Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2011, The Jewish Annotated New Testament was a groundbreaking work, bringing the New Testament's Jewish background to the attention of students, clergy, and general readers. In this new edition, eighty Jewish scholars bring together unparalleled scholarship to shed new light on the text. This thoroughly revised and greatly expanded second edition brings even more helpful information and new insights to the study of the New Testament. · Introductions to each New Testament book, containing guidance for reading and specific information about how the book relates to the Judaism of the period, have been revised and augmented, and in some cases newly written. · Annotations on the text--some revised, some new to this edition--provide verse-by-verse commentary. · The thirty essays from the first edition are thoroughly updated, and there are twenty-four new essays, on topics such as "Mary in Jewish Tradition," "Christology," and "Messianic Judaism." · For Christian readers The Jewish Annotated New Testament offers a window into the first-century world of Judaism from which the New Testament springs. There are explanations of Jewish concepts such as food laws and rabbinic argumentation. It also provides a much-needed corrective to many centuries of Christian misunderstandings of the Jewish religion. · For Jewish readers, this volume provides the chance to encounter the New Testament--a text of vast importance in Western European and American culture--with no religious agenda and with guidance from Jewish experts in theology, history, and Jewish and Christian thought. It also explains Christian practices, such as the Eucharist. The Jewish Annotated New Testament, Second Edition is an essential volume that places the New Testament writings in a context that will enlighten readers of any faith or none.

Book excerpt: System Biology encompasses the knowledge from diverse fields such as Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Computational Biology, Mathematical Biology, etc. not only to address key questions that are not answerable by individual fields alone, but also to help in our understanding of the complexities of biological systems. Whole genome expression studies have provided us the means of studying the expression of thousands of genes under a particular condition and this technique had been widely used to find out the role of key macromolecules that are involved in biological signaling pathways. However, making sense of the underlying complexity is only possible if we interconnect various signaling pathways into human and computer readable network maps. These maps can then be used to classify and study individual components involved in a particular phenomenon. Apart from transcriptomics, several individual gene studies have resulted in adding to our knowledge of key components that are involved in a signaling pathway. It therefore becomes imperative to take into account of these studies also, while constructing our network maps to highlight the interconnectedness of the entire signaling pathways and the role of that particular individual protein in the pathway. This collection of articles will contain a collection of pioneering work done by scientists working in regulatory signaling networks and the use of large scale gene expression and omics data. The distinctive features of this book would be: Act a single source of information to understand the various components of different signaling network (roadmap of biochemical pathways, the nature of a molecule of interest in a particular pathway, etc.), Serve as a platform to highlight the key findings in this highly volatile and evolving field, and Provide answers to various techniques both related to microarray and cell signaling to the readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the concepts of mobility data and data-driven urban traffic monitoring. A typical framework of mobility data-based urban traffic monitoring is also presented, and it describes the processes of mobility data collection, data processing, traffic modelling, and some practical issues of applying the models for urban traffic monitoring. This book presents three novel mobility data-driven urban traffic monitoring approaches. First, to attack the challenge of mobility data sparsity, the authors propose a compressive sensing-based urban traffic monitoring approach. This solution mines the traffic correlation at the road network scale and exploits the compressive sensing theory to recover traffic conditions of the whole road network from sparse traffic samplings. Second, the authors have compared the traffic estimation performances between linear and nonlinear traffic correlation models and proposed a dynamical non-linear traffic correlation modelling-based urban traffic monitoring approach. To address the challenge of involved huge computation overheads, the approach adapts the traffic modelling and estimations tasks to Apache Spark, a popular parallel computing framework. Third, in addition to mobility data collected by the public transit systems, the authors present a crowdsensing-based urban traffic monitoring approach. The proposal exploits the lightweight mobility data collected from participatory bus riders to recover traffic statuses through careful data processing and analysis. Last but not the least, the book points out some future research directions, which can further improve the accuracy and efficiency of mobility data-driven urban traffic monitoring at large scale. This book targets researchers, computer scientists, and engineers, who are interested in the research areas of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), urban computing, big data analytic, and Internet of Things (IoT). Advanced level students studying these topics benefit from this book as well.

Book excerpt: CIARP 2003 (8th Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition) was the eighth event in a series of pioneering congresses on pattern recognition in the Latin American c- munity of countries. This year, however, the forum was extended to include worldwide participation. The event has been held in the past in Mexico, Cuba, Brazil and Por- gal; it took place this year in Havana (Cuba). The aim of the congress was to promote and disseminate ongoing research into mathematical methods for pattern recognition, computer vision, image analysis, and speech recognition, as well as the application of these techniques in such diverse areas as robotics, industry, health, entertainment, space exploration, telecommunications, data mining, document analysis, and natural language processing and recognition to name a few. Moreover it was a forum for scienti?c re- arch, experience exchange, the sharing of new knowledge, and establishing contacts to improve cooperation between research groups in pattern recognition, computer vision and related areas. The congress was organized by the Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and P- sics of Cuba (ICIMAF) and the Center for Computing Research (CIC) of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico, and was sponsored by the University of La Salle, - xico, the University of Oriente, Cuba, the Polytechnic Institute “Jose ́ A.

This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As well as highlighting potentially useful applications for network analysis, this volume identifies new targets for mathematical research that promise to provide insights into network systems theory as well as facilitating the cross-fertilization of ideas between sectors. Focusing on financial, security and social aspects of networking, the volume adds to the growing body of evidence showing that network analysis has applications to transportation, communication, health, finance, and social policy more broadly. It provides powerful models for understanding the behavior of complex systems that, in turn, will impact numerous cutting-edge sectors in science and engineering, such as wireless communication, network security, distributed computing and social networking, financial analysis, and cyber warfare. The volume offers an insider’s view of cutting-edge research in network systems, including methodologies with immense potential for interdisciplinary application. The contributors have all presented material at a series of workshops organized on behalf of Canada’s MITACS initiative, which funds projects and study grants in ‘mathematics for information technology and complex systems’. These proceedings include papers from workshops on financial networks, network security and cryptography, and social networks. MITACS has shown that the partly ghettoized nature of network systems research has led to duplicated work in discrete fields, and thus this initiative has the potential to save time and accelerate the pace of research in a number of areas of network systems research.
