Download or read book Trading Stones written by ,D.L.Rutledge and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-01-25 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Daniel. I’m seventy-one years old and I’m dying. This is my love story, of loving women-—young and old; some with great passion, others delicately but always profoundly. Love is profound. Love is very profound. And, for me...being aware of that truth, the epiphany, came to me late. It would be best to learn it early, but the knowledge is available...always. It’s my story of the love I have for my best buddy—a friendship that’s endured and has been important for over a half century, the undemanding love of dog and master, and the special love of mentor and prodigy. I have always felt a bit like an alien in this world. I’ve looked at myself from the outside looking inward...judging my actions, my behaviors—what I thought, what I felt. Sometimes I was glad at what I saw, and other times deeply disappointed, but my view was always objective. Never a cheerleader yelling, wanting a particular outcome; always looking back with cool, maybe even cold objectivity. With a few rare exceptions, people under fifty have little concern about their mortality. They think they’ll live forever. Death is a foreign thought. I understand. I didn’t spend much time thinking about it either. That’s natural. But you’re wrong. Death is closer than you realize; sometimes a blink away.
Book Synopsis The Uncertain Generation by : Arnold Hokanson
Download or read book The Uncertain Generation written by Arnold Hokanson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story, The Uncertain Generation, is a follow-up to the authors first novel, The Uncertainties of Life. While, both novels are a work of fiction, The Uncertainties of Life, covers the problems, the hardships, and the triumphs, of ranch life over a large part of the twentieth century. It also served to point out how the problems of the world, eventually, came to effect ranchers and ranches, even, in the most remote areas. The Uncertain Generation, brings us up to the mid nineteen-nineties. While, the ranch setting remains the same, the grandson, the third generation, has taken over the operation of the ranch, and while basic ranching practices remain somewhat the same, finds himself faced with problems completely different from those of his forbearers. The largest problem being that he is locked into a running battle with a giant corporation, where some of the top personnel show more interest in personal gain than in company profits, and are willing to use any approach to obtain their goals. Although, friendships remain strong, and ranchers continue to be dedicated to one another, and work together in a helpful manner, while at times chiding one another in a good natured manner. The change in the type of livestock and equipment, used in some cases, as well as in morals of the times is quite evident, and also how such change is accepted. The story also shows how inflation has reflected upon the attitudes of people, as our hero is willing to put everything on the line in hopes of making that big score that people of the past just dreamed about. Add a beautiful woman, who fits into todays business world, to tempt a lonely bachelor. Our heros frequent reflections upon his previous generations, while making comparisons to his own position in life, and, The Uncertain Generation, all adds up to a story of mystery, romance, violence, and even financial manipulation, accustomed to our times.

Feitell’s characters deal with shifting dynamics in relationships—whether they be best friends, lovers, family, or even strangers—that consistently leave them torn between two places or commitments. In the title story, Janie has undergone a painful childbirth experience and her group of friends must pioneer new dynamics while she wonders how to bring her old self back. In “Bike New York!” amid thirty thousand cyclists, a man on the brink of marriage meets a young girl who, in a tiny Brooklyn bakery, affirms both who he has been and who he is going to be. On this short detour from normal life he comes to understand “the funny thing about finding your way in the world. There was a place laid out for you . . . and even as you stepped into it, happy for the chance to rest, you wondered how you ever ended up there.” Funny, big-hearted, and deft, Here Beneath Low-Flying Planes navigates the reader through the life that happens when you’re planning other things. It is a collection of experiences, roads not taken, and the intense and unforeseen sparks of connection we hope for.

Book Synopsis Z-Burbia: The Road Trip Trilogy by : Jake Bible
Download or read book Z-Burbia: The Road Trip Trilogy written by Jake Bible and published by Jake Bible Fiction. This book was released on with total page 759 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Z-Burbia 4: Cannibal Road: Description- Forced out of Asheville, Jace Stanford’s family, along with a convoy of suburbanites, misfits, criminals, and soldiers, must battle their way through the I-40 corridor of Eastern Tennessee. When they are separated from their friends and allies in Knoxville, the Stanfords have to rely on their skills as post-apocalyptic survivors to fight off the Zs, insane Vols fans, homicidal sorority girls, and the most deadly of the post-apocalyptic threats- cannibal gangs! No longer are the Stanfords trying to survive day by day, but hour by hour and minute by minute, as they flee Z-Burbia and race through the hellscape of Cannibal Road! Reviews- “Once again Mr. Bible has cracked me up in the zombie apocalypse! Jace is still funny as hell, I love him. Elsbeth is still bad ass and she is my favorite. Stella and the kids brought out some cans of whoop ass as well!” -Melissa Martin, 5-star Goodreads review “I'm running out of things to say about how much I love this series. Each book is just as good as the last.” -Jennifer Wheeler, 5-star Goodreads review Z-Burbia 5: The Bleeding Heartland: Description- The American Midwest was a bucolic landscape that didn’t quite adjust to the zombie apocalypse. Instead of open arms and welcoming faces, there are now open mouths and ravenous Zs. The blue collar drive to work hard has become a red-mouthed hunger for flesh. Jace Stanford, his family, and the rag tag bunch of Whispering Pines survivors, private military contractors, laborers, and former (hopefully?) cannibals now must face the vast, exposed space of America’s Heartland in order to get to a possible sanctuary in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Boulder, Colorado. Just a simple convoy from point A to point B, right? Yeah, right. Nothing is ever simple in Z-Burbia! Z-Burbia 6: Rocky Mountain Die: Description- With the plains to their backs, Jace Stanford and crew are just steps from their destination: the Stronghold of Boulder, CO. All they have to do is battle the mega-powerful, corporate/political/military entity that is the Consortium, survive the brainwashed killing machines that call themselves the Sisters, and deal with a mad scientist hell bent on making life really, really hard for everyone because he’s just a f*ing jerk. Not a problem! If anyone can get his friends and family through a nightmare like this, it’s Jace Stanford! What’s that? There’s a horde of zombies that’s close to half a million strong coming for them all? Okay, everyone’s screwed… It is Z-Burbia after all!
