Book excerpt: A generational memoir of the American suburbs, Pull Me Up is a deeply affecting book. With prose that to Frank McCourt "flashes with poetry," New York Times columnist Dan Barry tells the story of an unforgettable American family. He writes so crisply that we not only feel his emotions but also recall our own: the joy of Little League, the thrill of small-town reporting, the pain of losing a parent, and the fear of facing a life-threatening illness. Barry's writing has its own stalwart beauty, a single melody teased out of the American symphony. Here is the voice of an authentic American writer.

Book excerpt: Welcome to Panic, a sultry Miami nightclub where bodies and hearts move to a beat that doesn’t stop at sunrise—the setting for “a magnificent story full of deep emotion” (Sawyer Bennett). Katherine: I thought I could enjoy a night out like a normal person. I thought I could handle the flashing lights, the pulsing music, the crowded dance floor. I couldn’t have been more wrong. After having an anxiety attack and passing out during my sister’s engagement party at Panic, I wake up in the arms of the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. Nick Moreno’s no gentleman. But he might just be the man I need to help me take control of my life. Nick: When I hear there’s some random girl passed out in the back room of my family’s South Beach nightclub, I’m pissed. My dad’s already behind bars and we can’t afford any more bad press. But after giving her a lift—literally—back to her apartment, I stop seeing Katherine Wilson as some random girl. She’s gorgeous, vulnerable, and braver than she knows. And when we kiss, all I want to do is pull her close and promise that she’ll always be safe in my arms. No cheating. No cliffhangers. And no dress code. Don’t miss Sidney Halston’s Panic series: PULL ME CLOSE | MAKE ME STAY | KISS ME BACK | WHAT ABOUT US And look for all of her hard-hitting MMA romances: AGAINST THE CAGE | FULL CONTACT | BELOW THE BELT | LAID OUT | FIGHTING DIRTY | STACKED UP Praise for Pull Me Close “Pull Me Close is a heart-gripping story about one of the most beautiful things in the world: the power of love.”—New York Times bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds “Pull Me Close is a magnificent story full of deep emotion that will get you straight in the feels. Download or read book The Unseen written by Nanni Balestrini and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2012-01-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a brief explosive period in the mid-1970s, the young and the unemployed of Italy’s cities joined the workers in an unexpectedly militant movement known simply as Autonomy (Autonomia). Its “politics of refusal” united its opponents behind draconian measures more severe than any seen since the war. Nanni Balestrini, the poet of youth rebellion, himself a victim of that repression, has invented a remarkable fictional form to express the hopes and conflicts of the movement. In spare but vivid prose, The Unseen follows Autonomy’s trajectory through the eyes of a single working-class protagonist—from high-school rebellion, squatting and attempts to set up a free radio station to arrest and the brutalities of imprisonment. This is a powerful and gripping novel: a rare evocation of the intensity of commitment, the passion of politics.
Download or read book Rees Howells written by Norman Grubb and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best known as the founder of the Bible College of Wales, Rees Howells was a man of little worldly fame, yet through Norman Grubb's best-selling biography, his life story is known to millions. Born in a Welsh mining village, he left school at twelve and worked in a tin mill and a coal mine. As he came to know the redeeming power of his Lord and Saviour he faced the implications of an entire surrender, learned to love the unlovely and found the key to the power of prayer. As a result he became a man of great Christian inspiration to others in both Britain and Southern Africa where he became the channel of a mighty revival. Norman Grubb describes all this, but also the foundation of the Bible College of Wales at Swansea, perhaps the greatest monument of his work, and the intercessory prayer that became the hallmark of Rees Howells, impacting as it did on national policy and international affairs. Rees Howells' life was so great that the Church of Christ still feels the impact of his truths of the Spirit and the Scriptures in a unique and amazing way. Every chapter in this biography is full of drama and light. Rees Howells, Intercessor is an enthralling story, told with simplicity, humanity and humour, and it has proved an inspiration for nearly half a century.

Hunger in American: Hunger in America is out of control when people have to line up to get food from food pantries, church pantries and/or homeless shelters. There was a report on the new hunger in America since the recession from Web history. It listed 12% of California households struggle with hunger between 2006 and 2008, but likely higher to this date. Hunger in America stated that in Illinois rising demands on food banks, especially in Cook County has these types of customers: middle class and suddenly out of work in the midst of the recession. According to Feeding America, the National Hunger-Relief Network did a study on the fact that Cook County is not the only county struggling and to be fair the demand has increase 65% in DuPage County, where it was not considered a major problem to go hunger until the recession hit hard. It was the feelings of shame and embarrassment among the newly poor that brought these people to another countys food pantry in order not to be recognized in their own countys food pantry. If they did not go, they do not eat. Detroit, MI has the highest unemployment in the nation, so they struggle with hunger and housing. New York has the largest increase in demand for food assistance since 1991; this is not just about California, Illinois, Michigan or New York because people are hunger all over the USA and world, especially kids. This breaks my HEART to see or hear of kids or anybody hunger from the lack of food. This is why part of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to each states food depositories so they can supply food to food pantries and homeless shelters, etc. I need everyone to buy this book to lend a helping hand to others in need. Part of the proceeds from sale of this book will help Haiti for a month. Thanks and God bless! Personally speaking, this is not a black or white problem because it affects all people, which makes this a sad story when so many people are hunger. HELP! Homelessness in USA: Homelessness statistics cover areas related to the homeless and hunger and include numbers of the highest rate of increase since the recession of 1991. The largest and fastest growing homeless are families. Because there are so many homeless people, they have setup new tent cities and other large homeless encampments to keep up with the demands. This is by National Alliance to end Homelessness. Tents cities highlights are the new realities as recession wears on after foreclosures force families from their homes, March 26, 2009. Economy Bytes reported on May 18, 2010, the National Alliance presents the state of doubled-up families. The brief examines the implications of the increase in doubled-up families and reflects on how the situation speaks to the recessions impact of homelessness. The New Poor in USA since the Recession: Call them the new poor because these people long accus
