction to sonar by : United States. Bureau of Naval Personnel
Download or read book by United States. Introduction to sonar written by United States. Bureau of Naval Personnel and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-09-29 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SONAR (sound navigation and ranging) systems have many similarities to RADAR and electro-optical systems. Again, detection is based on the propagation of waves between the target and detector. There are active sonar systems, where the wave propagates from the transmitter to the target and back to the receiver, analogous to pulse-echo radar. There are also passive sonar systems, where the target is the source of the energy which propagates to the receiver, analogous to passive infrared detection. Therefore, a great deal of what has been discussed about these systems will also apply to sonar. Sonar, however, differs fundamentally from radar and electro-optics because the energy is transferred by acoustics waves propagating in water. So we first begin by discussing the characteristics of acoustic waves.

Download or read book Acoustic Echo Sounding as Related to Air Pollution in Urban Environments written by W. R. Simmons and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of operating an acoustic echo sounder in an urban or industrial environment, without serious degradation in performance and without contributing to noise pollution, is confirmed. Anechoic absorbers placed about the acoustic antenna are the key to improving the sounder performance. Optimum operating frequencies are between 1 and 2 kHz. The design and operation of the all solid state circuitry is described.

Book Synopsis The Neural Basis of Echolocation in Bats by : George D. Pollak
Download or read book The Neural Basis of Echolocation in Bats written by George D. Pollak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brain of an echo locating bat is devoted, in large part, to analyzing sound and conducting behavior in a world of sounds and echoes. This monograph is about analysis of sound in the brainstem of echolocating bats and concerns the relationship between brain structure and brain function. Echolocating bats are unique subjects for the study of such relationships. Like man, echolocating bats emit sounds just for the purpose of listening to them. Simply by observing the bat's echolocation sounds, we know what the bat listens to in nature. We therefore have a good idea what the bat's auditory brain is designed to do. But this alone does not make the bat unique. The brain of the bat is, by mammalian standards, rather primitive. The unique aspect is the combination of primitive characteristics and complex auditory processing. Within this small brain the auditory structures are hypertrophied and have an elegance of organization not seen in other mammals. It is as if the auditory pathways had evolved while the rest of the brain remained evolutionary quiescent.
