Book Synopsis Causes and Consequences of Income Inequality by : Ms.Era Dabla-Norris
Download or read book Causes and Consequences of Income Inequality written by Ms.Era Dabla-Norris and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyzes the extent of income inequality from a global perspective, its drivers, and what to do about it. The drivers of inequality vary widely amongst countries, with some common drivers being the skill premium associated with technical change and globalization, weakening protection for labor, and lack of financial inclusion in developing countries. We find that increasing the income share of the poor and the middle class actually increases growth while a rising income share of the top 20 percent results in lower growth—that is, when the rich get richer, benefits do not trickle down. This suggests that policies need to be country specific but should focus on raising the income share of the poor, and ensuring there is no hollowing out of the middle class. To tackle inequality, financial inclusion is imperative in emerging and developing countries while in advanced economies, policies should focus on raising human capital and skills and making tax systems more progressive.

Book Synopsis THE PSYCHOLOGY OF WEALTH by : Charles Richards
Download or read book THE PSYCHOLOGY OF WEALTH written by Charles Richards and published by . This book was released on 2022-08-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Financial success doesn't always depend on your knowledge. It has to do with your behavior. Even for extremely intelligent people, conduct is difficult to teach. Investment, personal finance, and business decisions are frequently taught as math-based subjects where data and formulas provide clear instructions. On a spreadsheet, however, people do not make financial decisions in the real world. They are made at the dinner table or in a meeting space, where personal history, your particular worldview, ego, pride, marketing, and strange incentives are all mixed up. Why do some people, regardless of how much money they have in their bank accounts, feel that they are always in a condition of scarcity and fear? Why is it that while some people approach financial goal-setting with dread, others do so with zeal and assurance? What distinguishes them? Could it have something to do with how they view money itself? People who have a positive relationship with money tend to have similar behaviors and characteristics. What are their diverse ways of thinking and doing? Can these actions be learned, or are they encoded in a person's psychology? In this thought-provoking book, Dr. Charles Richards, a psychotherapist, offers surprising and uplifting responses to these queries in this thought-provoking book. Dr. Richards demonstrates how each of us may have a fruitful relationship with money and build a wealthy and fulfilling life based on his research and interactions with experts. The experiences of individuals who bravely overcame adversity and had amazing lives form the book's core. Their experiences, together with Dr. Richards' conversations with finance professors, lawmakers, business owners, and other successful people, pave the way for a better future for all of us. We currently live in a challenging economic climate. Popular financial experts advise us to play it safe, stay put, and shield ourselves from the future's uncertainty every day. Dr. Richards responds to those who spread uncertainty and fear with optimism, moderation, and wisdom. Anyone who wants to succeed in their personal or professional lives and experience true success should read The Psychology of Wealth. It offers guiding principles for a better existence.
Book Synopsis The Wealth of Nature by : John Michael Greer
Download or read book The Wealth of Nature written by John Michael Greer and published by New Society Publisher. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wealth of Nature proposes a new model of economics based on the integral value of ecology. Building on the foundations of E.F. Schumacher's revolutionary "economics as if people mattered", this book examines the true cost of confusing money with wealth. By analyzing the mistakes of contemporary economics, it shows how an economy centered on natural capital-the raw materials that support human life-can move our society toward a more productive relationship with the planet that sustains us all. The Wealth of Nature suggests public policy initiatives and personal choices that can help alleviate the economic impact of peak oil. These strategies must address not only financial concerns, but the issues of resource depletion and pollution as well. Examples include: Adjusting tax policy to penalize the use of natural nonrenewable resources over recycled materials Placing public welfare above corporate interests Empowering individuals, families, and communities by prioritizing local, sustainable solutions Building economies at an appropriate scale. Profoundly insightful and impeccably argued, this book is required reading for anyone interested in the intersection of the environment and the economy as we enter the twilight of the Age of Abundance .
Book Synopsis Survey of Literature on Demand for Money by : Mr.Subramanian S. Sriram

