Round it she circles as it grows bigger, her path like the earth orbiting the sun. She orbit and spin, her path now like the Jupiter as it orbit the sun; She is weaving like Arachne making her web, waiting at a railway station. She goes forward she goes backwards, she is weaving, she goes up and down. For how long will she weave and weave? She weaves in knots she weaves in stitches. She weaves in niches she laughs in sketches; Weaving off the poetry basket She weaves like an Egyptian she crochets like an Indian She weaves with her hands, she braids with her feet Weaving like a loom she weaves like spider like a mantis. She threads with her chattering teeth, weaving sincerely the poetry basket, She weaves with her dry elbows and knees, she winds with her back She weaves with her long thigh; she twists with her bosom and long hair, Weaving boldly the poetry basket It is a reed basket, it is a bamboo basket. Until one morning a great thundering came rolling from the hills. Accompanied by a deafening whistle but no train was coming, she continued to weave, the sky thundered, the mockingbird whistled, she is weaving without fear she weaves without favour.

He went to school at Nyatate primary. This remote and small school is where Matimba believes his gift in poetry and fiction writing was created. After Nyatate, he went on to Mutare where he attended secondary school at Dangamvura High. This was another school that went on to strengthen his gift and also increase his thirst for writing. These schools played a role of providing books for him to read, since in those times there were no books at home. Being a quiet person; matimba's career was never identified by anyone throughout his life; as a result it was also never nurtured in any means by anyone. Being a great reader of English Literature, which was the main in the country's educational system in those days; his writing is influenced by such writers and their style. Currently; Matimba lives in Dangamvura, Mutare. He is married to Memory Mabhande (Wyson); and they have three children. He spends his free time playing chess with all his children. He also enjoys Long distance running (especially up the high hills of Dangamvura) with his partner, Nigel; who is also his first born son. He has also published a poetry collection; The Nature of My Signature, with Royalty Publishing USA.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry is fragments of music thrown into the air. The primary job and aim of a poet is to create these musical notes, to play these musical notes, and the wind will take these fragment notes, sounds, musics into the ears of listeners. Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology, Volume 2 is one of those winds among many others. As we all are aware of, when the wind travels it has no boundaries, it collects, it deposits, it mixes things up; you never know where that leaf you see the wind carrying will eventually be deposited, is there another wind, another element that is going to move that leaf to another place... We firmly believe it is a good wind. It will be able to push our poetry making in Zimbabwe into other frontiers. Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology, Volume 2 continues from where we left off with the first Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology we created in 2016. In this Volume 2, we have 77 poems from 30 poets and translators, which include among others; experienced poets, academic poets, street poets, emergent poets, beginning poets, all telling stories associated with what all these poets refer to as home, that is, Zimbabwe. It is an ongoing debate on what is Zimbabwe, what we want our Zimbabwe to be socially, culturally, politically…, thus we allowed every opinion space in this anthology, whether us editors agree with them or not. We have poets tackling issues to do with poetry, writing in general, art, place, identity, tradition, struggle, culture, gender, collective understanding, religion, individual, human rights and love, among others.

Archaeologists have found traces in digs, more than 7,000 years old in the Middle East, and anywhere where ancient civilizations settled. These vestiges of baskets showed that these people used baskets as the molds for clay cooking pots. That was because the imprint of the basket weave showed clearly on the clay. Plaited basket work has also been found in the Nile Delta some of which date back as early as 8000 BC. Many museums all over the world have a priceless collection of engine basket work usually shown along with ancient and early poetry and the common factor seems to be that baskets have always been made of any material available that is pliable, native, and the design and the type is going to be largely dependent on the availability of the material. The moment anybody talks about a basket you subconsciously associated with bringing home the shopping as these are nearly always used for carrying or holding things. In fact, I would not be surprised if you have one or 2 of these woven examples in your own house in the shape of lobster pots, especially if you are a looking fisherman, potato baskets to hold vegetables, especially if you are a farmer, decorative baskets for crediting a wine bottle, containers to hold flowers and fruit, containers for your table to hold bread rolls, wicker baskets, waste paper baskets, work baskets, lampshades, baby cribs, pet baskets, picnic campers, and houseplant holders… The uses of such baskets are global and infinite bound only by your creativity and imagination! This book is going to tell you all about how you can introduce yourself to this new satisfying craft, and start basket weaving when you have some leisurely time and energy over the weekend. You are definitely not going to be disappointed at the really attractive and soul satisfying final product and who knows, this may be a start of a beautiful new business!

Mattie and Sarah are two Mohawk sisters who are sent to an off-reservation school after the death of their mother. Subject to intimidation and corporal punishment, with little hope of contact with their father, the girls are taught menial tasks to prepare them for life as domestics. How Mattie and Sarah protect their culture, memories of their family life, and their love for each other makes for a powerful, unforgettable historical novel.

Book excerpt: "Weaving" is a book of poems in which the author searches for identity among the many, sometimes conflicting, vestiges of colonization, hybridity, immigration, and transformation. The author shares introspective thoughts in colorful vignettes as she introduces the reader to cultural and spiritual influences from her Mexican heritage. Poems like "Basket Weaving," "Trenzas," and "Branches" interlace, intertwine, and braid identities-all teetering on a temporal fence in this liminal space of tension, rejection, and acceptance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The methods of Indian basket weaving explained in this excellent manual are the very ones employed by native practitioners of the craft. members of the Navajo School of Basketry have set down their secrets in clear and simple language, enabling even the beginner to create work that can rival theirs in grace, design, and usefulness. Beginning with basic techniques, choice of materials, preparation of the reed, splicing, the introduction of color, principles and methods of design, shaping the basket and weaves from many cultures, such as Lazy Squaw, Mariposa, Taos, Samoan, Klikitat, and Shilo, each accompanied by specific instructions. There are suggestions for the weaving of shells, beads, feathers, fan palms, date palms, and even pine needles, and recipes for the preparation of dyes. Examples of each type of basket are illustrated by photographs, often taken from more than one angle so that the bottom can be seen as well as the top and sides. Close-up photography of the various types of stitching, especially at the crucial stage of beginning the basket, is an invaluable aid to the weaver. In addition, the authors have provided line drawings which are exceptionally clear magnifications of the various weave patterns. Anyone who follows the lessons contained in this book will have a knowledge of basketry unattainable in any other way. They are so lucid and complete that the amateur as well as the experienced weaver will be able to manufacture baskets distinguishable from authentic native articles only in that they were not woven by Indians. For those who merely seek a broader knowledge of American Indian arts, the book provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject of basketry.
