Download or read book The Coldest Coast written by P. J. Capelotti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the 1873 voyage of the British explorer Benjamin Leigh Smith, based on the diaries and photographs of Lieutenant Herbert C. Chermside, who joined the expedition of the seas around Svalbard. Chermside’s photographs, long believed lost, have recently been uncovered in Sweden and are being curated there by the Grenna Museum. The three unpublished diaries of Herbert Chermside were lent to the Scott Polar Research Institute in 1939 by Mrs. Benjamin Leigh Smith. For the first time, Chermside’s diaries are published in their entirety, with the original photographs shown alongside modern images of the same locations. This includes the first photographic record of the north coast of Svalbard, images that are today being used as comparative data for the study of climate change in the archipelago. The diaries have been fully transcribed and edited. Introductory chapters are included, written by specialists in the history of exploration, history of science, and the history of photography from Penn State University, the University of Gothenburg, and UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, as well as contributors from the UK and Germany. This volume is published in association with Grenna Museum, which will present Chermside’s photographs in a 2022 exhibit on Leigh Smith and A.E. Nordenskiold.

Book Synopsis Emergent Strategy by : adrienne maree brown
Download or read book Emergent Strategy written by adrienne maree brown and published by AK Press. This book was released on 2017-03-20 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Octavia Butler, here is radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help to shape the futures we want. Change is constant. The world, our bodies, and our minds are in a constant state of flux. They are a stream of ever-mutating, emergent patterns. Rather than steel ourselves against such change, Emergent Strategy teaches us to map and assess the swirling structures and to read them as they happen, all the better to shape that which ultimately shapes us, personally and politically. A resolutely materialist spirituality based equally on science and science fiction: a wild feminist and afro-futurist ride! adrienne maree brown, co-editor of Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction from Social Justice Movements, is a social justice facilitator, healer, and doula living in Detroit.

Book Synopsis An Evocative Autoethnography of Living Alongside Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) by : Orlagh Farrell Delaney
Download or read book An Evocative Autoethnography of Living Alongside Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) written by Orlagh Farrell Delaney and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking book explores and explains the day-to-day realities of living long-term with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). ME is an acquired complex disorder characterised by a variety of symptoms affecting multiple systems of the body. Marked fatigue and weakness, sickness, cognitive dysfunction and symptom flare-up can follow any physical or cognitive exertion. It is estimated that there are 17-24 million sufferers worldwide. The author has lived with moderately severe ME for the last 18 years. Utilising autoethnography as a methodology and drawing on multidisciplinary social science theory, the book tells the story of the author’s own lived experiences of the illness, and how she sought to reimagine a ‘self’ or a life living alongside the illness, that could still be considered a ‘good life’. This autoethnographic book is beautifully and evocatively written. It is a work of scholarship that will be highly accessible to academic and other readers. It is also a comprehensive introduction to autoethnography as a methodology, but it is much more. The images and poetry complement the narrative discussion, and are exemplary as part of an approach that integrates creative work with academic argument. It illuminates the struggles of living with ME and how there can be sanctuary.
Download or read book Angel Spells written by Maria D' Andrea and published by Inner Light - Global Communications. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO AN ANGEL - IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE - TO REQUEST ** GUIDANCE -- ** PROTECTION -- ** LOVE -- ** FINANCIAL REWARD -- ** RELIEF FROM ANXIETY AND STRESS -- - A RETURN TO SOBRIETY AND A RELEASE FROM ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ADDICTION AND BY GOD'S DIRECTIVE THEY MUST FULFILL YOUR REQUEST! For centuries, man has sought to reach out to God's servants and messengers in a real-world, palpable way that leaves no room for spiritual doubt. In the time of Queen Elizabeth I in England, world famous occultist Dr. John Dee and his helper, Edward Kelley, developed a system for contacting angels that came to be called "Enochian Magick." Dee's system has survived the centuries and been passed down to us. "ANGEL SPELLS - THE ENOCHIAN OCCULT WORKBOOK OF CHARMS, SEALS, TALISMANS AND CIPHERS" offers the reader a history lesson on Dee's method for contacting angels, including its origins in the Jewish and Christian mystical traditions. The book includes an exclusive interview with author Aaron Leitch, who still practices Dee's methods over 400 years later. For those not quite ready to dive into the more complex aspects of Enochian Angel magick, simpler - but just as effective - methods are taught here by psychic Maria D'Andrea, who provides step-by-step instructions to petition specific angels for help with any problem, large or small. A dozen talismans created my Ms D' Andrea are provided each corresponding with a different Arch Angel. And as a bonus supplement, we have included Bishop Allen Greenfield's classic work, "SECRET CIPHER OF THE UFONAUTS," to assist in contacting angelic aliens in their own language and to aid in decoding what they have spoken to us! This fascinating work includes all the talismans and symbols and ciphers you need to set up your own angel alter so that you may proceed with contacting the celestial kingdom in an organized effort.
