Book Synopsis The Dynamics of Modulated Wave Trains by : A. Doelman
Download or read book The Dynamics of Modulated Wave Trains written by A. Doelman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors investigate the dynamics of weakly-modulated nonlinear wave trains. For reaction-diffusion systems and for the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, they establish rigorously that slowly varying modulations of wave trains are well approximated by solutions to the Burgers equation over the natural time scale. In addition to the validity of the Burgers equation, they show that the viscous shock profiles in the Burgers equation for the wave number can be found as genuine modulated waves in the underlying reaction-diffusion system. In other words, they establish the existence and stability of waves that are time-periodic in appropriately moving coordinate frames which separate regions in physical space that are occupied by wave trains of different, but almost identical, wave number. The speed of these shocks is determined by the Rankine-Hugoniot condition where the flux is given by the nonlinear dispersion relation of the wave trains. The group velocities of the wave trains in a frame moving with the interface are directed toward the interface. Using pulse-interaction theory, the authors also consider similar shock profiles for wave trains with large wave number, that is, for an infinite sequence of widely separated pulses. The results presented here are applied to the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation and to hydrodynamic stability problems.
Book Synopsis Wave Propagation for Train-induced Vibrations by : Yeong-Bin Yang
Download or read book Wave Propagation for Train-induced Vibrations written by Yeong-Bin Yang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For buildings and factories located near railway or subway lines, the vibrations caused by the moving trains, especially at high speeds, may be annoying to the residents or detrimental to the high-precision production lines. However, there is a lack of simple and efficient tools for dealing with the kind of environmental vibrations, concerning simulation of the radiation of infinite boundaries; irregularities in soils, buildings and wave barriers; and dynamic properties of the moving vehicles. This book is intended to fill such a gap.
Download or read book Holography written by M Francon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holography reviews advances in the field of holography and its various applications in areas such as interferometry, microscopy, and acoustics. Topics range from acoustic holography to image multiplexing, formation of images in holography, and holography by computer. Some experiments based on Gabor's holography are also presented. This book is comprised of five chapters and begins with an overview of the fundamentals of holography, with particular reference to spatial and temporal coherence, diffraction at finite and infinite distances, and filtering of spatial frequencies. The reader is then introduced to the principles and applications of holography, focusing on the geometric optics and aberrations of holograms as well as interferometry and microscopy. The following chapters explore how images are produced and reconstructed using a hologram and explain how to detect the differences between two images. Three main types of synthetic holograms are also considered: binary holograms, holograms with several intensity levels, and the holograms called kinoforms. The last chapter is devoted to optical filtering and pattern recognition. This monograph will be of value to physicists and researchers as well as to those interested in how holography works.
Download or read book Wave Optics written by R. K. Verma and published by Discovery Publishing House. This book was released on 2006 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book Wave Optics provides an international to optics and is mainly intended for under graduate students of science and engineering. This book aim to provide the necessary foundation in wave optics which prepare the students for an intensive study of advanced topics in optics at a later stage. Much of optics requires a good knowledge of mathematics. The inherernt harmony in the theory of co-axial-image forming system is not realised in many texts. In the present text-special care has been taken to emphasis this. Contents: Vibrations and Waves, Propagation of Light Waves, The Electromagnetic Theory of Light, Interference of Light (I), Interference of Light (II), Diffraction of Light (I), Diffraction of Light (II), Coherence, Resolving Power of Optical Instruments.

Book Synopsis The Directional Analysis of Ocean Waves by : Carl M. Bennett
Download or read book The Directional Analysis of Ocean Waves written by Carl M. Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introductory discussion of the mathematics behind the directional analysis of ocean waves is presented. There is sufficient detail for a reader interested in applying the methods; further, the report can serve as an entry into the theory. The presentation is basically tutorial but does require a reasonably advanced mathematical background. Results of a program for the measurement of directional ocean wave bottom pressure spectra are included as an appendix. This second edition makes corrections to the first and adds some details of an iterative directional analysis method. (Author).
Download or read book Ocean Wave Dynamics written by Ian Young and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ocean Wave Dynamics is the most up-to-date book of its kind on the three main processes responsible for the generation and evolution of ocean waves: (i) atmospheric input from the wind, (ii) wave breaking and (iii) nonlinear interactions.Ocean waves are important for many reasons. They are the major environmental impact on in the design of coastal or offshore structures. Ocean waves are also fundamental to the processes of coastal flooding and beach erosion. They will play a major role in storm related coastal flooding which will rise in frequency as a result of sea level rise. Ocean waves are also an important part of the coupled ocean-atmosphere system. They determine the roughness of the ocean surface and hence have an impact on winds, fluxes of energy, gases and heat to the ocean and even the stability of ice sheets.Containing the latest research on ocean waves, it is a valuable resource for an overview of knowledge in this important field.Related Link(s)
