And if memory makes up your identity, what happens when you give that identity up? That was what 'Nowun' had to determine after agreeing to be sent to another world. A piling of coincidences and misfortune, the choice of an unorthodox power. If he wanted to avoid playing on the strings of the Goddess, he would need to circumvent her powers. And to do that, he made a gamble.

Book excerpt: Matilda Wolfblood is the first girl to be born a super-human in her family. Ever since the beginning of time, the male members of her family would battle chaos and were dedicated to protecting their homeland from outside threats in which normal humans are oblivious. Though she has been training since the tender age of three, she too is oblivious of such matters until sickness in her father causes her to search for a book of revelations which inevitably leads her and her friends to a world beyond comprehension. Summer Vacation is a fantasy epic prequel of blithe irony. In an alternative version of Earth where evil has as much chance to rule over the planet as good, a frail young woman's life is about to change for all eternity. With the aid of a small limbo creature, she must journey through Earth to safety from rival evils while carrying a child of both good and evil blood in her.

Book excerpt: EC Comics are widely credited for causing the dissolution of the morals of kids and teens in the 1950s, thus playing a large part in the public outcry over comics that led to Senate hearings condemning the sex and violence within their pages. Dark Horse brings their usual high quality design and production to the creation of collector's editions of these seminal comics.

Book excerpt: The magic and wonder of winter’s first snowfall is perfectly captured in Ezra Jack Keat’s Caldecott Medal-winning picture book. Young readers can enjoy this celebrated classic as a full-sized board book, perfect for read-alouds of all kinds and a great gift for the holiday season. In 1962, a little boy named Peter put on his snowsuit and stepped out of his house and into the hearts of millions of readers. Universal in its appeal, this story beautifully depicts a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever. This big, sturdy edition will bring even more young readers to the story of Peter and his adventures in the snow. Ezra Jack Keats was also the creator of such classics as Goggles, A Letter to Amy, Pet Show!, Peter’s Chair, and A Whistle for Willie. (This book is also available in Spanish, as Un dia de nieve.) Praise for The Snowy Day: “Keats made Peter’s world so inviting that it beckons us. Perhaps the busyness of daily life in the 21st century makes us appreciate Peter even more—a kid who has the luxury of a whole day to just be outside, surrounded by snow that’s begging to be enjoyed.” —The Atlantic "Ezra Jack Keats's classic The Snowy Day, winner of the 1963 Caldecott Medal, pays homage to the wonder and pure pleasure a child experiences when the world is blanketed in snow."—Publisher's Weekly

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs. Millionaire Short Story Book Series Volume 1 is a collection of fictional stories. Each story focuses on an unlucky family or individual who crosses paths with Mrs. Millionaire. We’ve all met people who have made significant life changes and overcome adversity, but only a few have gone through such a remarkable transformation. With so many stories of hope, encouragement, and life lessons to be learned, it only takes one to make a difference. Wild child. Reckless youth. Unruly. Obstinate. Matilde Jane Parker, or Tilly to her family and friends, is best known for her rebellious personality and reputation as a party girl. She is the daughter of a wealthy industrialist and grew up as an heiress and socialite in an upper-class family. She is intelligent and headstrong, but despises school and everything it stands for, although she performs admirably with little effort. Tilly enjoys causing mischief, and her out-of-control behavior worsens as she gets older. Tilly meets Dusty, the man of her dreams, and learns for the first time in her life what it means to give in and when to walk away from a relationship. Because of this experience, she gains a newfound appreciation for her family. Unfortunately, it was too late. In the blink of an eye, it turned her entire world upside down. Her parents were killed in a car accident. She resents being forced to mature to take over their family business, and she still feels this way after many years. Then, one day, a traumatic event changes her perception of herself. Someone attacked her in the underground parking lot of her building. Thankful for a stranger saving her, it has changed her outlook on life and helped her become a better person. Rather than living her life as a victim, she uses her power and wealth to help those who cannot defend themselves. Tilly finds herself in various situations and occasionally works as an amateur detective who helps people in need solve the problems she is involved in. This story depicts Matilde’s transformation from a troubled adolescent to a philanthropist. Nobody could have predicted that one day she would become a superhero without a mask or costume, assisting the poor, the homeless, and abandoned children.

Book excerpt: The Pali work, entitled 'the Jataka', the first volume of which is now presented to the reader in an English form, contains 550 Jatakas or Birth-stories, which are arranged in 22 nipatas or books. This division is roughly founded on the number of verses (gathas) which are quoted in each story; thus the first book contains 150 stories, each of which only quotes one verse, the second 100, each of which quotes two, the third and fourth 50 each, which respectively quote 3 and 4, and so on to the twenty-first with 5 stories, each of which quotes 80 verses, and the twenty-second with 10 stories, each quoting a still larger number. Each story opens with a preface called the paccuppannavatthu or 'story of the present', which relates the particular circumstances in the Buddha's life which led him to tell the birth-story and thus reveal some event in the long series of his previous existences as a bodhisatta or a being destined to attain Buddha-ship. This is volume 1, comprising the ‘Ekanipata.’.