This book was released on 1999-05-01 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stable money demand forms the cornerstone in formulating and conducting monetary policy. Consequently, numerous theoretical and empirical studies have been conducted in both industrial and developing countries to evaluate the determinants and the stability of the money demand function. This paper briefly reviews the theoretical work, tracing the contributions of several researchers beginning from the classical economists, and explains relevant empirical issues in modeling and estimating money demand functions. Notably, it summarizes the salient features of a number of recent studies that applied cointegration/error-correction models in the 1990s, and it features a bibliography to aid in research on demand for money.
Book Synopsis The Man Who Solved the Market by : Gregory Zuckerman
Download or read book The Man Who Solved the Market written by Gregory Zuckerman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Shortlisted for the Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award The unbelievable story of a secretive mathematician who pioneered the era of the algorithm--and made $23 billion doing it. Jim Simons is the greatest money maker in modern financial history. No other investor--Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch, Ray Dalio, Steve Cohen, or George Soros--can touch his record. Since 1988, Renaissance's signature Medallion fund has generated average annual returns of 66 percent. The firm has earned profits of more than $100 billion; Simons is worth twenty-three billion dollars. Drawing on unprecedented access to Simons and dozens of current and former employees, Zuckerman, a veteran Wall Street Journal investigative reporter, tells the gripping story of how a world-class mathematician and former code breaker mastered the market. Simons pioneered a data-driven, algorithmic approach that's sweeping the world. As Renaissance became a market force, its executives began influencing the world beyond finance. Simons became a major figure in scientific research, education, and liberal politics. Senior executive Robert Mercer is more responsible than anyone else for the Trump presidency, placing Steve Bannon in the campaign and funding Trump's victorious 2016 effort. Mercer also impacted the campaign behind Brexit. The Man Who Solved the Market is a portrait of a modern-day Midas who remade markets in his own image, but failed to anticipate how his success would impact his firm and his country. It's also a story of what Simons's revolution means for the rest of us.

Book Synopsis The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money by : John Maynard Keynes
Download or read book The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money written by John Maynard Keynes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally published by Macmillan in 1936. It was voted the top Academic Book that Shaped Modern Britain by Academic Book Week (UK) in 2017, and in 2011 was placed on Time Magazine's top 100 non-fiction books written in English since 1923. Reissued with a fresh Introduction by the Nobel-prize winner Paul Krugman and a new Afterword by Keynes’ biographer Robert Skidelsky, this important work is made available to a new generation. The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money transformed economics and changed the face of modern macroeconomics. Keynes’ argument is based on the idea that the level of employment is not determined by the price of labour, but by the spending of money. It gave way to an entirely new approach where employment, inflation and the market economy are concerned. Highly provocative at its time of publication, this book and Keynes’ theories continue to remain the subject of much support and praise, criticism and debate. Economists at any stage in their career will enjoy revisiting this treatise and observing the relevance of Keynes’ work in today’s contemporary climate.

Download or read book Crisis written by Sylvia Walby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are living in a time of crisis which has cascaded through society. Financial crisis has led to an economic crisis of recession and unemployment; an ensuing fiscal crisis over government deficits and austerity has led to a political crisis which threatens to become a democratic crisis. Borne unevenly, the effects of the crisis are exacerbating class and gender inequalities. Rival interpretations – a focus on ‘austerity’ and reduction in welfare spending versus a focus on ‘financial crisis’ and democratic regulation of finance – are used to justify radically diverse policies for the distribution of resources and strategies for economic growth, and contested gender relations lie at the heart of these debates. The future consequences of the crisis depend upon whether there is a deepening of democratic institutions, including in the European Union. Sylvia Walby offers an alternative framework within which to theorize crisis, drawing on complexity science and situating this within the wider field of study of risk, disaster and catastrophe. In doing so, she offers a critique and revision of the social science needed to understand the crisis.
