Book Synopsis Treating Mental Illness and Behavior Disorders in Children and Adults With Mental Retardation by : Anton Do en
Download or read book Treating Mental Illness and Behavior Disorders in Children and Adults With Mental Retardation written by Anton Do en and published by American Psychiatric Pub. This book was released on 2008-08-13 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1970s, the development of normalization philosophy and the implementation of community care policies have highlighted the nature and treatment of psychiatric and behavior disorders in people with mental retardation and rekindled the interest of scientists, psychiatric practitioners, and service providers. With these changes has grown a substantial body of new research and information on the phenomenology, epidemiology, classification, and clinical features of mental illness and behavior disorders in mentally retarded persons. In response to this growing interest and awareness, the editors, together with internationally renowned contributors from the United States and Europe, have compiled the first comprehensive handbook of the current theory and practice of mental health treatment and care in mentally retarded children and adults. Both contemporary and in-depth, this multidisciplinary, multidimensional volume covers all available therapeutic methods, including psychopharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, behavior therapies, cognitive therapy, and the systems approach for all the main diagnostic disorders in people with mental retardation. Parts I and II present an overview of epidemiology and clinical presentation, including research trends, and therapeutic methods, including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, behavioral therapies, cognitive and social learning treatments, and working with families and caregivers. Parts III and IV focus on psychotherapeutic interventions, such as rational emotive group treatment with dually diagnosed adults, pre-therapy for persons with mental retardation who are also psychotic, and systemic therapy, and how to apply these methods to the treatment of specific mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, and mood and anxiety disorders. Parts V and VI discuss how to treat behavior disorders such as aggression/self-aggression (pharmacotherapy and strategic behavioral interventions) and self-injurious behaviors (multimodal contextual approach), including group therapy for sex offenders and a pedagogical approach to behavior problems, and which treatment methods, such as psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, are most effective with children, including developmental-dynamic relationship therapy with more severely mentally retarded children. Parts VII and VIII provide guidance on mental health services and staff training, including psychiatric treatment in community care and a model for inpatient services for mentally ill persons with mental retardation, and the editors final chapter, which draws together all the various therapeutic approaches described in previous chapters to provide a practical framework for an integrative approach. Filling a major gap in the literature, this indispensable resource for psychiatrists, psychologists, and educators working with mentally retarded persons is also intended for general practitioners, doctors, social workers, and therapists working in the same or related fields.

Book Synopsis Textbook of Community Psychiatry by : Graham Thornicroft
Download or read book Textbook of Community Psychiatry written by Graham Thornicroft and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2001 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the practice of psychiatry has changed fundamentally. Mentally ill people have been moved out of the large institutions, with their clear structures and hierarchies, and into the community. This shift has required the development of new service structures, new facilities, new attitudes and new professional relationships. This book provides the first authoritative, international review of community psychiatry, taking into consideration theoretical as well as clinical issues. The key aim of the book is to review the status of community psychiatry throughout the developed world, presenting a comprehensive and critical exposition of the achievements, limitations and dilemmas in the theoretical base and the practical implementation of a community-based strategy. The book covers the available evidence base, gaps in that evidence base and describes, where possible, best practice for treatment and care. Current areas of theoretical and professional conflict are also covered. There are two main sections of the book; the first describes psychiatry for the community, in which the population needs for psychiatric care are considered. The second major section examines psychiatry in the community, describing how the service systems are designed to meet these needs. The final section of the book examines ethical issues and dilemmas. With 46 chapters from the leading international experts in the field, this book will be essential reading for all those working with the mentally ill in the 21st century.

Now in its 9th edition, the AMDP System is a widely used tool for documenting psychiatric symptoms in clinical and research projects. It is not only an essential part of many internal clinical documentation systems, but it is also a valuable instrument for training the identification of psychopathological symptoms. This new edition, now in English, involved the complete revision of the psychopathological and somatic symptoms, with particular attention to the elimination of ambiguities and inconsistencies, to the precision of definitions, to the exact differentiation of the self and other ratings, as well as to the user friendliness of the system. Taking account of developments in recent years in the description and rating of psychopathological symptoms, this latest edition of the AMDP System has been extended by an additional eleven psychopathological and three somatic symptoms and a new section on syndrome formation in the appendix. Book Synopsis Easy Language – Plain Language – Easy Language Plus by : Christiane Maaß
Download or read book Easy Language – Plain Language – Easy Language Plus written by Christiane Maaß and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2020-09-11 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how accessible communication, and especially easy-to-understand languages, should be designed in order to become instruments of inclusion. It examines two well-established easy-to-understand varieties: Easy Language and Plain Language, and shows that they have complementary profiles with respect to four central qualities: comprehensibility, perceptibility, acceptability and stigmatisation potential. The book introduces Easy and Plain Language and provides an outline of their linguistic, sociological and legal profiles: What is the current legal framework of Easy and Plain Language? What do the texts look like? Who are the users? Which other groups are involved in the production and use of Easy and Plain Language offers? Which qualities are a hazard to acceptability and, thus, enhance their stigmatisation potential? The book also proposes another easy-to-understand variety: Easy Language Plus. This variety balances the four qualities and is modelled in the present book.
